Mr. Rickey Louis Peek

MR. RICKEY LOUIS PEEK, age 61, of Sizemore Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on December 4, 1952, a daughter of the late Billie Brewster Peek. He was a member of Springcreek Baptist Church, and was retired from the finishing department of Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Peek was an avid music lover, singing and playing in numerous bands for most of his life. He was preceded in death by step father, the late Robert Stancil. Surviving are wife-Patsy Peek; step mother-Linda Stancil; son-David (Sherri) Peek of Calhoun; grandson-Brett Peek; sisters-Darlene Henderson of Ft. Payne, AL., Jan (Randy) Prince and Lynn (Steve) Evans all of Summerville, Gayle (Mark) Waycaster of Calhoun; brother-Michael (Cathy) Stancil of Adairsville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 2nd, at 3:00 P. M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. George Floyd Dawson

MR. GEORGE FLOYD DAWSON, age 80, of Gore-Subligna Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday at his residence. Born in Gore Community on July 4, 1933, was a son of the late Frank Jennings and Frances Elizabeth Floyd Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a well know cattle farmer and logger, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are His wife, Betty Dawson; daughter and spouse, Kay and Lawrence Broome of Summerville; grandson, John (Becky) Broome; granddaughter, Laura (C.J.) Cady; sisters-Frankie (Harold) Gordon of Gore and Jan (Harold) Ragland of Lyerly; Gene Dawson, Joe (Mary Frances) Dawson of Gore; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 3rd) at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Betty Diane Leonard

MRS. BETTY DIANE LEONARD, age 58, of Shinbone Valley Road-Menlo, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Trion, Georgia, She was a daughter of the late John C. Bandy and Betty June Green Bandy Pope who survives. She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church and employed in the knitting department of Best Mfg. Company. Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by a brother, the late John Duel Bandy. Surviving are husband-Jimmy Leonard; mother and step father-Betty and Wayne Pope of Menlo; daughter-Connie Geimer of Centre, AL.; son-Jams Michael Leonard of Menlo; special friend-Becky Gable; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Mr. Rufus Dodson Hickman Jr.

MR. RUFUS DODSON HICKMAN, JR., age 83, of Highland Avenue, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Black Oak, Arkansas on May 30, 1930, a son of the late Rufus Dodson Hickman, Sr. and Clare Anita Robertson Hickman. He was retired from Bi Lo Grocery Store and was preceded in death by his wife the late Vivian Stevens Hickman and step son-the late Richard Clyde Ayo. Surviving are daughters-Bonnie Scarlett and Nina Fitzpatrick both of Fl.; sons-Rufus Dodson Hickman, Ill and James Hickman both of Summerville, Russell Hickman of Fl., Dennis of La., and Stewart Hayes of Miss.; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews also survive. In accordance with Mr. Hickman’s wishes, the Body was cremated. Earle Rainwater Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Helen C. Hudson

MRS. HELEN C. HUDSON, age 89, of Rome, Georgia former longtime resident of Summerville, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014, in a Rome health care. She was born on December 16, 1924 to the late William Richard and Rosa Dell Estes Chappelear. Mrs. Hudson was a member and former pianist, for many years, of Summerville First Baptist Church; she was retired from the Georgia Rug Mill and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Wilburn Hudson, sisters, the late Patricia Ann Holliday and Mary Dell Welch, and brother, the late Henry Chappelear. Surviving are daughter-Cheryl Allen of Rome; sons-Kelly Hudson of Cedar Bluff, AL., and Richard Hudson of California; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 11:30 A.M. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Rev. Doyle Waters officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers will be Family members; Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Williams, O.G. Moorehead, Jim Meredith, Harmon Petitt, Billy Petitt, and Jim Parker. Mr. Robert Moser

MR. ROBERT MOSER, age 85, of Back Penn Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, (January 21, 2014) evening in a Rome hospital. A native of Chicago, Illinois, He was born on March 4, 1928 a son of the late Rudolph and Mary Moser. Mr. Moser served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during Korea, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Bessie M. Raines Moser, and brothers, the late Rudolph Moser and the late Raymond Moser. Surviving are sister-in-law- Alice Moser of McHenry, Ill; several Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25th, at 3 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Art Graves officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. MR. DAN YOUNG, age 79, (known as Deputy Dan) of Rose Circle, Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday evening at his residence. Born in Valley Head, AL. on November 27, 1934, He was a son of the late Floyd and Leona Clark Young. Mr. Young was a retired deputy from the Chattooga County Sherriff’s office. He was preceded in death by first wife, the late Annie Harris Young, siblings, the late Billy Young, the late Lorene Moore, the late Margaret Faye Young, and the late Charlotte Young. Survivors include wife-Barbara E. Young; daughter-Angie Williamson of Trion; son-Allen Young of Douglasville; Step-children- Cindy Romines of Fort Oglethorpe; Sheryl Campbell of Summerville, Jan Allen and Robbie Allen both of Lyerly; sisters-Nancy Wilson, Frances Cordle both of Summerville, and Linda Pledger of Orlando, Fl.; brothers-Rev. Richie (Bo) Young of Jamaica and Budd Young of Summerville; nine grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. MRS. AUDREY ELLEN “SUSIE” CARROLL, age 71, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in a Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia health care. Born in LaFayette, Georgia, on March 3, 1942, She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Cora Lee Day Brown. She was retired maintenance supervisor for the LaFayette Housing Authority and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Larry Carroll. Born in Chattooga County, Georgia on May 1, 1952, He was a son of the late Horace Edward Howard and Betty Ruth McCollum Howard who survives. Mr. Howard was retired from the packing department of Mt. Vernon Mills; he had also previously worked with Bigelow-Sanford and later Mohawk Mills. MR. JOE PLESS, age 79, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014, in a Rome, Georgia hospital. Born in Menlo, Georgia on October 5, 1934, He was a son of the late Earnest Lee and Kate Alexander Pless. Mr. Pless was a member of Cloudland Presbyterian Church, served in the U. S. Marine Corps for ten years, and along with His wife, Sara, originated the Lookout Restaurant in Cloudland, Georgia. Surviving are His wife, Sara Kling Pless; daughter-Julia Pless Houston of Summerville; son-John Pless of Cloudland; grandchildren-Paul Battles, Jessica Green, and Cody Pless; great grandchildren-Taj Battles, Ivan Battles, and Zackery Green; several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8th, at 1:00 P.M. from the Cloudland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Todd Threlkeld officiating, eulogy by Mr.- Robert Houston. MRS. SUE ELLEN KELLETT, ager 66, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014, in a Rome, Georgia hospital. She was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 6, 1947 and was a daughter of the late Roy Gross and Ellen Harbour Gross Harvey, who survives. Mrs. Kellett was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her brother, the late Sonny Gross. Surviving are Her husband, Ricky Kellett; Mother, Ellen Harbrour Harvey of Rome; daughters, Suzanne Woods of Trion, Kristy Krueger of Summerville, and Cathy Stallings of North Pole, Alaska; son, Lee Roy Kellett, III of Summerville; sister, Peggy Williams of Rome; grandchildren, Amanda Blair, Jarrod Stallings, Joshua Kellett, Anna Krueger, Jacob Stallings, Kyle Krueger, and Justin Stallings; several Nieces and Nephews. MR. HERMAN A. YORK, age 78, of York Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday at his residence. A native Chattooga Countian, He was born to the late Archie Dallas (Buddy) and Zella Lucille Maples York on April 4, 1935. Mr. York was Baptist by Faith and was retired from Ford Motor Company, Atlanta and Riegel Textile Corporation. Preceding Him in death was a son, the late Michael Arthur York and a sister, the late Mary Frances Dillon. Surviving are daughter and spouse-Roseanne and Bob Floyd of Rossville; sisters and spouses-Betty Sue Hayes of Summerville, Joyce Irene Moore of LaFayette, Wanda Paulette and Andy Long of Ridle, and Hazel and Doug Mattox of Calhoun; brothers and spouse-John Wayne and Jane York of Summerville and Raymond Dallas York of Lithonia; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews; special friends-Jackie McClung and Family, also survive. MRS. ANNIE LEE SCOGGINS HALE, age 91, of Summerville, GA. passed away Monday Nov. 18, 2013, at her residence. Mrs. Hale was born in Durant, Oklahoma on March 15, 1922, a daughter of the late Franklin and Pearl Mae West Scoggins. She was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired from the sewing department of Lyerly Glove Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Hale, sisters- Mary Scoggins, Ida Barton and Alma Abernathy. Surviving are Daughters and Sons-in-law- Joyce and Bob McGraw of Summerville/Gore Community, Frances Prince of Cloudland, Sally and Wayne Hardin of Rock Spring, GA, Jerry & Terry Taylor of Rainsville, AL. and Nancy and Steve Hickey of Sarasota, FL. REV. WALTER LEE MORGAN, age 81, of Piedmont Avenue, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013, in a Rome hospital. He was Pastor of New Faith Tabernacle for the last 9 years and was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on February 28, 1932, a son of the late General Forest Morgan and Mary Ellen Dooley Morgan. Rev. Morgan was preceded in death by a sister, the late Essie Mae Hayes, and two brothers, the late Gene Morgan and the late Harvey Morgan. Surviving are wife-Nell Morgan; daughters and sons-in-law-Cheryl Jenise and Donald R. Thedford, Jr. and Janice Lynn and Randy Gene Jennings all of Summerville; son and daughter-in-law Rickey Michael and Brenda Faye Morgan of Cedar Bluff, Al.; Grand Daughters and Grand sons-in-law- Stacy Lee and Jeffery Scott Kirby, Amy Lynn and Jeremie Dexter Wallin and Tiffany Nicole Jennings. Mrs. Clara Bohanon

MRS. CLARA BOHANON, age 98, of Bittings Avenue, Summerville, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013, evening in the local nursing home. She was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on April 25, 1915, a daughter of the late Hugh R. and Ella Maude Anderson Riley. She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class of the Church; was retired from the weaving department of the former Summerville Cotton Mill. Mrs. Bohanon was preceded in death by her husband, the late Gordon Lee Bohanon, to whom she was married on February 17, 1936. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law-Hugh and Mary Bohanon of Trion; grandsons-Tommy and Nida Bohanon of Katie, Texas and Waymon and Salley Bohanon of Summerville; sister-Sara John Durham of Trion; three Great Grandchildren, two Great Great Grandchildren, several Nieces, and Nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery, with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Mr. Otto Marshall Johnson

MR. OTTO MARSHALL JOHNSON, age 86, of Butler Dairy Road-Summerville, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013, evening at his residence. A native of Dalton, Georgia, He was born on December 5, 1926, to the late Ira and Rose Nell Autry Johnson. Mr. Johnson graduated from LaFayette High School and attended the University of Georgia graduating in 1954; he was a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving during Korea, in the medical corps. After service to His country returned to Chattanooga where he was successful in the business community, retiring in 2011. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister, the late Hazel Christine Coleman and nephew, the late Ross Allen Deck, I. Surviving are His niece, Martricia Deck of Summerville; nephews, Robert Kenneth Ivester and Ross Allen Deck, II both of Trion. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 9th, at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, in Rome, Georgia. Mrs. Rosemary McWhorter James

MRS. ROSEMARY McWHORTER JAMES, age 89, of Virginia Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a local health care. Affectionately known as “Miss RoseMary”, she was born in Henrietta, N.C. to the late Grady and Lola Belle Bridges Morehead on November 9, 1923. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and taught school in Trion Elementary and Summerville Elementary Schools, and owned and operated Her own kindergarten for a number of years. Mrs. James was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a board member of Chattooga Library; she was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her first husband, the late Joseph Winston McWhorter and latter, husband the late Willis Samuel James, brothers-the late Jim Morehead, Joe Morehead, and Bill Morehead. Surviving are sons-Joseph Winston (Wink) McWhorter, Jr. of Athens, Robert McWhorter of Summerville, and Hill (Jenny) McWhorter, Sr. of Hoover, AL.; brother-O. G. MR. AUSTIN WARREN, JR., age 83, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday evening in a Rome hospital following an extended illness. He was born on January 24, 1930, a son of the late Austin Warren, Sr. and Tennie Henry Warren. Mr. Warren was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church, a Veteran of Korea serving in the U.S. Army, His working life was in maintenance departments of the Georgia Rug Mill and the City of Summerville. He was preceded in death by wife the late Margaret Alred Easter Warren, a son the late Jack Austin Warren, and sister the Late Bonnie Allmon. Mr. Warren was a member of Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM and the Chattooga Shrine Club. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law-Denise and Rick Wyatt; step daughter-Paula Easter; grandson-Stacy Wyatt; great grandson-Will Wyatt; step grandson-Paul Chamlee; step great grandchildren-Addison Belle Chamlee, Avi Rose Chamlee, Jaci Elizabeth Cleveland, and Emily Alexis Craig; brothers-Robert Warren and Rick Warren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26th, at 5:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery with Dr. Paul Mason officiating and Masonic Rites by Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM; Active Pallbearers members of Chattooga Shrine Club. MR. David DAWSON, age 63, of Gore-Subligna Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013, morning at His residence. A lifetime resident of Gore Community, He was born to the late Frank J. and Frances Elizabeth Floyd Dawson on March 22, 1950. Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Frankie and Harold Gordon of Gore and Jan and Harold Ragland of Lyerly; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Betty Dawson, Gene Dawson, and Joe and Mary Frances Dawson of Gore; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24th, at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active Pallbearers Gary Gordon, Mark Gordon, Rick Hammonds, Greg Shaw, Britt Ragland, Shane Ragland, C.J. MRS. MARGARET H. “PEGGY” SMITH, age 68, of McGraw Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, October 18, 2013, morning in a Rome hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Oswego, N.Y. on February 18, 1945 to the late Vernon C. and Rachel Botty Hultz. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church PCA and retired manager of Maplewood Apartments. She was preceded in death by grandparents-Frank and Mary Donnabella Botty. Surviving are Her husband, to whom she was married for 49 years-Tony J. Smith; sons-Benjamin (Christy) Smith of Summerville and Joe (Wendy) Smith of Birmingham, AL.; granddaughters-Leigha Cannon, Megan Vannatter, Kassie Smith, and Alex Palmour; grandson-Matthew Ashmore; great grandchildren-Braden Henderson, Noah Vannatter, Elijah Burdick, and Shawna Keen; sisters-Connie Kileman of Kissamee, FL., Rebecca Gregory of Birmingham, AL., and Rachael Hultz of Elgin, IL.; brothers-Jeff Hultz and Paul Hultz both of Elgin, IL.; several Nieces and Nephews.
