GILBREATH

 MRS. POLLY GILBREATH, age 84, of Tyler Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in a Rome Hospital.  She was born July 1, 1938 to the late Fred and Esther Roberts Stewart.  Mrs. Gilbreath was a retired beautician, and member of the Summerville First Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Gilbreath, a son, Eddie Lively, a daughter, Kaye Casey, a great granddaughter, Sarah Blalock and a sister, Dot Watkins.

 

Surviving are Son, Mark (Susan) Gilbreath; Grandchildren, Cara (Tony) Blalock, Carla (Bucky) Chisolm, Laura (Ben) Latta, Miles Gilbreath, Michael (Paige) Bradley; Great Grandchildren, Kayleigh Byars, Layton, HarperAnne, and Scout Chisolm, Calleigh Hall, Ty Hall, and Madyln Henderson, Brooks Bradley and Sydney Bradley; Brother Sonny Stewart (Mary Lou Bame).  Several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Peppers officiating, Interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers will be Tony Blalock, Miles Gilbreath, Billy Petitt, Donny Hayes, Gary Hardeman and Michael Poole.  Honorary Pallbearers will be “THE GIRLS.”  The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

MRS. MARSHA RAY WILSON, age 76 of Rose Circle Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at her residence surrounded by family, friends and her best friend Juanita Nelson and daughter Cathy Coudsy. Mrs. Wilson was born in Chicago, Illinois, February 9, 1946, daughter to the late Eddie and Evelyn Schecter. She was a retired Poker dealer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Wilson, son, Adam Wilson, brother, Allan Schecter, and a grandson, Alex Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her Sons and daughters in law, Heath and Heather Wilson, Shane Wilson & Dianna Campbell, Max Wilson, II; Daughters, Leighann Escoto - Curtiss, Beverly Schafer and Ashley Peace; Sister, Benita Vogal; Godson, Devin Campbell, Sons, Michael Hancock, Kevin Bentley and Patrick Bentley; Grandchildren, Dakota Campbell, Kevin Wilson (Monkey Meat), Harley Wilson, Erica and Richard Stevenson, Jenn Wilson, Destinee Wilson, Ashleigh Wilson, Elleigh Wilson, Collin Curtiss, Cassie Hinton, Donovan and Davin Wilson, Ember and Amy Wilson, Jedd Teems, Opal Battles, Taj Battles, Ivan Battles, Zach and Heather Black; Several great grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews also survive.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Smith and Phillip Minter officiating. The family will visit from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

GAINES

MRS. MARTHA BARTLETT GAINES, age 86, of Back Berryton Road, entered her Heavenly home Monday, February 6, 2023 at her residence. She was born August 12, 1936 in Chattoogaville, Georgia, daughter of the late Ellon Carr Bartlett and James Alfred Bartlett. She was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church. After raising her children, she was employed by Century Glove Company and later by Mount Vernon Mills before her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Joe B. Gaines whom she married July 2, 1953; brothers, Wesley, Roland, Gordon, Bill, James, and Dennis Bartlett, J.T. and Jim McAteer; sisters, infant, Barbara Lee Bartlett, Winola Brown, Ola Copeland, Lena Mae Nations, Mildred Gilreath, Bell Atkins, Sybil Hayes and Christine Bohannon and also great, great granddaughter, Joselyn Phibbs, and special friend, Helen Dean Reynolds.



Martha loved the Lord. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and always trusted in Him through all her difficulties. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother helping to raise and take care of all her children. She always has Sunday dinner all the way back to the beginning of her marriage when family would come to visit. After retirement, she began quilting, making numerous, all handmade, quilts for all her family. She never believed in being idle, work was the name of the game.

Survivors include her children, James Patrick (Pat) and Karen Gaines and Brenda Gail and Nelson Lee Wilson; grandchildren, Ethan Gaines, Cynthia and Nick Swords, April and Derek Adams; great grandchildren, Dylan and Levi Adams, Kayla, Caitlin, Aleigha and Scottie Satterfield; great, great grandchildren, Lilah Marie Gazaway, Parker Phibbs, and on the way Paxton Phibbs.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 11th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Hutchins, Pastor Harold Helton, and Pastor Jason Lee officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Dylan Adams, Levi Adams, Scottie Satterfield, Ethan Gaines, James Lee Bartlett and Randy Hunter. LOWRANCE


 David Lee Lowrance, age 59 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, unexpectedly. David was born in New Boston, Texas on January 14,1964. He was employed at Shaw Industries, had recently retired from 20-plus years as a truck driver and proudly served in the U.S. Army.

David is preceded in death by his parents Marie Lancaster and Don Lowrance and his brothers Tony Lowrance and Davey Lowrance.

David is survived by his wife Kris Lowrance of Summerville. He is also survived by his children Jeff Lowrance, Michael Lowrance, Bridgette (Caleb) Adelstein; Chassity (Jordan) Fowler; his stepchildren Amber(David)Tapp and Michael Hammond; his brothers Donnie (Savanna) Lowrance; Todd (Heidi) Lowrance; his sisters Amanda (Colby) Smith; Mara Rhinehardt; his uncles Dennis Lowrance; Wilbur(Mary) Lancaster; and Sebastain (Kelly) Attaway. David was blessed with 18 grandchildren       and nine great grandchildren.

David enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially fishing with his father–in–law Don Smith. He was a loving husband, father and loyal friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2p.m. at Rising Fawn Church of God, located at 3425 US Hwy 11 in Rising Fawn, Georgia. All who knew David are welcome to join the family in celebrating his life.

Mr. David Lamar Love, age 80 of Red Oak Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 8, 1942, son of the late William Marion Love and Fannie Avis Lewis Love. Mr. Love was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Viet Nam war, a member of Trion Heights Baptist Church, and a member of various Veteran and community organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kristopher Wallin and siblings, William Marion Love, Ruth Coker and Robert Love.

Surviving are his Wife, Vera Nell Love; Children, Colleen Cordle, Vernon Johnson, Robert Johnson; 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren; Siblings, Jenny Tucker, Winston Love, Walter Love, Ben Love; Special Sister-in-law, Margie Love; Special Nephew, Steve Love.

Funeral Services were Saturday, February 4th, at 1:00 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Vernon Johnson and Odell Anderson officiating, Interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were be Kevin Vaughn, Tim Harrison, Andrew Johnson, Mike Love, Stephen Cordle and Bill Tutton. Honorary Pallbearers were Members of American Legion Post #129, members of Mason-McCauley VFW Post #6688, Sons of Legion Squadron #129, the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Trion Heights Baptist Church, and Members of the Chattooga County Wildlife Club. Military Honors were rendered at graveside by the Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Post #5 Honorary Guard. MRS. MARGARET PARKER, age 72, of Campbell Crescent Circle, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday morning, January 30, 2023  in the local nursing home.  A native of Trion, Georgia , she was born to the late Robert G. and Elizabeth Jane Prickett Massey on December 2, 1950.  Mrs. Parker was a member of the United Christian Fellowship and was owner-operator of Parker Screen Printing.

 

            Surviving are her husband, Larry Parker; daughters and spouses, Beth Hamilton (Shannon) and Amanda Coggins (Josh); grandchildren, Brylee Coggins, Lauren Hamilton (Alex), Peyton Hamilton, and Kristen Hamilton; sister, Mary Treadwell (Barry); special friend and roommate, Ann King; several Nieces and Nephews.

 

            Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 2nd, at 6:00 p.m.. from the United Christian Fellowship with Pastor Gary Howell officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m.at the Church.  The family wishes to thank the Staff of Oakview Nursing & Rehab. MRS. E. SUSAN DURHAM, age 70, of L. M. Thomas Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Born in Martinsville, Virginia on November 12, 1952, She was a daughter of the late William and Velva Mills Walker. Mrs. Durham was a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple, was retired Executive Secretary for Bob Harvey Medical Management Firm and Co- Founder of the Tooga Trader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister the late Tammy Boyd and a brother the late Bill Walker.

Surviving are her husband, Bill Durham; 3 sons-Mark William Durham of Jacksonville, Fl., Larry Joe Nash of Summerville, and John William Nash of Florida; sister, Joyce Bennett of Glen St. Mary, Fl.; grandchildren, Megan and Lacey Durham, Bubba Nash, Johnnie Nash all of Jacksonville, FL., Travis, Trey, Dylan, Dalton, and Brooklyn; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

MRS. MARY Z. JACKSON HIGH, age 95, of the Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 22, 2023, at her home. Mrs. High was born on July 20, 1927 in Chattooga County, the daughter of Brunette Brewer Jackson and Robert Gaines Jackson. She was a 1943 graduate of Lyerly High School. She retired from the Chattooga County Board of Education in 1992, serving as secretary and bookkeeper for 26 years. Mary married Weyman Wright High in 1947; they were married for 67 years. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church; she was currently a member of Summerville First United Methodist Church. Other than Her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Robertine Jackson of McDonough, Georgia.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and William Crouch; three granddaughters and spouses; , Lindsey and Lance Brown, Whitney and Nate Rupp, and Christine Crouch; three great grandsons, Zeke Brown, Andrew Rupp, and Logan Brown.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Gore Community, with Rev. J. Wesley Privette officiating. Active Pallbearers William Crouch, Lance Brown, Nate Rupp, and Zeke Brown. There will be no visitation. MRS. FAYE JOLENE LAWSON BROWN, age 90, of Jason Drive, Trion, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at her residence. A native of Sylvania, Alabama, She was born to the late William H. Lawson and the late Eva Ferguson Roberts on October 7, 1932. Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of the Trion First Baptist Church, loved quilting, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed the Silver Sneakers. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by siblings, Bonnie Davenport and B. W. (Jack) Brown and step father, the late M. O. Roberts.

Surviving are daughters, Debbie Fowler and Patricia (Patrick) Baldwin; sons, Marvin (Rose) Brown and Anthony Brown; half sisters, Katie Golden, Joyce Lancaster, and Pam Jackson; grandchildren, Richard (Amber) Ramirez, Caressa (Stephen) Price, Chris Ramirez, Jonathan Ramirez, Dylan S. Baldwin, and Cassidy S. Baldwin, MD; sever Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. JO ANN BLACKMON, age 71, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, Mrs. Blackmon was born on December 22, 1951, to the late J. C. and Madelene Ledford Edgeworth. She attended the United by Faith Baptist Church and was retired from Buster Brown, Inc. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Larry Sanford Blackmon, and siblings Betty Siffles, J. T. Edgeworth, Paul Edgeworth, and Norman Edgeworth.

Surviving are son, Michael (Alison) Blackmon; grandchildren, Christian Blackmon, Haven Blackmon, Summer Vaughn, Alicia McGill, Jamison Johnston, Jordan Johnston; several Great Grandchildren; siblings, Lois Reed, Johnny Edgeworth, Tony Edgeworth, and Alvin Edgeworth; several Nieces and Nephews.

Ray Earl Lee, age 84, Summerville, Ga died January 13, at Atrium Health Floyd. Mr Lee was born November 23, 1938, in Summerville, Ga, son of the late Jess and Della Wooten Lee. He was preceded in death by brothers James Lee and Melvin Lee, and a sister Ruby Lee. He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills where he worked for more than 35 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Latricia Pettyjohn Lee, daughter Lori Lee Sanders (Brian), son Kevin Ray Lee (Marina), grandchildren Bryn Lee, Jacob Lee (Sunny), Patric Sanders and Meredith Sanders and great grandson Beckham Ray Lee, brothers Fay Lee and Billy Joe Lee and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2 PM at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 until the service hour with Rev. Robert Pettyjohn and Dr. Gene Greer officiating. Entombment will be at Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

KEENE

Josephine Knapp Keene, 96, of Lafayette Georgia, wife of the late John Hayes Keene, died Monday, January 2, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Keene was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut on August 4, 1926. She was the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Coburn) Knapp. She was one of 10 children and grew up on the Knapp Family homestead on Florida Hill Road. Mrs. Keene attended Ridgefield High School. She is retired from the State of Florida as a teacher's aid for the special needs classes to whom she shared her love, compassion and understanding.

Mrs. Keene is survived by her Sons, Jeffrey Keene and his wife Anna, Joel Keene and his wife Cynthia; her Daughter, Joy Hendricks and her husband Zen. Grandsons, Justin Quillen and his wife Amy, Joe Stephenson and his wife Jackie, Drew Hendricks and his wife Brandi, William Hendricks, John A. Keene and his wife Morghan.; Granddaughters, Shannon Chase and her husband Erick, Samantha Braun and her husband Kevin, Jennifer Keene, Charlotte Merwin and her husband Scott, Darla Cox and her husband Ottis, Jessica Quillen, Carla Wallin and her husband Josh, Jodie Vergara and her husband Albert.; One sister, Marjorie Evans; two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Knapp and Patti Knapp; Great grandchildren, Jesse, Liv, Kaja, Josephine, Timmy, Layla, Skylar, Tessa, Nicole, Alex, Zachary, Freddy, April, Mia, and Andrew.

In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years, Mrs. Keene was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph "Sonny" Knapp, Richard "Bob" Knapp, Edward "Teddy" Knapp, Charles "Mickey" Knapp and four sisters, Florence Hayes, Helen "Tiny" Spadaccino, Dorothy Jacobellis, and Mildred "Plum" Molinaro.

Mrs. Keene, "Franny", was the most amazing mother and grandmother. She put others before herself and helped out in any way she could. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her family. She was such a vital part of our lives it is inconceivable to imagine life without her. She will be missed terribly.

The Keene Family would like to thank the staff of Oakview Rest and Rehab for their loving care and concern for Josephine while she was with them.

Memorial service and interment will be at a later date in Connecticut.

MS. BECKY HOGLUND, age 70, of Trion, Georgia, passed away at her residence, on January 6, 2022, to walk the streets of gold with the angels. She was born in Abilene, Texas on November 13, 1952, a daughter of the late Grant and Naomi Tedder Davison.

Surviving are children, Stefan Hoglund, Heather Breese, Matt Breese, and Wendy Hoglund; grandchildren, Cody Keen, Carly Wigley, and Sydnie Hoglund; great grandchildren, Sophia Keen, Raelyn Keen, and Harrison White; sister, Gartrelle Warnock; borther, Rick Davison; aunt, Pat Stanley.

A Memorial service will be Saturday, January 14th, at 11:30 A.M. from the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ with Ministers Hugh Glaze and Tommy O’Kelley officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Jared Wigley, Tanner White, Alan Baggett, Jim Warnock, Pat Tumisky, and Charles Tumisky. MRS. LINDA DARLENE BROOME, age 73, of East Armuchee Road-LaFayette, Georgia passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, in a Dalton hospital. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia she was born May 23, 1949 to the late Arthur Teems, Jr. and Isadora Brown Teems. Mrs. Broome was a member of the East Armuchee Baptist Church, a para professional for Whitfield County School system and a former financial officer for Shaw Industries.

Surviving are Her husband, Jack Broome; daughters, Crystal Jackson, Celeste Richards, and Cauprice Clance; grandchildren, Haven Clance, Atticus Clance, and Landry Richards; brother, Steve Teems; several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12th, at 2:00 p.m. from the East Armuchee Baptist Church with Rev. David Pruett and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating, interment in the East Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery. SILVERS

 Dr. Gary Eugene Silvers, age 58 of Rome, Ga passed away Thursday January 5, 2023, in a Rome hospital. He was born on March 14, 1964, in Summerville, Ga to the late Thomas Alfred Silvers and Kathleen Corbin Silvers who survives.

Dr. Silvers was raised in Summerville, Georgia and was a lifelong member at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Silvers lived a very fulfilling and interesting life. Throughout his life, his talents, energy and belief in Jesus Christ allowed him to travel many paths. He spent many years working in the health care industry as well as teaching at Georgia Highlands College in Dallas, Georgia.

He believed in being a life long learner and encouraged that philosophy of those who were close to him. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Shorter College. To encourage his children that nothing is impossible, he furthered his education by completing his doctorate in leadership from Tennessee Temple University. He kept Jesus Christ first throughout his journey and was the epitome of the phrase “wise men seek Him.” He decided to attend seminary and obtained an additional master’s degree from Liberty University. He utilized his skills best through music, lectures, testimonies, writings, humor and through his daily existence.

MR. DALE BAIN, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia passed away at his residence Thursday, January 5, 2023. He was born in Rome, Georgia on November 2, 1953, son of the late Russell Bain and Haynie Sitton Bain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Benny Bain, David Bain, Charles Bain and sisters, Janet Richardson and Debra Scott. He was employed as a Hyster Driver with Mohawk Industries for a number of years and baptist by faith.

Surviving are his Wife, Wanda Tinney Bain; Sons, Chris Bain and Kevin Bain; Granddaughter, Adalee Bain and a brother, Robert Bain.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7th, at 2:30 p.m. from the Graveside with Rev. Harold Helton and Rev. Mike Odom officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery. She was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 8, 1952, daughter of Wallace Busby and Evelyn Carpenter Busby. Mrs. Carroll was employed by Mohawk Industries in the Extrusion Department and was Baptist by faith.

Surviving are her husband, James Carroll; Daughter, Alicia (Reuben) Brock; Sons, Jason (Angie) Carroll and Clay (Mamie) Carroll; Bother, Earl Busby; Seven Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.

LINDA EARL CALDWELL JONES age 77 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in a Rome Hospital. She was born in Summerville, Georgia, February 12, 1945, daughter to the late Charlie and Irene Caldwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Melvin Timmons, sisters, the late Pamala Jean Caldwell and Barbara Beatrice Caldwell; brothers, the late Charles Leroy Caldwell and George Dewayne Caldwell, and brothers-in-law, the late Johnny Tapp and Danny Kilgore. Linda was a Homemaker and a member of the Harrell Street Church of God.

Surviving are brothers, Ray (Denane) Caldwell and Jerry Caldwell, Rachael (Danny) Kilgore, Doris (Johnny) Tapp.

She was born in Rome, Georgia on December 25, 1963 to the late Helen Marie Ingram Tucker and Frank Joe Evans, who survives. Mrs. Blackmon was a homemaker and member of Harrell Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by husband the late Gregory Scott Blackmon.

Surviving are daughters, Deanna (Josh) Hines and Amber Cothran; sons Stephen Little and Michael Lyons; Father, Frank Joe Evans; sister, Tanja Evans; step siblings, Carl & Mitzi Raymond, Natalie and Gerry Padovano. DEWAYNE NEAL FULTON,SR., age 69 Trion, Georgia, passed away December 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Trion, Georgia on December 7, 1953 son to the late Clyde Fulton and Bertha Croy Fulton. He was a Chemical Operator with Omni Nova Solutions, he served in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by a brother Clem Fulton, adopted parents, Jim and Bessie Allen.

MR. LEWIS WESLEY STRANGE, age 72, of Sand Pit Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away December 28, 2022, at the residence. He was born in Chattooga County on June 15, 1950, to the late Raymond and Emma Maxine Helton Strange. Known as “Louie The Liberal”, He graduated from Chattooga High School in 1969 and Georgia State University in 1974, was a Veteran of Viet Nam serving in the U. S. Army Military Police. Mr. Strange was a retired Businessman and was preceded in death by brothers, the late Ricky Charles Strange, John Joseph Strange, and Marty Ray Strange.

Surviving are daughter, Raquel Lea Pace; grandchildren, Laura Gowan, Jimmy Gowan, and Jesse Gowan; sisters, Patty (Paul) Brison and Sally (Bev) Strange; brother, Bobby Strange; Five Nieces and Four Nephews also survive.

He was a member of United by Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by grandparents, Morgan Laney and Beverly Jackson and also great grandparents, Annalee and Marvin Dotson.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Silvers, and a granddaughter, Jaden Mitchell. Mr. Silvers was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

MR. GREG ECHOLS, age 61, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at his residence, following an extended illness. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, he was born on February 4, 1961, to the late John B. Echols, Jr. and Betty Morrison Bagley who survives. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by step mother, Pam Tauzer-Echols. Mr. Echols was Fire Chief for ten years and served a total of 34 years with the Summerville Fire Department, was Owner/Operator of Echols Appliance, and a member of Summerville First United Methodist Church.

MRS. LINDA RUTH REECE, age 81, of Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday afternoon, November 18, 2022, in a Rome hospital, following a sudden illness. She was born on March 6, 1941 in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Wayne Howard and Verna Viola Fannin Blake. Linda was an exceptional business woman, having started a variety of successful businesses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert Lee “Sonny” Reece on December 2, 2021, sisters, Martha Cooper and Wanda Edwards, and an Infant Brother.

Surviving are daughter, Marty and Jimmy Lowery; son, Robert B. and Susan Reece; grandchildren, Cory (Jessica) Reece and Mackenzie Reece; great grandson, Easton Reece; great granddaughter, Brylee Reece; sister, Janette Chadwick; several Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. FAYE CASH, age 70, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at her residence following an illness. Faye was born on May 15, 1952 in Trion, Georgia to the late Bob and Faye Nell McDowell. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from the District Attorney’s Office after many years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Twin sister and brother-in-law, Kaye and Jimmy Don Angles and brother, the late Bobby McDowell.

McCLESKEY


MR. CARL MANNING McCLESKEY, age 86, passed away on November 15, 2022, at his Georgia residence. He was a well-known sculptor in wildlife subjects. His Work is enjoyed in private and public collections worldwide.

Traveling the creative path as a Blacksmith, Cartoonist, Painter, and Sculptor, Carl was an inspiration to many. He and his wife Betsy spent many rewarding years creating award-winning sculpture in their secluded studio, or at, as Carl liked to say, “The house that lions built” on Lookout Mountain, in Cloudland, Georgia. Their latest collaboration, “Sequoyah” may be seen at the Mentone Arts Center in Mentone, Alabama.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ford and Annabelle Harwell-McCleskey, his sister, Dianne Mayhew, and his son, Eric.

He is survived by his wife Betsy Scott, his son, Brian McCleskey, Brian’s wife, Susan Soto, grandchildren, Chelsey McCleskey, Travis McCleskey and Travis’s wife, Hayley, and one great grandchild, Finn McCleskey.

Father, Grandfather, Husband, friend to many, Carl McCleskey will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Life gathering will take place in the Spring of 2023.

LAURA BEATRICE FLETCHER WOODS, age 81, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at her residence.  She was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 21, 1941, a daughter of the late Elbert Emmett and Ollie Camelia Roberts Fletcher.  Ms. Laura was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, retired from the Weave Shop of Mount Vernon Mills and was preceded in death by a son, the late Barry Joseph Woods on May 3, 2022.

Surviving are Son, Gary and Melanie Woods; Grandchildren, Bryan McWhorter, Haley Woods, Jim Bo Woods, Rose Woods, Lauren Woods, and Matthew Woods; Great Grandchildren, Gage McWhorter and Gunnar McWhorter; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

MRS. JUDY LOU STANSELL JENKINS, age 65, of Long Hollow Road, Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, in a Rome hospital following a brief illness. Judy was born in Menlo, Georgia on December 16, 1956 to the late John and Gussie M. Pettyjohn Stansell. She was a personal care assistant, having helped many people in this area and was active in the Tri State Relic Recovery Association.

Mrs. Spraggins was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church, was retired from Best Manufacturing Company Sewing Department, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles W. Spraggins on December 9, 2014.

A native of Trion, She was born on February 22, 1944 to the late Earl and Bonnie Tidmore Howell. Carolyn was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church and prior to retirement was payroll clerk for Mount Vernon Mills.

Surviving are Her husband, Malcolm Dodd; sons, David and Darlene Lloyd, Wayne Lloyd and Cristy Blair, Barry and Ernie Dodd, Scott and Natalie Dodd; Eleven Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. CARL MARION HYDE, JR., age 89, formerly of Dunwoody, Georgia, moved to Summerville after the passing of his wife, Ann, in 2020; passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, He was born on May 28, 1933 to the late Carl Marion Hyde, Sr. and Ruby Mavity Hyde. Mr. Hyde was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Navy and member of Loganville American Legion Post #0233; later operated his own Insurance Agency for Nationwide Insurance. He was a Master Mason for 60 years and member of Chamblee-Sardis Lodge #444, F & A M, was a Shriner and member of Yaarab Shrine Temple, also a Wall of Fame Member of Yaarab Shrine. Mr. Hyde was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church of Dunwoody and was preceded in death by his wife the late Ann Wigley Hyde. A special THANK YOU, to the staff and residents of Brookdale Senior Living , in Rome, for their love and care during the past seventeen months.

MR. MAX RUSSELL BALDWIN, Sr., age 85, of Dry Valley Church Road Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday August 25th, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 5, 1937, son of the late Archie R. and Annie Ruth Baines Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin retired in 1980 as a Major in the United States Army serving in Vietnam two terms and achieved Master Senior Aviator. He was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, the late Gracie Ruth Hall.

Surviving are his loving Wife, Peggy Shamblin Baldwin; Daughter, Virginia Ruth Baldwin; Sons, Max Russell Baldwin II and Patrick S. Baldwin, M.D.; Grandchildren, Cassidy Shea Baldwin, M.D, Dylan Shamblin Baldwin, Catlin Rae Meredith, Max Edwin Kohl, James Ryan Kohl and Islay Ruth Kohl.

Entombment service will be held on Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, at 2:30 P.M. in Greenhills Memory Garden, with Military honors rendered by American Legion Post #5 Shanklin-Attaway Honor Guard.

MRS. VERNICE HAWKINS STONER, age 98, of Hickory Withe, Tennessee, formerly of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, she was born on January 26, 1924 to the late Roy Z. and Charlsey Elizabeth (Lizzie) Owens Hawkins of Little Sand Mountain, Georgia. Mrs. Stoner was a member of Pennville First Baptist Church and was retired from the packing department of Mount Vernon Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Melvin (PJ) Stoner; siblings the late J. R. Hawkins, J. V. “Shorty” Hawkins, William R. (Bill) Hawkins, Leon Hawkins, Bobby F. Hawkins and Carlton A. Hawkins.

Survivors include Son and daughter-in-law, Dr. M. Tod Stoner (Lynne); Grandchildren, Capt. Benjamin T (Kara) Stoner (USMC), Michael A. Stoner, Christopher N. (Leanne) Stoner, Maxwell J. (Valerie) Stoner, Hannah E. Stoner, Rebekah L. Stoner (Caleb) Coquat, Mary Catherine Stoner, and Daniel N. Stoner; Great Grandsons, Nathaniel Lee Coquat and Jackson Tod Stoner, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8th, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. William Spink, Jr. and Rev. MRS. SUSIE MAE CRAIG EDGEWORTH, age 78, of Susie Lane, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at her residence.  A native of Chattooga County, she was born to the late Dillard and Daisy Hawkins Craig on October 8, 1943.  She was a member of Community Holiness Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the late Rev. Paul L. Edgeworth, daughter, the late Paula Gene Edgeworth, siblings, the late Tommy Craig, Johnny Craig, and Barbara Gene Craig.

 

            Surviving are daughters and spouses, Janice Marmet (Tony Prater), Patricia Corey (Bryon), Debbie Nance (Paul), and Jaycea Edgeworth; grandchildren, John Marmet, Jennifer Marmet, Nicole Corey, Joie Nance, Michael Marmet, Dakota Lively,  Jessie Savory, & Kourtney Marmet; great grandchildren, Memphis Marmet, Caleb “Boo” Bentley, Ryan Marmet, William Marmet, & Brody Marmet; brothers, R. SHIVER

MR. OTIS NELSON SHIVER, age 72, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, at his residence following a brief illness. Nelson was born in Trion, Georgia on November 12, 1949, a son of the late Otis and Marion Nelson Shiver. He was an educator, having taught School and coached girls basketball in the Chattooga County School system, later served as special needs Administrator for the Calhoun School system. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, the late Edna Shiver Helton (Buck) and uncle, the late Charles Nelson (Helen).

Surviving are brother, Farrell Shiver (Key); niece, Sarah Shiver; aunt, Linda Shiver Green (Alan).

In accordance with Mr. Nelson’s wishes, the body was cremated.

TINNEY

MRS. MARLENE TINNEY, age 82, of Allen Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Trion, Georgia on December 21, 1939 to the late Wilburn Cleo and Lucille Mildred Donald Dolquery. Mrs. Tinney was Baptist by Faith and attended the New Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class, directed Bible School several times, and helped with the Christmas play. She also served as pianist at the Frog Pond Baptist Church in earlier years. Mrs. Tinney worked for the Chattooga County Tax office for 35 years, retiring in 2013. She enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, and working puzzles in free time. In addition to Parents was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Sonny Tinney.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda (Dale) Bain and Phyllis (Mike) Odom; grandchildren, Bucky (Carla) Chisolm, Melissa (Paul) Chamlee, Chris Bain, and Kevin Bain; 10 great grandchildren, Lexi Craig, Kayleigh Byars, Jaci Cleveland, Avri Chamlee, Addi Belle Chamlee, Layton Chisolm, Harper Anne Chisolm, Ren Chamlee, Adalee Bain, and Scout Chisolm; several Nieces and Nephews.

Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by grandparents and great grandparents, Charlie & Rachel Laney, Opal Molock, Deborah Fincher, Fred Hunter and Medford Gass, and uncles Walley Laney and Junior Laney.

MRS. BURMAH NELL GREEN, age 77, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, September 3, 2022, at her residence. Mrs. Green was born on April 22, 1945 to the late Roscoe and Derotha Tommie McClung. She was a member and Elder of the Cloudland Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. Burmah enjoyed walking, sewing, crafting and was active in the Cloudland Yoga and Mentone Knitting Class. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a brother, the late Carlton McClung.

Surviving are Her loving husband of 57 years, Phil Green; daughter, Angie Pritchett (Jackie); granddaughter, Lindsey Hankins (Brian); great grandchildren, Reese Willingham, Kristen Hankins, Colton Hankins.

MS. FRANCES M. PALMOUR, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning September 3, 2022,  in the local nursing center.  A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born on February 19, 1930 to the late Samuel Grady Palmour, Sr. and Georgia Alice Weaver Palmour.   Ms. Palmour was a Charter Member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship  and was retired school teacher for the Chattooga County and Trion City School systems.  In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a sister, the late Maxine Palmour.

 

            Surviving are brothers, Grady and Ann Palmour and Jimmy and Judy Palmour; niece, Georgianna Palmour; nephews, Jay and Beth Palmour, Christopher Ward, and Mack Palmour.

 

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery at Trion, with Rev. MRS. ELIZABETH R. WILLIAMSON, age 93, of Espy Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Rustin, LA. on June 14, 1929, to the late Hubert and Irma Thacker Rogers. Mrs. Williamson was a retired Special Needs Nurse; in addition to Parents was preceded in death by her husband, the late Earl Williamson, a son the late William Bruce Taylor, and sister and brother-in-law, the late Trudy and Jim Ellett.

Surviving are Her sons, Russell Keith Taylor and Thomas Michael Taylor; several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, one Niece and one Nephew.

At Mrs. Williamson’s request she was cremated; a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Born in North Carolina on April 25, 1947, She was a daughter of the late Raymond Deforest (Boog) Kirby and Josie Elizabeth Keef (Jo) Kirby. Mrs. White was former Director of Nutrition at Kennestone Hospital and a member of the Teloga Baptist Church. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by Her husband, the late Noland Dewayne White on July 4, 2021, and brothers, the late Steve Kirby and Michael Kirby.

Surviving are son, Jaylen White; sister-Linda (Bill) Powell; special friends and caregivers, Diane Venable, Vickie and Gene Brown, Peggy Mitchell, and Brandon Gurley.

MR. ROGER HUGH DUKE, age 78, of Cave Spring, Georgia passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in a Rome hospital. He was born in Hamilton, Alabama, on January 4, 1944, a son of the late George and Wilma Lois Markham Duke. He was a maintenance operator for a printing operation. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by brothers, the late Harold Duke, Billy Wayne Duke, and Larry Duke.

MRS. DAPHENE J. ALLEN, age 98, of Walnut Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, in the local nursing home. Born on July 31, 1924, was a native of Jackson County, Alabama, and a daughter of the late Reuben and Effie Hilley Johnson. A member of South Summervile Baptist Church, Mrs. Allen worked for Montgomery Knitting Mill and retired from Oakview Nursing and Rehab. Center. In addition to Parents, was preceded in death by husband, the late Loren Howard Allen, son, the late Danny Allen, also three Brothers and two sisters died earlier.

In addition to his Mother, He was preceded in death by grandparents, Anna and B. D. McCauley, Bessie and C. G. Crump.

 MR. LAMAR W. RICH, age 73,  received his wings July 31, 2022 while residing in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was formerly of Trion, Georgia.  He was born in Trion, Georgia on November 29, 1948 to the late William (Bill) and Pearl Potts Rich.  He was retired from the Public Works Department of Chattooga County and as Pastor of Ark Of Faith Church in Lyerly, Georgia.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, the late Dale Lamar Rich, a sister, the late Rosey Rich, and brothers, the late Fred Rich and William Rich.

 

            Surviving are Patricia Rich; daughters, Jerri Hill (Ricky Thomas), Sherry Tapp, Tammy Rich, Melissa Rich, Tammy Pettyjohn, Tonga Money, and Tonya Abernathy; sons, Kenny Matney and David Rich; sisters, Nell Timmons, Patricia Westbrooks, and Dorothy Rich; brother, Charles Rich; Twelve Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews..

She was born in Floyd County, Georgia on October 23, 1965, a daughter to the late Edward Johnston and Margaret Wright Johnston. Mrs. Harris worked as an LPN in a Rome nursing home and was a member of the New Hope South Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Harris; daughters and sons-in-law, Samantha Lynn (Justin G.) Lee; Patricia Amber (Preston) Harris; grandchildren, Evan Lee, Brayden Harris, Zoey Lee, and Aaron Lee; sisters, Brenda Carver and Debbie Tibitts; brother, David Johnston; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

RAY

MRS. EFFIE MAE RAY, age 74, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away July 5, 2022, at Her residence. She was born in LaFayette, Georgia on February 2, 1947, a daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Virginia Turner Crawford. Mrs. Ray was retired from the sewing department of Best Mfg. Company and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Walter Clay (W.C.) Ray on June 15, 2018.

Surviving is a brother, Charles Lee Crawford; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28th, at 11:00 A.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dale Willingham officiating.

DEAN


MR. ALAN B. DEAN, age 67, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at his residence. Born in LaFayette, Georgia on February 12, 1955, He was the son of the late George E. and Billie Watkins Dean. He graduated from Chattooga High School with the Class of 1973. Mr. Dean attended Berry and Floyd Colleges, earning an associate degree as a registered nurse. He achieved a degree of Bachelor of Science degree as a Physician Assistant at the Medical College of Georgia, as well as a Master’s Degree, with honors, in Church Ministries in Counseling from the Church of God Theological Seminary. He later began working on a PhD, but was unable to complete due to sickness. Mr. Dean was involved in Worldwide Medical missions to Africa, South America, and China, which resulted in hundreds of people receiving medical care and treatment and coming to know Jesus. He also had an ongoing singing career with local and out of town quartet groups.

Surviving are daughter, Amy Daniel; son, Jonathan Dean; grandsons, Kaleb Daniel and Jack Cavin; sister & spouse, Karen and Pat Gaines; nephew, Ethan Gaines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D.
Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Lee and Rev. Dr. Ed Judy and officiating, interment in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers Ethan Gaines, Kaleb Daniel, Charlie Logan, III, Steve Graves, Kelvin Ratliff, and David Reynolds; Honorary Pallbearers, Terry Sentell, Mike Floyd, Rodney Anglin, Ron Carver, and Sammy Breeden. DONOVITS

MR. WILLIAM FRANZ “BILL” DONOVITS, SR., age 88, of Mahan Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday morning, July 7, 2022, at his residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born on June 27, 1934 to the late John Donovits, Sr. and Amanda Anne Johnson Donovits. Mr. Donovits was retired welder for General Electric in Rome, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, the late Sylvia Ann Tallent Donovits, and a brother, the late John Donovits, Jr.

Surviving are daughter and spouse, Patricia Donovits Parrottt (Scott); son and spouse, William Franz Donovits, Jr. (Frances); grandchildren, Ava Parrott and Zachary Parrott; special friend, Jane Stokes; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9th, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, interment in Mount Bethel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers, Scott Parrott, Zachery Parrott, Kelly Stokes, Logan Stokes, Jim Donovits, and David Donovits. ASHWORTH

MRS. MARY ALICE ASHWORTH, age 80, of Berryton Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2022, at Her residence. Mrs. Ashworth was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on May 19, 1942 to the late Fred and Willie Mae Bohannon Tucker. She was a member, and for many years was pianist, for the Berryton Baptist Church and was pianist and alto for “The Singing Volunteers” quartet. In addition to Her Parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, the late Harold Fred Tucker.

Surviving are Her husband, Raybern L. Ashworth; daughter and future son-in-law, Alexis Ashworth and Tyler Pickle; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 5th, at 12:30 P.M. from Graveside in Moseley Cemetery with Rev. Steve Speer, Rev. Gary Howell, and Rev. Ed Flener officiating. Active Pallbearers Ed Flener, Daniel Driver, Ryan Driver, Tyler Pickle, Kevin Gorham, and Ronnie Croy; Honorary Pallbearers Pruitt Hospice, Ashley Smith and Kaitlin Gulledge. The Family will receive friends Tuesday at the Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon.

MONEY

MR. BILLY SAM MONEY, age 74, of Ellenburg Subdivision, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022,  afternoon, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born to the late Earl J. and Sybil Chesnut Money on December 31, 1947. Mr. Money was owner/operator of Money Carpet of Summerville, was a Veteran of Viet Nam, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and the D.A.V. Mr. Money was preceded in death by a son, the late Corey Money and a brother, the late Travis Money.

Surviving are His son, Barry Money; granddaughter, Emma Money; sisters, Barbara (Buck) Leath and Betty Ray; brother, Randy (Pat) Money; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Graveside service will be held Friday, June 24th, at 11:00 A.M. from West Hill Cemetery at Trion, with Rev. Barry Brown officiating.

MR. DANIEL SHAWN “BROTHER LOVE” LANEY, age 48, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday morning, June 19, 2022, in a Rome hospital following an illness. Mr. Laney was born in Rome, Georgia on October 18, 1973 to the late Walter Thomas and Pauline Rose McGuire Laney. He was employed at Mount Vernon Mills in the preparation department for the last 30 years.

Surviving are His wife, Debra Ruth Laney; 3 sons, Daniel Laney, Paul Laney, and Thomas Laney; daughter, Chyann Laney; 2 step sons, Timothy (Ashley) Eaton and Cody (Jace) Lemming; Six Grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21st, from 6 until 9 P.M. at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

YOUNG

MRS. MARY JEANETTE YOUNG, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday evening, June 15, 2022, in a Chattanooga health care. She was born in Summervile, Georgia on October 4, 1952, a daughter of the late Benjamin (Doc) Johnson, Sr. and Elizabeth Poovey Johnson. Mary was an active member of Summerville First Baptist Church, where she taught Children’s Sunday School Class and was a faithful member of the Choir. She was retired from the shade room of Mount Vernon Mills, and had a passion for helping anyone, especially disabled and elderly friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by beloved husband, the late David Dwight Young and a brother, the late Benjamin Johnson, Jr.

Surviving are sisters-in-law, Linda Johnson and Nancy Monaghan; cousin, Mable Poovey; special friend, Robert Brown; care givers, Joann Clements and Kathy Cavin.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, June19th, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Her pastor, Dr. Sean Wegener officiating, interment on Monday in Greenhills Memory Garden. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of OakView Nursing & Rehab Center, the Fresenius Kidney Care, Hospice of Chattanooga and AmTran Medical Transport. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
