MR. RADY LAMAR GREEN, age 63, of Smith Rail Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (May 23, 2010) in a Rome hospital. Mr. Green was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on September 14, 1946 to the late Leonard Green and Lois Dover Green who survives. He was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and was owner of Green Construction Company, and was preceded in death by a son the late Joey Green June 15, 1998.

Surviving are wife-Terresa Shipp Green; mother-Lois Green of Summerville; son-Marty Green of Summerville; sisters-Betty Pope of Menlo, Nancy Crider , Charlotte Woody, and Sadie Croy all of Summerville; Grand daughter-Marti Green; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating, interment in Perennial Springs Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Brandon Croy, Brian Johnston, Olen Woody, Dewayne Green, Charlie Crabtree, and Brian Echols; Honorary Pallbearers-Jimmy Strickland, Tobe Morrison, Doyle Jones, Doug Tudor, Greg Hurley, Chris Blanks, and Don Johnston. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday from 6 until 8 P.M.

MRS. JANNIE L. THOMAS McWHORTER, age 89, of West Hall’s Valley Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, in the local nursing home. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late Jerry Elbert and Bessie Stowe Thomas on June 7, 1920. Mrs. McWhorter was a homemaker , member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Homer Dean McWhorter and siblings Martha Horn, Rolland Thomas, Billy Thomas, Gene Thomas, Joel “Dub” Thomas, and Jerry Thomas.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law-Pat Campbell of Trion and Linda and Benny Sprayberry of Summerville; six grandchildren-Lori McClure, Kevin Sprayberry, Alan Campbell, Karen Sprayberry Teague, Kim Sprayberry Nickolson, and Betsy Fisher; 18 Great Grandchildren; sister-Ressie Howell of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24th, at 4:30 P.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery at Trion, Georgia with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Active Pallbearers-Alan Campbell, Curry McClure, Cliff Fisher, Kevin Sprayberry, Jesse Teague, and Chris Nickolson; Honorary Pallbearers-Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehab. Center and Adult Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Visitation will be Monday, May 24th, from 2 until 4 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

MRS. CLAUDIA ALENE McCONKEY, age 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee formerly of Summerville, passed away Sunday (May 16, 2010) in a Chattanooga hospital. A native of Trion, Mrs. McConkey was born to the late Charles Gordon and Dollie Payton Lane. She was a member of South Commerce Church of Christ, retired from Best Mfg. Company in Menlo, and was preceded in death by Her husband the late William L. R. McConkey on October 3, 1995.

Surviving are daughters-Claudia Keeney of Chattanooga and Neena Smith of Harrison, Tenn.; son-Roger McConkey of Rome; sister-Mildred Wilkerson of Trion; brothers-Robert Lane of Summerville and Clarence Lane of Henagar, AL.; four Grandchildren-4 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery (Tuesday May 18) at 4:00 p.m. with Minister Tommy Broome officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Lester, Randy Smith, Lance McConkey and Roger McConkey, Jr.

MRS. BEATRICE BROWN, age 75, of Williams Street-Lyerly, Georgia passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010, at her residence. Born in Floyd County, Georgia on December 21, 1934 she was a daughter of the late James Clifford Mitchell and Mildred Carr Mitchell who survives. She was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and retired from the tufting department of Bigelow-Sanford.

Surviving are husband-Robert J. Brown; mother-Mildred Mitchell of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Stacey & Kristy Brown of Lyerly; grandchildren-Kendra Brown, Daniel Brown, Jeremiah Brown, and Zoie Brown; great grandson-Jax Brown; sisters-Sue Barosay, Ann Broyles, and Naomi Barnes all of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastors Howard Odum, Jimmy Bailey, and Frank McCrickard officiating, interment in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Active Pallbearers-Daniel Brown, Jeremiah Brown, Jeff Bailey, Darren Bailey, Charlie Brown, and Scott Smith; Honorary Pallbearers members of Trinity Baptist Church. The Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 P.M. at the Funeral Home and Wednesday 2 until the hour of service.

MS. SANDRA MITCHELL HENDERSON, age 64, of North Congress Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (May 9, 2010) at her residence. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born in Trion, Georgia on May 25, 1945, to the late J. W. Mitchell and Harriett Cash Mitchell Carroll who survives. Ms. Henderson was Baptist by Faith and a self employed Caregiver.

Surviving are Her daughter-Amanda Rectenwald of Gadsden, AL.; mother-Harriett Carroll of Summerville; sisters-Judy Allmon and Becky Osby both of Summerville; grandchildren-Ethan Rectenwald and Lucas Rectenwald; niece- Julie Keen of Summerville; nephew-Be Jay Osby of Atlanta.

Graveside service Tuesday (May 11th) at 3:00 P.M. in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Mickey Skates and Minister Tommy Broome officiating. Pallbearers – Jacob McGinnis, David Keen, Andy Cash, Preston Cash, Steve Osby, Charles Rectenwald, Larry Allmon and Jackie Cash.

MR. JOHN MELTON OSBY, age 83, of Highland Avenue-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, in the local nursing home. A native of Etowah County, Alabama He was born to the late Walter Richard and Nallie McClung Osby on February 28, 1927. Mr. Osby was retired from the Weaving Department of Mt. Vernon Mills, served in WW II in the U.S. Army PFC, and was preceded in death by His wife the late Gussie Lee Whitt Osby and a daughter the late Janie Kay Osby.

Surviving are daughter-Vickie Osby Austin; son-John S. Osby both of Summerville; 2 grandchildren-Be Jay Osby of Atlanta and Matt Austin of Summerville; special friends-Lawrence Broome and Greg Hughes, who’s acts of kindness and assistance were like sons to Mr. Osby.

MRS. BARBARA S. HEROD, age 68, of Wildlife Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday (May 7, 2010) morning in a Rome hospital. Mrs. Herod was born in Gaylesville, Alabama on October 15, 1941 to the late Cecil Cleveland Battles and Gertha Lee Gilbert Battles who survives. Baptist by Faith She was in retail sales for many years. She was preceded in death by a brother the late Charles Battles.

Surviving are husband-Donnie Herod; mother-Gertha Lee Battles; sons and spouses, Eddie & Robin Herod of Summerville and Richie & Maggie Herod of Rock Springs, GA.; sisters-Frances Boggs of Shadydale, GA., Thelma Day of Lexington, GA., Mary Jo Pate and Katie Lawhorn both of Butler, GA.; brothers-Buddy Battles of Butler, GA. and Larry Battles of Ranger, GA.; grandchildren-Ethan Herod, Dylan Herod, and Hannah Parrish; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Sunday (May 9th) at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Ken Westmoreland officiating; there will be no visitation. The Family request no food and no flowers and suggest contributions to Gideons International or the Church of your choice.
