Mr. John L. Hicks

MR. JOHN LOYD HICKS, age 98, of Summervile, Georgia passed away Sunday evening in a Collinsville, Alabama nursing home.  Born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 9, 1918, a son of the late Grady L. and Bernice Rowan Hicks.   Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard Hicks and Winford C. Hicks. He was Baptist by faith, a proud Veteran of the U. S. Army serving during WW II.  He was a very kind, gentle, and caring Man.  Was loved by all who knew Him; to have had relationship with Him was truly a blessing.

            Surviving are brothers and their wife’s, Sherman (Lois) Hicks, James Rowan (Tommie) Hicks, and Jere (Dora) Hicks; many Nieces and Nephews.

            A graveside ceremony will be held Thursday, June 1st, at 2:00 P.M. at the Summervile Cemetery, officiate will be Chrystal Hicks; pallbearers, Mark Hicks, Jesse Hicks, Mike Hicks, Kyle Hicks, Trent Hicks, and Wendall Hicks.

Mrs. Linda Gorham Burkhalter

MRS. LINDA GORHAM BURKHALTER, age 71, of Hair Lake Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at her residence.  She was born December 9, 1945, a daughter of the late William McKinley and Ida Wisner Gorham.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James H. Burkhalter on December 20, 2016.

            Surviving are her, son & companion, James Grant Burkhalter and Wendy Thomas Ash, Grandchildren, Cayla Burkhalter, Trace Burkhalter, and Evan Burkhalter, Great granddaughter, Ashlynn Burkhalter, Sisters Estelle Johnson and Catherine Hawkins, Brother & sister-in-law, Garvin (Barbara) Gorham, sisters-in-law, Joann Derusha,  and Ruth Alexander; special friends Margaret & Howard Dillard; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2nd, at 11:00 A.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mickey Skates officiating.  Clifford Hughes, James Hughes, Tommy Hughes, Freddy Hughes, David Ledbetter, and Donald Blackwell Visitation will be Friday from 10 A.M. until the hour of service.

Mr. Max Alexander Wilson

MR. MAX ALEXANDER WILSON, age 77, of Rose Circle, Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017,  morning at his residence.  A native of Chattooga County, Mr. Wilson was born to the late Milton Everett and Kay Nell Alexander Wilson on February 14, 1940.  Mr. Wilson was retired over-the-road truck driver and operated his own construction company.

            Surviving are His wife, Marsha Ray Wilson; sons, Max A. Wilson, II, Adam A. Wilson, Shane I. Wilson, Heath E. Wilson, Devin J. Campbell, Micheal Handcock, Kevin Bentley, Anthony Campbell; daughters, Beverly Schafer and Dianna Campbell;  sister-in-law, Benita Vogel; nieces & Nephews, Kristen & Andy Postula, Michael & Megan Vogel, Randy McDonald, Jayme McDonald; grandchildren, Emberly Thompson, Amy Lourenco, Max A. Wilson, III, Jed Teems, Grica & Richard Stevens, Jennifer Wilson, Harley Wilson, Zack Black, Dakota Campbell, Jessica Browning, Kevin Wilson, Daven & Dovovan Wilson, Elleigh Wilson, Scott Scroggins, and Destinee Wilson; daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann Curtis;19 Great Grandchildren.

            Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 1st, at 5:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, Minister Chip Smith will officiate, visitation will be one hour prior to service on Thursday at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kathryn Ophelia Padgett

MRS. KATHRYN OPHELIA “KAT” PADGETT, age 73, of Martin Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday evening in a Rome hospital, following a brief battle with cancer.  Mrs. Padgett was born to the late Dan and Madie Ledford Priest on January 30, 1944.  She was a homemaker and was previously employed at WalMart and Fred’s.  Other than her parents, Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by siblings, Guy Lee McGuire, Essie McGuire, Ollie Dan Priest, Ed Bates, Lorine Arnold and infant brother, Riley Priest.

            Surviving are husband, Charles Padgett; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Padgett and Kathy and Darryl Baker; sister, Inez Blackmon all of Summerville; Nieces, Nephews, and Her beloved cat, Tippy and grand kitties, Fancy and Vinnie.

            Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Ben Hix, Dylan Branch, Kenneth Padgett, Sammy Padgett, Brian McGuire, and Chris Davis.  The Family will receive friends Monday from 1 P.M. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.  The Family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 4 South of Floyd Medical Center for their care and compassion, as well as all the staff at Redmond Family Care, of Trion.
