Mershon, Mr. Roger D.

MR. ROGER D. MERSHON, age 62, of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, in the local nursing home.  He was born on November 13, 1950 and a member of United by Faith Baptist Church.  Mr. Mershon was a Clerk for George’s Quick Service in Summerville and was preceded in death by his brother the late Paulie Mershon.                         

            Surviving are mother-Sybil Mershon of Summerville; aunt-Jessie Penland; several Cousins also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1st, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Brown officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers T. C. Pledger, Doug Colbert, Bob Pledger, Gene Cavin, John McGraw, David Tyson.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.

Anderson, Mr. James "Cotton"

MR. JAMES “COTTON” ANDERSON, Sr., age 74, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, evening in the local nursing home.  Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 23, 1939, He was a son of the late John Vernon and Prissy Lula Nation Anderson.  Mr. Anderson was Church of God by Faith, served in the U. S. Air Force, and was a Welder for Superior Mechanics Service.  Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his first wife the late Glenda Joyce Jones Anderson. 
           
            Surviving are daughters and spouses-Donna and Donnie Goodson, Frances and Randall Worley all of Summerville, and Tammy Young of Chattanooga; sons and daughters-in-law-James, Jr. and Patty Anderson and Leighton and Zeta Anderson all of Trion; half sister-Idella Payne of Rossville; 13 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28th,  at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Norton officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Randall Worley, Christopher Worley, Anthony Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Josh Jones, Jerry Jones, Jeff Jones; Honorary Pallbearers Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  The Family will receive friends Thursday prior to service time at the Funeral Home.

Smith, Ms. Connie Ruth


MS. CONNIE RUTH SMITH, age 51, of Milton Circle-Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, following an extended illness.  Born in Walker County, Georgia on May 14, 1961, she was a daughter of the late Martin Conrad Smith and Florence Lorance Smith who survives.  Ms. Smith was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and retired from B.J.’s Sewing Plant where she was an inspector.

            Surviving are daughter-April Michelle Odom of Summerville; mother-Florence Lorance Smith of Summerville; maternal grandmother-Mary Ruth Johnston of Summerville; sisters-Sherry Lynn Smith, of Rome, Darlene Renee Youngblood of Summerville, and Betty Kathryn White of Summerville; half sister-Brenda Ann Mason of Summerville; half brothers-Stephen Ray Rodgers of Teloga Community, Summerville and Billy Wayne Rodgers of Mountain View Community, Trion; special friend-Kathy Cook; several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral services Sunday, March 24th, at 3:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Mike Odom and Brother Howard Odom officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  At Ms. Smith’s request please omit flowers, contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Nicholson, Mr. Robert C.

MR. ROBERT C. NICHOLSON, age 85, of Shady Lane-Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday morning at his residence.  Born in Ducktown, Tennessee on May 7, 1927,a son of the late James Isaac and Bertha Styles Nicholson, Mr. Nicholson was a member of Pennville Church of Christ and was retired from the bleaching department of Riegel Textile Corporation.

            Surviving are His wife, Frances Broome Nicholson; daughters-Frances Lenora Pence of Trion, Pat Pierce of Rock Springs, Elaine Clements of Trion, Jean Meadows of Douglasville, and Carol Waters of LaFayette; son-Ron Nicholson of Sarasota, FL.; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16th, at 3:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers will be David Saylors, Bob Wesson, Josh Pilcher, David Pence, Nicholas Young, Cody Young, Eddie Britton and Jeff Cooper. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home Saturday from 1:30 PM until the hour of service.

Boole, Mr. Ralph Preston

MR. RALPH PRESTON BOOLE, age 81, of Ft. Payne, Alabama, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013.  A native of Exmore, Virginia, He was born to the late Norman and Annie Chandler Boole on February 21, 1932.  Mr. Boole was a Veteran of Korea, serving in the U. S. Coast Guard, was retired from Pan Am Airlines, and later was corrections officer Sargent, retiring from Hayes State Prison.  He attended the Ruhama Baptist Church in Ft. Payne, Ala. and was preceded in death by His wife the Late Virginia Keller Boole

            Surviving are children-Jeffery Boole of Exmore, VA, Richard Boole of Boise, Idaho, Kerrie & Mike Bowie of Maryville, TN., Frank Parks, Jr. & Connie Aldridge, Stephanie  Dennis & Earl Bramlett all of Summerville; ; grandchildren-Amy & Paul Priest, Allison & Brad McConnell, Brandon Bowie, Jessica & Josh Green, Zack Dennis, and Alleigha Dennis; great grandchildren-Madeline, Sarah, Bethany, & Lainey Priest, Alex & Andrew Rainwater, Gracie & Michael Bowie, Shelby & Jaxan Green; cousin-Gloria & Thomas Hudson of Exmore, VA; 2 Nieces and Nephew.

Morgan, Mr. Waymon Hugh Morgan

MR. WAYMON HUGH MORGAN, age 81, of Raymond Street-Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in a Rome hospital.  Born in Dekalb County, Alabama on May 9, 1931, He was a son of the late John T. and Vera Tommie Morgan.  Mr. Morgan was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church and the Pathway Sunday School Class of the Church.  He was a Veteran of Korea serving in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of V.F.W. Post #6688, American Legion Post #129, and D.A.V. Chapter #49.  Mr. Morgan worked for Georgia Rug Mill for 31 years and ITT Lester, in Rome, for 15 years as a dye cast operator; he was preceded in death by his wife the late Goldie F. Stoker Morgan, sisters-the late Frances Seals and Judy Payne.

            Surviving are his daughter, Karen Cargle of Armuchee; grandchildren-Christopher Cargle and Stephanie Cargle; sister-Delia Ann Morgan Cory of Acworth, Georgia; special friends-Deanna Evett, and Dennis & Melanie Howard; also his chihuahua’s- Co Co and Mia.

            Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden.  Active Pallbearers-Deacons of South Summerville Baptist Church; Honorary Pallbearers-member of the Pathway Sunday School Class.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 P.M.

Kirby, Mrs. Ruby Lee

MRS. RUBY LEE KIRBY, age 97, of Kirby Hollow Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, afternoon.  A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Sam and Etta Mixon Phillips on February 2, 1916.  Mrs. Kirby was Presbyterian by Faith, a Homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late George S. Kirby, children-Sara McArthur, L.M. Phillip Kirby, Jerry Kirby, Donald Kirby.

            Surviving are daughters-Dorothy Haney of Valley Head, AL., Kathryn Gravitt, Pat Kirby, Edith Lunsford all of Summerville, Wanda Langston and Linda Stoner-Fowler both of Rome, and Myra McCary of Gore Community; 32 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, several Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Waydell Howell officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden.  Active Pallbearers-Jay Dee Miller, Shawn McCary, Keith Scoggins, Eric Brock, Jeremy Treadaway, Brad Hatcher, Tracey Carter, and Ray Pettyjohn; Honorary Pallbearers Grandchildren.  The Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
