MONEY

MR. BILLY SAM MONEY, age 74, of Ellenburg Subdivision, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022,  afternoon, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born to the late Earl J. and Sybil Chesnut Money on December 31, 1947. Mr. Money was owner/operator of Money Carpet of Summerville, was a Veteran of Viet Nam, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and the D.A.V. Mr. Money was preceded in death by a son, the late Corey Money and a brother, the late Travis Money.

Surviving are His son, Barry Money; granddaughter, Emma Money; sisters, Barbara (Buck) Leath and Betty Ray; brother, Randy (Pat) Money; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Graveside service will be held Friday, June 24th, at 11:00 A.M. from West Hill Cemetery at Trion, with Rev. Barry Brown officiating.

LANEY


MR. DANIEL SHAWN “BROTHER LOVE” LANEY, age 48, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday morning, June 19, 2022, in a Rome hospital following an illness. Mr. Laney was born in Rome, Georgia on October 18, 1973 to the late Walter Thomas and Pauline Rose McGuire Laney. He was employed at Mount Vernon Mills in the preparation department for the last 30 years.

Surviving are His wife, Debra Ruth Laney; 3 sons, Daniel Laney, Paul Laney, and Thomas Laney; daughter, Chyann Laney; 2 step sons, Timothy (Ashley) Eaton and Cody (Jace) Lemming; Six Grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21st, from 6 until 9 P.M. at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

YOUNG

MRS. MARY JEANETTE YOUNG, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday evening, June 15, 2022, in a Chattanooga health care. She was born in Summervile, Georgia on October 4, 1952, a daughter of the late Benjamin (Doc) Johnson, Sr. and Elizabeth Poovey Johnson. Mary was an active member of Summerville First Baptist Church, where she taught Children’s Sunday School Class and was a faithful member of the Choir. She was retired from the shade room of Mount Vernon Mills, and had a passion for helping anyone, especially disabled and elderly friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by beloved husband, the late David Dwight Young and a brother, the late Benjamin Johnson, Jr.

Surviving are sisters-in-law, Linda Johnson and Nancy Monaghan; cousin, Mable Poovey; special friend, Robert Brown; care givers, Joann Clements and Kathy Cavin.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, June19th, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Her pastor, Dr. Sean Wegener officiating, interment on Monday in Greenhills Memory Garden. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of OakView Nursing & Rehab Center, the Fresenius Kidney Care, Hospice of Chattanooga and AmTran Medical Transport. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

HAYES


Mr. Bobby Eugene Hayes of the Halls Valley Community passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Oakview Health & Rehabilitation. Bobby was the only son of the late Ernest “Bub” Eugene and Willa Mae Davenport Hayes. He was born in Trion Georgia on January 31, 1939. He married Sandra Kay Williams on December 23, 1961 at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army from January 1962 until December1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bobby and his late father operated and owned Hayes Upholstery Shop from 1955 until 1992. Bobby was employed at Mount Vernon Mills from 1992 until his retirement in June 2004. He served as a deacon and elder at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ for many years. He was preceded in death by his late grandparents, Huland Burg and Lula Zenobia Conley Davenport, Geoffrey Clingman and Minnie Mae Evans Hayes and step grandmother Mattie Rhodes Allen Hayes. His loving parents preceded him in death, Ernest “Bud” Eugene Hayes on December 22, 1984 and Willa Mae Davenport Hayes on December 24, 2010.

Surviving are Sandra Kay Williams Hayes of Trion, son and daughter-in-law, Bradley “Brad”

Eugene and Judy Renee Swanson Hayes of Trion, grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Bradley Luke and Randi Harbuck Hayes of Valdosta, Georgia and Jakeb “Jake” Bobby Hayes of Kennesaw, Georgia. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers Hugh Glaze and Robby C. Eversole officiating. Interment to follow in Williams Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Luke Hayes, Jake Hayes, Stephen Williams, Billy Williams, Harold “Cotton” Williams, and Jerry Davenport. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harley Brown (Room C111) and the Staff of Oakview Health & Rehabilitation and Affinis Hospice. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 P.M. at the Funeral Home. WILSON

MRS. NANCY L. WILSON, age 89, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, in a Rome Hospital. A native of Dekalb County, Alabama, she born on February 27, 1933, to the late Floyd Edward and Leona Clark Young. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Midway Baptist Church, retired from the Needling Department of Georgia Rug Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Aubry Wilson, Jr. and daughter, the late Debbie Hawkins.

Surviving are grandson, Mark Storey; great granddaughter, Nikki Hulse; two Great Great Grandchildren; sisters, Frances Cordle and Linda Pledger; several Nieces and Nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 16th, at 2:00 p.m. from the Midway Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Peppers and Rev. Ron Pledger officiating, inurnment in Greenhills Memory Garden.

OWINGS

Ms. Betty Jean Yarbrough Owings, age 88, went home to be with Jesus on June 13, 2022 surrounded by her family. We are rejoicing in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Betty Jean was born on March 31, 1934, daughter of the late Hill Yarbrough and Lucinda Rickett Yarbrough. She married her sweetheart, the late Roy Jackson Owings on December 20, 1953. They were married for 43 wonderful years and made their home in the Gore community. She was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and attended until her health declined. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Julia Nell “Judy” Salmon, and a brother, Johnny Yarbrough.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Owings (Tammy) and Jeff Owings (Lisa), four grandchildren (Julia Park (Jason), Hillary Carpenter (Justin), Haley Brooke Johnson (Andrew), and Sage Owings), a sister, Emily Hill (James) , 5 great- grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews.

Betty Jean loved her family more than anything in the world. She loved nothing more than cooking for them and having everyone together. She loved to spoil her grandchildren with homemade cookies, cakes and candies. Needless to say, she was an excellent cook, and excellent mother, mother-in-law grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Betty retired as Chief Registrar of Chattooga County in November of 2010 after working in that office for 37 years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Brother James Baird officiating. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Jimmy Barron, William Mitchell, Benji Price, Clint Hunter, Danny McGraw, Greg Shaw, Scott Everett, and Sam Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery fund. Donations may be mailed to the care of Pam Hammonds at 204 Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia, 30747.

BEAN


     MRS. JOYCE JEANETTE BEAN, age 88, of Rollins Drive, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 12, 2022, in Rome Health Care. She was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on December 22, 1933, a daughter of the late Grady J. and Hattie Hines Johnson. A member of Midway Baptist Church, She was retired sales clerk for the former Jackson Drug Store of Summerville, and was preceded in death by husbands, the late William T. Bean and the late Raymond Thompson.

Surviving are son and spouse, William David and Doreen Bean; granddaughter and spouse, Kira Bean and James Austin; great granddaughters, Alyssa Kate Austin and Anna James Austin; sisters, Vira Reynolds and Threasa Daughtery; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15th, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Peppers officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Tommy Ezell, Randy Thompson, Steve Henderson, Brandon Henderson, Mark Toles, and Greg Martin. HAWKINS

MRS. AVA CATHERINE HAWKINS, age 87, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Friday afternoon, June 10, 2022, in a Marietta hospital. Mrs. Hawkins was born on November 5, 1934 in Sylvania, Alabama, to the late William McKinley Gorham and Ida Wisner Gorham. She was retired from Best Mfg. Company, sewing department, a member of Menlo First Baptist Church. In addition to Parents, Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert Hugh Hawkins, on February 11, 2014, and siblings Talmadge Gorham, John Dewey Gorham, Bethel Gorham, Ethel Kirby, Linda Burkhalter, and Edna Pursley.

Surviving are daughter and spouse, Kathy and Tim Sims; son and spouse, Michael and Tracy Hawkins; grandsons, James Alexander Sims and Andrew Robert Sims; great grandson, Colton Tanner Sims; sister, Estelle Johnson; brother, Garvin Gorham; special friends, Jensen Brink and Ashlyn Walker; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14th, at 3:30 P.M. from Graveside in Cloudland Presbyterian Cemetery, with Rev. Mickey Skates and Dr. Jeff Alverson officiating. MRS. MARY WHITLEY GRIMES, age 70 of Allen Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2022, in a Rome hospital. She was born July 15, 1951, a daughter of the late T. C. “Bud” Whitley and Mary Beatrice Bailey Whitley. Mrs. Grimes was retired Clerk for the Chattooga County Clerk of Courts office, and a member of the Trion First Baptist Church.

Surviving are Her husband, Tommy Grimes; daughter, Candy Grimes; grandson, Kamdyn Grimes; brother and sister-in-law, Chip and Serena Whitley; nephew, Tyler Whitley; niece, Christa Menkara.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8th, at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Casey Bramlett and Rev. Stanley Smith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. HAYES

MR. JOSEPH MATTHEW (MATT) HAYES, age 43, of White Oak Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his residence. Matt was born in Rome, Georgia on September 21, 1978 to the late James Vernon Hayes and Sandra E. Chandler Grady, who survives. He was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and an information technician. In addition to His Father, was preceded in death by grandparents, Ruth Hayes, and Jo and G. W. Koonce.

Surviving are His mother, Sandra E. Grady (Jeff); daughters, Emily Hayes and Kate Hayes; sister, Jamie Rollins (Ken); paternal grandfather, Vernon Hayes; nieces, Sadie Rollins and Maryn Rollins; numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive.

Memorial service will be held Sunday, June 5th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.
