Mrs. Catherine J. Van Pelt

MRS. CATHERINE J. VAN PELT, age 88, of Summervile, Georgia passed away Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014, in the local nursing home. A Gordon County native, She was born on February 7, 1926 to the late Arch and Arrie Beck Reed. Mrs. Van Pelt was retired from the sewing department of Mars Glove, in LaFayette and was preceded in death by her husbands the late Ray Van Pelt and the late J.C. Miller; a Daughter; sisters, Sallie Reed, Annie Ruth Reed Waddell, and Jettie Benita Lankford, all died earlier.

Surviving are daughter, Commissioner, Kathy Van Pelt Brown of Summerville; Grandson-Greg Brown of Ketchikan, Alaska; other Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Chastain officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mike Van Pelt, Ricky Van Pelt, William Elrod, Jerry Wright, Brandon Gurley, Lann Cordle, Richard White and Randy Dalrimple; Honorary Pallbearers the “Angel” Nurses and CNAs of B Hall of Oak View Nursing Home. The Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Michael McWilliams

MR. MICHAEL McWILLIAMS, age 62, of Haywood Valley Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his residence following an illness. He was born August 30, 1951, a son of the late William L. (Bob) McWilliams and Ruby Lee Scoggins McWilliams who survives. Mr. McWilliams attended the University of Georgia and Georgia State; was employed as a pharmacist with his Dad at Trion Drugs in the early 1970s. Later He worked at J & J Carpet in Dalton and Billy Graham Metals in Subligna area. He was very artistic, especially enjoyed doing Civil War figures, and participated in various Civil War reenactments. Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, the late Joey McWilliams and the late Tim McWilliams.

Surviving are His mother, Ruby McWilliams; sister-in-law, Martha McWilliams; and niece & fiancee, Christa Leeann McWilliams all of Haywood Valley and Chuck Campanelli of Teloga Community.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 8th, at 11:00 A.M. in McWilliams Cemetery with Chaplain Rickey Studdard officiating; Pallbearers, Chuck Campanelli, Lowry Shaw, and Danny Reece. Flowers are excepted or contributions may be made to McWilliams Cemetery c/o Ruth McWilliams, 3074 West Armuchee Road, Summerville, Georgia-30747.

Mr. Hill W. Bohannon

MR. HILL W. BOHANNON, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 3, 2014, in a Rome hospital. A native Chattooga Countian, He was born to the late Samuel and Nellie Underwood Bohannon on May 23, 1922. He received a electrical engineer degree from Georgia Tech and later attending the University of Tennessee and was retired from the U. S. Weather Service. Mr. Bohannon was a combat Veteran of the United States Air Force, B17 Bomber pilot in WW II and Korea, and a prisoner of war during WW II. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Madeline Davis Bohannon and a son the late Roger Bohannon.
Survivors include, son & daughter-in-law, Barry and Denise Bohannon; grandchildren, Rachel & Blake Payne all of Calhoun and Carrie Bohannon of Athens; great grandson, Bo Payne; several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6th, at 4:00 P.M. from graveside in Summerville Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Kelly officiating, Active Pallbearers Gerald McCool, Herb Skelton, Terry Adams, Jon Payne, Leo Lanier, Randy Adnerson, Butch Eleam, and Jim Warnick; Military Honors by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of Rome. The Family will receive friends Saturday, July 5th, from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Bob S. Scott

MR. BOB S. SCOTT, age 76, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Cartersville, Summerville, and Rome, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, evening in a Dalton hospital. A native of Bartow County, Georgia, He was born on March 31, 1938 to the late Oscar Clifford and Iris Estell Ingram Scott. Mr. Scott was Baptist by Faith, served in the U.S. Army, and was retired accountant for Dalton Utilities. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Jacquelin Marie Johnson Scott, to whom he married September 6, 1957; together they enjoyed writing choreography and teaching ballroom dancing since 1989.

Surviving are daughter-Vicki Marie Scott of Dalton; sons & daughter-in-law, Robert Van Scott and Michael & Amy Scott all of Rome; grandchildren-Johnathan Lee Scott, Christopher Michael Scott, and Rebecca Marie Scott.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7th, at 11:00 A.M. from the Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Bret Yaeger officiating with eulogy by His daughter-in-law Amy Scott., interment in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, in Rome. Active Pallbearers Robert Van Scott, Michael Scott, Tracy Rainwater, Clark McCalla, Johnathan Scott, and Brad Treglown. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour, at Temple Baptist Church in Dalton, Georgia.

Mr. William E. "Bill" Cordle

MR. WILLIAM E. “BILL” CORDLE, 82, of North Heights Circle, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 1, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Floyd County, Georgia on April 6, 1932, He was a son of the late Martin Levy and Eula Belle Davis Cordle. Mr. Cordle was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was retired Salesman and truck driver. He was preceded in death by a brother, the late Col. Robert L. Cordle.

Surviving are His wife, Frances Cordle; sisters and brother-in-law, Isabelle and Frank Campbell of Homer, Georgia and Emily Milstead of Rome; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastors’ Ron Pledger, Richey Young, Larry McCoy, Larry Elliott, and Larry Brooks officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers Keith Campbell, David Campbell, Jeff Cordle, Jimmy Young, Jack Young, and Brandon Green; Honorary Pallbearers all former pastors of Midway Baptist Church. The Family will receive friends Thursday, from 12:30 P.M. until the service hour at the Funeral Home.
