Mr. Johnny Duke Edwards

MR. JOHNNY DUKE EDWARDS, age 78, of Dry Valley Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in a Rome hospital following a brief illness.  He was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 7, 1941, a son of the late Duke Hamilton (Water Bill)  and Ella Mae Padgett Edwards.  Mr. Edwards loved fishing and hunting.  He was retired from the City of Summerville after numerous years of service; serving in several capacities including Superintendent of the water and sewer department.  He was a retired volunteer Fireman for the City of Summerville, a member and Deacon of the New Beginnings Baptist Church, member of Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM, and a member of the Chattooga Shrine Club.  Besides His Parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Sue Hames Edwards.

            He is survived be his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kerri Edwards; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Mary Edwards; sisters and brother-in-law, Cindy Finster, Diane Gilliland, Mary (Pudge) and Richard White; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating, Active Pallbearers, Billy Gilliland, Matt Edwards, Tony White, Samuel Finster, Chance Gilliland, and Cale Pledger.  Interment in Summerville Cemetery with Masonic Rites at graveside, by Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 until 8 P.M.  The Family request no flowers and no food; suggest contributions to Chattooga Shrine Club or New Beginnings Baptist Church.

Mrs. Frances Ruth Sills

MRS. FRANCES RUTH SILLS, age 60, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday morning in an Atlanta hospital.  Born in Huntsville, Alabama on September 1, 1958, She was a daughter of the late James and Daisy Idela Polk Rollins.  Mrs. Sills was a homemaker.
           
            Surviving are children, James Brown, Chrystal Brown, Sandra Brown, Wade Brown, Curtis York, Shanrail York, Edward Sills, and Chelsea Sills; Ten Grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Dibb, Mary Jane Foster, Rose Ann Waldon, and Lisa Rawlston; brothers, Labron Rollins and Jimmy Rollins; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

            Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2019, at 11 A.M.  from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating, interment in Friendship Cemetery, Pisgah, Alabama.  Active Pallbearers Edward Sills, Curtis York, Kenneth Brown, James Brown, Sebastian Brown, and Nicholas Brown.   The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Thursday from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mr. Brad Earl Johnson


MR. BRAD EARL JOHNSON, age 49, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday evening in a Rome hospital.  He was born in Rome, Georgia on April 8, 1969, a son of the late Earl Franklin Johnson and Frances Estelle Gorham Johnson, who survives.  Mr. Johnson was an entrepreneur and was preceded in death by father-in-law, Lamar Gregg.

            Surviving wife, Missy Johnson; mother, Frances Estelle Gorham Johnson; children, Paige & Cody Marshall, Blake Briggs, Chase Pate, Braden Johnson, Meagan Johnson; grandchildren, Sidney Crane, Logan Redford, Nora June Marshall; sister & brother-in-law Holly & Chris Henderson; mother-in-law, Sandra Gregg; father-in-law Billy & Debbie Light; sisters-in-law, Vicki & Zeb Whitehead, Teresa & John Critchfield, Vicki & Zeb Whitehead, Christina & Tshombe High; nieces & nephews, Haedyn & Zac Mobbs, Daniel Gray, Alex Henderson, Christian Henderson; great niece and nephew, Ella Mobbs and Zion Mobbs; 14 other Nieces and Nephews.

            A life celebration will be held Saturday, January 26th, at 1:00 P.M. from the North Summerville Baptist Church with Pastor Sammy Barrett and family members speaking; interment in Lyerly Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Rodney Blackwell, Randy Johnson, Darrick Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Jeffery Gorham, Grant Burkhalter, Mike Hawkins, Danny Parrish, Alex Johnson, and Jon Mitchell; Honorary Pallbearers, John Critchfield, Zeb Whitehead, Tshombe High, Chris King, and Tony Floyd.

James Larry Smith ("Junior")

James Larry Smith (“Junior”) passed away of natural causes in his home in Trion, Georgia on January 13, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Elsie Smith of Trion, Georgia.  Howard had been a supervisor for Riegel Textile Mills and Elsie had been a nurse for the Trion hospital.

Larry was survived by his two sons, Christopher Scott Smith of Gainesville, Ga., and Jamison Corey Smith of Lookout Mountain, Ga..  Also surviving him is his sister Patricia G. Pazol, R.N. of Gainesville, Ga..  Surviving him also are seven grandchildren:  Alexandria LeAnn Smith age 23 of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., Jackson Corey Smith age 6 of Lookout Mountain, Ga., Matthew Ryan Smith age 25 of Gainesville, Ga., Bailey Caroline Smith age 23 of Gainesville, Ga., Jacob Aaron Smith age 20 of Gainesville, Ga., Lawson Belle Smith age 13 of Gainesville, Ga., and Nolee Sha Smith age 9 of Gainesville, Ga..  Also surviving are two nephews Joshua Lynn Pazol of Gainesville, Ga., and Anthony Kip Pazol of Gainesville, Ga..  Survivors also include two great nieces:  AnnaLee Marie Pazol age 17 of Gainesville, Ga. And Averie Taylor Pazol age 14 of Gainesville, Ga. and two great nephews: Austin Joshua Pazol age 28 of Gainesville, Ga., and Andrew Daulton Pazol age 25 of Gainesville, Ga.

Larry was a Christian and followed the Southern Baptist faith, although he was not a member of a church when he died.  He had recently returned to his home town of Trion, Georgia, where he had grown up and played football for the Trion Bulldogs when he was in high school.  Larry also attended Northwest Georgia Military Academy and Northwest Georgia College.  Larry was retired now, but he had been a businessman who had owned a number of businesses over the years including Volunteer Auto Mats of Chattanooga, Tn., and Smith Automotive Industries (SAI) of Dalton and Cohutta, Georgia.

He will be sadly missed by his family, his friends, and all those who knew him.  No one loved to laugh and talk more than Larry.  He will always be remembered as the cheerful, dynamic person that he had always been.

Memorial will be held Sunday, January 27th, 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
