Mr. Robert Hill Floyd

MR. ROBERT HILL FLOYD, SR., age 90, of Peach Blossom Lane, Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, September 30, 2019, at his residence.  A native of Whitfield County, Georgia, Tilton Community, He was born to the late David Lewis and Abbie Buckner Floyd on June 6, 1929.  Preceded in death by His wife, Helen Murdock Floyd, son Robert Hill Floyd, Jr. (Bobby), sisters, Margaret and Betty Floyd, and brothers, Jay, Glenn, Johnny, and Vernon Floyd.  Survivors include: son, Jerry (Terri) Floyd, Chatsworth; daughters, Susan (Barry) Dunaway, Calhoun, Kathy Floyd, Summerville; daughter-in-law, Helen Flowers Floyd, Lagrange; siblings, Jeanette Caldwell, Rocky Face, Barbara Vaughn, Tunnel Hill, and Jim Floyd, Chatsworth; sister-in-law, Sue Floyd, Dalton; grandchildren, Jeremy (Beth) Floyd, Dr. Mark (Kristen) Floyd, Jay (Kim) Floyd, Jan (Rich) Fendley, Robert (Lizzy) Dunaway, and Joey Dunaway; 14 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

 Robert was a Summerville Housing Authority Commissioner for 43 years, serving as Chairman for the past 26 years.  The apartments throughout the city were named the R.H. Floyd Apartments in his honor.  He was a charter member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Greeter, and a founding member of the Good Samaritan Committee.  He played a great part in the building of the church itself.  He coached many youth in Little League and Girls softball.  He also played, managed, and refereed for the Church and Industrial Leagues in softball in the county.  Robert was a member of the Chattooga Band Boosters and the Chattooga High Linebackers Club.  He was instrumental in securing funds to build the Little Big Horn Stadium in Chattooga High School.  He began his career at age 17 in the Dime Store Industry, working for WW Mac in Dalton and coming to Summerville in 1948 to manage his first store.  He continued to manage stores in Tennessee, eventually came back to Summerville in 1957 to begin working for Southern Wholesale, where he managed Southern 5 &10, later named Super D.  He actually helped open the Super D in Trion and managed both stores until the Summerville store closed in 1989. Robert was a member of the Chattooga Chamber of Commerce and was the driving force in beginning the annual Halloween walk.  After his retirement in 1992, he began painting, wall papering, and lawn care for many years.  Robert enjoyed his family, his church, and community and will never know the legacy that he left behind.

 Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3rd, at 1:00 P.M. from the Horizon Baptist Fellowship with the Rev. Miss Lorene Colbert

MISS LORENE COLBERT, age 93, of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019, in the local nursing home.  A native of Trion, Georgia. She was born to the late John Franklin and Florence Atkins Colbert on February 12, 1926.  Miss Colbert was a 1944 graduate of Trion High School, a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class of the Church, and a member of Mt. Vernon Quarter Century Club.  She had worked for the Trion YMCA, Riegel Textile Corporation Glove, Boss Mfg, and Best Mfg.  She was preceded in death by her Parents, foster parents Charles B. and Clara Bankey Allmon.

            Surviving are nieces, Polly Hayes and Sylvia Starkey; great nieces and nephews, Tammy Cordle, Beverly Ford, Steven Hayes, and Kevin Hayes; 1 Great Great Niece-5 Great Great Nephews; 10 Great Great Great Nieces and Nephews and 1 Great Great Great Great Niece.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2nd, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Casey Bramlett and Rev. Terry Shore officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Dillan Ford, Butch Cordle, Jr., Donald Farmer, II, Joe Hayes, David Owens, and Brian Hardeman; Honorary Pallbearers the Lydia Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church and Trion High School Class of 1944.  The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 2 P.M. at the Funeral Home.  At other hours the Family will be at the residence of a niece, Sylvia Starkey #642 Palm Tree Road, Trion, Georgia.

Mrs. Marie Houser

MRS. MARIE HOUSER, age 80, of Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, September 27, 2019, at her residence.  A native of Trion, Georgia, she was born to the late Felton Joseph and Addie Jewel Hollis Westbrook, on November 16, 1938.  Mrs. Houser took pride in being a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Edward Houser; a son, Phillip Wayne Houser; sisters, Irene Franklin, Esther Hammond, and Paula Walker; and brothers, Ray Westbrook, Robert Westbrook, and Charles Westbrook.

            Surviving are sons, Jimmy (Beth) Houser, David B. (Laura) Houser, and Stacy  Houser (Luann Brady); Grandchildren, Stephanie Kirby, Dustin Houser, Cassidy Houser, Caity Beth Houser, Josie Houser, Taylor Rose Houser, Jameson Houser, Caleb Houser, Gage Houser, and Peyton Edney; 3 Great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Clowdis.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

            Funeral service will be held Sunday, September 29, 2019, at 3:00 P.M. from the Graveside with Minister Brad Hayes and Minister Josh Daniel officiating; Interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Houser, David B. Houser, Stacy Houser, Cassidy Houser, Jameson Houser, and Caleb Houser.  The family will receive friends Saturday, September 28th from 6-8pm at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mr. Joe Edward Brown

MR. JOE EDWARD BROWN, age 35, of Holland Community, Lyerly, Georgia. Passed away unexpectedly August 27, 2019.  He was born in Rome, Georgia on December 4, 1983, a son of the late Linda Everett and Charles E. Brown , who survives.  Mr. Brown worked for the Nissan auto parts company.

            Surviving are His life partner, Daryl Lee Marsh; father, Charles E. Brown; brother, Charles James Brown; Nieces and Nephews.

            A Life Celebration will be held Tuesday, September 17th, at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home from 5 until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Rosetta Lucille Stephens

MRS. ROSETTA LUCILLE STEPHENS, age 94, of Ellen Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019, in the local nursing home.  She was born in Dalton, Georgia on January 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Raymond R. and Nellie Crabtree Garmany.  Mrs. Stephens was retired from the weaving department of Riegel Textile Corporation and was preceded in death by her husband, the late John Clyde Stephens.

            Surviving are Nieces and Nephews.

            Graveside service Tuesday, September 17th, at 10:30 A.M. in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Gary Howell officiating.
