MCDANIEL

MRS. NANCY WHITE MCDANIEL, age 90, of Ellen Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was born in Lyerly, Georgia, on April 23, 1931, to the late Wallace and Sarah McLeod Smith. Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Pennville Community Church and for over thirty years, was a nurse at Chattooga Hospital. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting, crafts, and ceramics. She served as a Girl Scout leader, was a dedicated military wife, traveling extensively through Europe with four children, enriching their cultural and world view of life. She had a love of travel, new places, and experiences. She was preceded in death by her, husband the late Earl McDaniel.

Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Gribble, Cynthia (Eddie) Wilson, Malinda (Jay) Tonge, and Laura (Kelvin) Lovingood; grandchildren, Michelle Chamlee, Michael (Ashley) Terrell, and Daniel (Julia) Terrell; great-grandchildren, Samuel Terrell, Emmie Terrell, and Jake Terrell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. from the Pennville Community Church with Pastor Jon Davis and Rev. Gary Howell officiating. Flowers are excepted or contributions may be made to Floyd Felines, P. O. Box 2364, Rome, Georgia-30164.

BOZEMAN

MS. PATRICIA VENITA “PURPLE PATTI” BOZEMAN, age 62, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at Redmond Hospital, in Rome, Georgia. In accordance with Her wishes, since she was diagnosed with scleroderma over twenty years ago, her body was donated to science for research. Ms. Bozeman was born May 18, 1959, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, the late William Samuel Bozeman and brother, the late Wade Keith Bozeman.

Surviving are Her son, Nicholas Bozeman Lind and her mother, Cara Cash Bozeman, both of Summerville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 1:00 P. M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Family members and Friends officiating. JACKSON

Ms. Rose Benedict Jackson,104, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 23, 2022.

She was born in Pittsburg, KS but relocated to Chattooga County following her service in WWII. She was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the European Theaters with the U.S. Army’s 5th Evacuation Hospital as a Nurse achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.

After discharge from the service, Ms. Jackson married Grover C. Jackson and began a 70 plus year residency in Chattooga County residing in Lyerly and Summerville. Ms. Jackson worked as a nurse for Dr. G. H Little for 23 years and for Bigelow-Sanford Inc for almost 5 years before retiring in 1972.

Ms. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Jackson. She is survived by her nephew, Kenneth Henderson of Ocala, FL, her nieces Barbara Deane of Kansas City, MO, and Rosemary Macisaac of Escondido, CA.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29th, at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers Vergil Tudor, Johnny Crawford, Wesley Thomas, Jack Brewer, Butch Gardner, and Kenneth Henderson. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 until 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. At Mrs. Jackson’s request, please omit flowers.

ELROD

MR. SHANE ELROD, age 45, of Bittings Avenue, Summerville, Georgia, passed away January 13, 2022, at his residence. Shane was born in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on January 28, 1976, was a son of the late Franklin Dave Elrod and the late Martha Sharon Little Elrod. He was employed by J. P. Smith Lumber Company.

Surviving are daughters, Isabel Roberts, Jessica Elrod, Roxie Foster, and Cheyenne Foster; brothers, David Martin, Adam Martin, and Andy Hill; step sisters, Tammy Elrod and Tina Elrod; step brother, Kenny Ledford; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The Family will receive friends Monday, January24th, from 5 until 8 P.M. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

CALDWELL

MR. GEORGE DEWAYNE CALDWELL, age 70, of Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday morning, January 17, 2022, following an extended illness. He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia to the late Charlie Marvie and Irene Mae Ellison Caldwell on October 26, 1951. Mr. Caldwell was a retired auto mechanic, in addition to Parents was preceded in death by his wife the late Patricia Carpenter Caldwell, sisters, Pamela Jean Caldwell and Barbara Caldwell, brother, Charles Leroy Caldwell.

Surviving are His sisters Rachael Kilgore, Linda Jones, and Doris Tapp; brothers, Jerry Caldwell and Ray Marvin and DenaneCaldwell all of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19th, at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Ray Caldwell officiating, interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery. SIFFLES

MR. ROBERT WAYNE (BOBBY) SIFFLES, age 71, of Higdon, Alabama, passed away Monday afternoon at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Siffles was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on August 25, 1950, a son of the late Robert and Peggy Owens Siffles. He was a Farmer. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by wife, the late Norma Mae Green Siffles.

Surviving are His girl friend, Dale Lowe; sons, Robert Siffles, Michael Battles, and John Siffles; sister, Shirley McDonald; half sisters, Betty Edgeworth and Dorothy Fay Siffles; half brother, Jackie Siffles; Two Grandchildren, Several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Collins officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 until 3 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

BENNETT


Janice Chapman Bennett, age 85 of Summerville, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Born in Demorest, Georgia on December 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Chapman and June Wiggins Chapman Hicks. Mrs. Bennett was a teller with Habersham Bank of Baldwin and retired with 20 years of service. She was an avid supporter of the Chattooga Cancer Support Group and loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Lathan Bennett; first husband, Willie Joe McGraw; step-father, Raymond Hicks; paternal grandparents, Oscar & Clara Wiggins; maternal grandparents, Will & Minnie Chapman.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy & Jeff Bennett and Terri & Ricky Jones all of Summerville; grandchildren and spouses, Beth & Casey Howard, Dustin & Jennifer Jones and B.J. & Ashley Hall; great grandchildren, Emma Howard, Ben Howard, Rylan Jones, Emery Jones and Mayson Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Max & Beverly Chapman of Terrell, Texas; nephews, Ray Chapman and Steven Chapman.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Umberhant officiating.

Jack Ross Herring

Leaving a Legacy

Strong. Generous. Loving. Adventurous. Fair. Firm. Charming. These are only a few words to describe Jack Ross Herring, 85, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, at the home he built in Summerville, Georgia in 1974.

Jack will be remembered most as being the principal of Chattooga High School from 1972 until 1988, with thousands of students and teachers under his care spanning two decades. Prior to this, Jack was born on May 31, 1936, in Boyce, Louisiana. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. His adventurous spirit took him all over the United States, finally settling down in Summerville, Georgia. He attended Berry College and received his bachelor’s degree in education and ultimately received his Specialists Degree as he continued his career, progressing from teacher, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent, finally reaching retirement in 1998.

His passions include his family, traveling, golf, home renovations, landscaping, and was an avid silver collector in his later years. While he built many things in his lifetime, he was most proud of building his home, which his daughter and her family now reside in, and he was a participant in the building of Horizon Baptist Fellowship, his church home for 30 years.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Hillman Herring Fredricks and father, Stephen A. Herring, as well as his brother, Maxie Herring, of Alexandria, Louisiana. Left here to carry out his legacy are his beloved daughter Heather Herring Casey, son-in law Nicolas Casey and granddaughters Caroline Grace Jackson, 20, Colbi Marie Jackson, 19, and Olivia Nicole Casey, 13. Other surviving family include Donna Fant Herring of Centre, Alabama, Sue Dunn Holloway and family, Maureen Herring, Sheryl Herring Lambert and family, Karen Herring and family, Candace Herring Blount and family, and Stephen Jody Herring, all of Louisiana.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at Rainwater Funeral Home from 3 until 5 PM and a Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Sunday, January 9th, 2022 at Horizon Baptist Fellowship at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the Jack Herring Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created in honor of his passion for education and the students he has impacted in the past and to allow his legacy to continue to impact students of Chattooga County in the future.
