Mrs. Sara Beth Cobb

MRS. SARA BETH COBB, age 77, of Austin, Texas passed away January 24, 2016, in Austin, Texas.  A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born to the late Carl and Edith Newsome on January 29, 1938.  Sara was a graduate of Trion High School  where she was homecoming queen and a beauty pageant winner.  She joyously dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family and was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

            Surviving are her husband, of 57 years, Clyde; daughters, Laura (Brad),and Carolyn (Lan); son, David (Cindy); grandchildren, Michael, Ben, Weston, Tiana, Chloe, and Atticus; sister, Celia (Jimmy).

            A memorial service will beheld Friday, February 5th, at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eva Massey

MRS. EVA MASSEY, age 91, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, in a Rome hospital.  She was born in the Oak Hill Community, Lyerly, Georgia on February 19, 1924, a daughter of the late Edwin Lumpkin and Lela Addie Holt Harrison.  She was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Massey, and her husband, operated a grocery and general merchandise store in Menlo for also most 50 years.  She especially enjoyed offering her customers quality flowers and shrubs for planting each spring, and stocked a selection of country cabinets; she also was a beekeeper and was known for providing sourwood honey in the store.  Mrs. Massey was a devoted wife, supporting her Husband in various endeavors including establishing a family farm.  She and her  Husband were staunch supporters of Menlo Elementary School.  She was a lifelong Democrat, encouraging numerous friends to take an active part in government at all levels; receiving the 1999 Democrat of the Year Award and was inducted into the Democratic Hall of Fame in 2011.  Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, the late LeRoy Massey on June 16, 2003 and a sister, the late Betty H. Smith on December 9, 2015, brothers, Herman “Shorty” Harrison and Henry Harrison.

            Surviving are daughter, Barbara Massey Reece and son, Charles Edwin Massey and Jerri, all of Menlo; grandchildren, Kelly Reece Floyd & Jeff, Vanessa Massey, Lee Massey, and C.E. Massey; great grandchildren, Leighanne Floyd, Grace Floyd, Sophia Floyd, Noah Floyd, Jesse Floyd, Zaidee Moore, and Sammy Moore; sister-in-law, Frances Seymore; brother-in-law, Leonard E. Smith; several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1st, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenny Roach and Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating, interment in Ami Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers David Holt, Greg Harrison, Gary McConnell, James Thomas, Lee Massey, and C. E. Massey, Noah Floyd, and Jesse Floyd; Honorary Pallbearers Sammy Frashier, David Luther, Pete Denson, Wayne Pritchett, Mike Poole, Michael Larkins, Jewell Hall, Elizabeth Wofford, Madge Fox, and the Staff of North Georgia Home Health.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3 until 6 P.M. at the Funeral Home and Monday from 1 P.M. until the hour of service.  Flowers or contributions to the Eva and LeRoy Massey Scholarship Fund at United Community Bank are appreciated.

Mr. Lawrence Earl Hoffman

MR. LAWRENCE EARL HOFFMAN, age 89, of Mitchell Circle, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016, at his residence.  A native of Girard, Kansas, He was born to the late Larenzo and Myrtle Morrison Hoffman on November 25, 1926.  Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church, was retired from the U. S. Air Force after 25 years of service, afterward he worked for and retired as electrical forman for the Water Department for the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In addition to His parents was preceded in death by a sister.

            Surviving are His wife, of 39 years, Shirley Murphy Hoffman; step daughters and son-in-law, Karen & Greg Echols and Wendy Stephenson; step son, Kenneth Stephenson; 1 Sister; 1 Brother; grandchildren, Matt Echols, Jessica Flood, Rachel Echols, Jamie Meadows, Justin Stephenson, Lauren Stephenson, and Mackenzie Stephenson; several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

            Funeral service was held Monday, January 25th, from Graveside in Lyerly Cemetery with Chaplain Ricky Studdard officiating.  Active Pallbearers Greg Echols, Matt Echols, Nathan Flood, Doster Toles, and Danny Bradford; Honorary Pallbearer Kenneth Stephenson.

Mrs. Katherine L. Echols Camp

MRS. KATHERINE L. ECHOLS CAMP, age 87, of Perennial Springs Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, in the local Nursing Home. She was born, October 16, 1928, living  her entire life on the family property in the Perennial Springs Community of Chattooga County, Georgia. She was a daughter of the late Charles Richard (Charlie) Echols, Sr. and the late Mary Berry Echols.  Mrs. Camp taught school for two years during WW II and was the Office Manager of Echols Appliance over 65 years.  She served on the Chattooga Democratic Committee for over 50 years and was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church.  Mrs. Camp was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy Fayette Camp and a daughter, the late Mary Katherine Camp Bullard.

            Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Chuck Harris; son-in-law, Steve Bullard; granddaughter and grandson, Charlie and Sam Bullard; granddaughter, Marti Green; great grandsons, Camp Bullard and Cooper Bullard; special niece, Honey Housch; several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 24th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey officiating, interment in the family plot of Perennial Springs Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Richard Echols, Greg Echols, Jim Echols, Erick Housch, Ben Housch, and Marty Green; Honorary Pallbearers special care givers, Opal Deering and Mary Rape, the ladies Sunday School Class of Perennial Springs Baptist Church, and the Staff of Oak View Nursing & Rehab. Center.  Flowers are accepted or contributions to the Mary Camp Bullard Scholarship Fund at United Community Bank.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday from 12 noon until the hour of service.

Mr. Jay William Shore

MR. JAY WILLIAM SHORE, age 76, of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday evening, January 21, 2016, in a Rome hospital.  A native of New York, New York, He was born to the late Hyman and Melba Jacobs Shore on April 26, 1939.  Mr. Shore was a member of the Highway 27 South Church of Christ, LaFayette, Georgia and was retired from the U. S. Navy after 20 years of service, the last four years a Submariner on the USS Von Steisben.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, the late Jonathan Shore.

            Surviving are His wife, Ellie Shore; daughter, Sarah Shore of Summerville; sons, John Bohannon of Atlanta, Casey Bohannon of Grand Rapids, MI, and David Bohannonof Trion; brother, Murray Shore of New York; grandchildren, Mary Shore, Jeyda Bohannon, Alex Bohannon, Tylan Bohannon, Justin Bohannon, Shawn Bohannon, Brendon Bohannon, and Chris Bohannon; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23rd, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers Daniel Curtis and Mark Hogan officiating, interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of the Highway 27 South Church of Christ.  The Family will receive friends Saturday at the Funeral Home from 2 P. M. until the hour of service.
