MR. JOHNNY DUKE
EDWARDS, age
78, of Dry Valley Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019,
in a Rome hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 7, 1941, a son of the
late Duke Hamilton (Water Bill) and Ella
Mae Padgett Edwards. Mr. Edwards loved
fishing and hunting. He was retired from
the City of Summerville after numerous years of service; serving in several
capacities including Superintendent of the water and sewer department. He was a retired volunteer Fireman for the
City of Summerville, a member and Deacon of the New Beginnings Baptist Church,
member of Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM, and a member of the Chattooga Shrine
Club. Besides His Parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Sue Hames Edwards.
He is
survived be his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kerri Edwards; brother and
sister-in-law, Billy and Mary Edwards; sisters and brother-in-law, Cindy
Finster, Diane Gilliland, Mary (Pudge) and Richard White; several Nieces and
Nephews also survive.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, January 31th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill
Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Johnson
officiating, Active Pallbearers, Billy Gilliland, Matt Edwards, Tony White,
Samuel Finster, Chance Gilliland, and Cale Pledger. Interment in Summerville Cemetery with
Masonic Rites at graveside, by Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM. The Family will receive friends at the
Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 until 8 P.M.
The Family request no flowers and no food; suggest contributions to
Chattooga Shrine Club or New Beginnings Baptist Church.
