HELTON

MRS. VESTA STEPHENS HELTON, age 84, of Helton Drive, Summerville, Georgia, Berryton Community, passed away early Saturday morning, March 23, 2024, at her residence. A native of Berryton, She was born on September 16, 1939 to the late G. W. and Catherine Magdalene Nelson Stephens. Mrs. Helton was retired lab tech for Best Mfg. Company and a member of North Summerville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother the late Doug Stephens.

Surviving are husband, Harold Lee Helton; daughters, Cheryl Farrar (Brent Williamson) and Stephanie Helton (Jeff Dotson); granddaughter, Jennifer Turner; great grandchildren, Stella Turner, Annabelle Turner, and Vivian Turner; brother, Bruce (Ruth) Stephens; sister-in-law, Barbara Stephens; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Smith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Joseph Stephens, Brent Williamson, Evan Stephens, Chuck Helton, Tommy Maynor, and Terry Scoggins. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M.

GAINES

MR. JAMES PATRICK (PAT) GAINES, age 66, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, in the local nursing home. Mr. Gaines was born May 1, 1957 in Summerville, Georgia to the late Joe B. and Martha Bartlett Gaines. He graduated from Chattooga High School Class of 1975, attended Jacksonville State University and was a member of the JSU Marching Southerners from 1976 and 1977. Pat was Baptist by Faith, was an ordained Deacon, and actively attended church until His illness. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Alan Dean and Nelson Wilson.

Surviving are His wife, Karen Dean Gaines; son, Ethan Gaines; sister, Brenda Gail Wilson; special sister, Cece Laney; special brother, Andy Hutchins; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Gary Howell, Brother Jason Lee, and Brother Andy Hutchins officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Dylan Adams, Levi Adams, Philip Wells, Mickey Floyd, Gary W. Woods, Bryn Hutchins, Ty Hutchins, Todd Woods, and Kevin Woods. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated or contributions may be made to the Berryton Church God.

FORD

MR. WILLIAM DAVID FORD, age 75, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday evening, March 6, 2024, in a Rome hospital. A native of Trion, Georgia, He was born to the late William O. and Mildred Moore Ford, on October 5, 1948. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, the late Diane Gorman Ford, and a sister, the late Sarah Jane Ford. He was a Volunteer Fireman from 1982 until 1993, City of Summerville Fireman for 32 years, and has served as City of Summerville Councilman from 2011 until present; He was a Veteran of Viet Nam serving in the U. S. Marines Corps.

Surviving are several Cousins and His City of Summerville Family.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 10th, at 1:30 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Mr. Arch Farrar, Mr. Stan Moseley, and Mrs. Odell Anderson officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Charles Cooper, Britt Evans, Othel Stone, Josh Shelton, Adam Latham, and J. R. Brown; Honorary Pallbearers Arch Farrar, Stan Moseley, Kenneth Moore, B. J. Eleam, Mike Salmon, and Gene Espy. Military Honors by Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Post #5 and Fireman’s Honors by Rome-Floyd County Fire Department Honor Guard. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, the Family suggest contributions to the Humane Society.

Mrs. Helen Frances Canady Odom passed peacefully hand in hand with her husband, Howard, of 68 years at her residence on March 7, 2024. Mrs. Helen was Christian by faith and a faithful member/pastor's wife of the Trinity Baptist Church, a long time child care giver of hundreds of children. She touched the life of so many children and families. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, cook and care giver. She was born in Marshal County Albertville, Alabama to the late Alvin and Irene Cannady. She was one of ten children surviving of the ten include Verlon Cannady and Linda Cannady. She is preceded in Death by her mother Irene (Hollis) Cannady and the Late Alvin Cannady and Son in law Ricky Croy, along with several brothers and sisters. 

 Surviving are her Daughter Wanda Croy (Rickey Biddle) and Sons Brother Mike (Phyllis) Odom and Steve (Karen) Odom. Grandchildren Jeremy (Julie) Croy, April Odom, Nathan (Katie) Odom, Hannah (Eddie) Millican, Matthew Odom, Dustin Blackwell, Jacob Odom. GreatGrandchildren, Mikinzie (Jeremy) Anderson, Lightnin (Ashley) Croy, Reese (Nic) Davis, Noah Millican, Sarah Millican, Olivia Millican, Zoey Millican, Mikyia Odom, Ashley Odom, Caroline Odom Tallyn Odom, and Melanie Odom. Darty Blackwell and Sutton Blackwell, Great Great Grandchildren, Ryan Anderson, Brantley Anderson, Coleman Gilreath, Sailor Croy, and Hadley Anderson, Many Nieces and Nephews.

 Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Biddle, Brother Robert Brown, and Her Loving Son Brother Mike Odom officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden.  Active Pallbeares will be Jeremy Croy, Eddie Millican, Nathan Odom, Matthew Odom, Lightnin Croy, Jacob Odom and Dustin Blackwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be The members of Trinity Baptist Church and all the children and families that “Mawmaw Helen” Had a Part in raising. Singers will include her Great granddaughters Sarah and Olivia Millican. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
