Smith, Mr. Mell R.

            MR. MELL R. SMITH, age 87, of Conyers, Georgia, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, in Conyers, following a sudden event.  A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, He was born to the late L.F. and Maude Bennett Smith on March 2, 1925.  Mr. Smith attended the Summerville First Presbyterian Church PCA, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry serving in WW II, where He was awarded the Purple Heart, and was retired engineer for Midwest Operating Engineers.  He was preceded in death by first wife the late Leola T. Smith and a son, the late Raymond Taylor Smith.

            Surviving are His wife-Nelda Padgett Smith; grandchildren-Matthew Smith of Memphis, TN. and Katheryn Ann Smith of Jonesboro, AR.; step daughter-Debbie Gayler of Conyers; sister-Shirley Crane of Menlo; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Greg King officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 10:00 A. M. until the hour of service.

Morgan, Mrs. Ada Mae Rosser Bridges

Mrs. Ada Bridges Morgan, a Chattooga Resident

          Mrs. Ada Mae Rosser Bridges Morgan passed from this life in the wee hours of Saturday morning (2/9/13) at her residence. She was 95 years of age. Mrs. Morgan was born on May 8, 1917 in Jackson's Hollow at a place where Chattooga County meets Floyd County. A daughter of the late George Lee and Bessie White Rosser, she was very proud of her ancestors who were early settlers to Chattooga County. She was named for her grandmother, Ada Hudgins White. With the exception of one year spent near Waycross, Georgia as a child, she was a lifelong resident of Chattooga County. Joining shortly after its charter, Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church for almost 80 years. She attended church activities regularly until the age of 90 and at her death was the oldest member of the church.

          She was married to Joe Henry Bridges in Chattooga County on December 24, 1933. After Mr. Bridges' death, she married Gilbert A. Morgan in Dade County, Georgia on January 23,1982. Having been employed at the Trion Company in the Glove Mill, she was retired from Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. in Berryton. She also worked for a time at Advance Glove in Rome, Georgia. She was formerly an active member of the Home Demonstration Club in the Little Sand Mountain Community. She was a three-time cancer survivor. She took solo trips to Florida until the age of 80; and drove her car until the age of 90. She also enjoyed church activities, ceramics, cooking, gardening, family history, flowers-especially her "Old Maids", quilting, traveling, and activities of the North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation. She was loved by all that knew her, but she was especially adored by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

          In addition to her husband, Mrs. Morgan is preceded in death by her siblings: Annie Bell Bishop, Rose Murdock, Ballenger Rosser, Frances Rosser, Frank Rosser, John Rosser, Milton Rosser, and Helen Satterfield. Mrs. Morgan is survived by a host of relatives. Survivors include her children: Jerry (Sue) Bridges, Summerville; Patty Shepherd, Gainesville, Florida; and Ted Bridges, Leesburg, Alabama. Mrs. Morgan is also survived by six grandchildren: Bambi Bridges, Menlo; Barry (Pam) Bridges, Summerville; Ben (Sylvia) Bridges, Macon, Georgia; Betsy (Kevin) Hayes, Summerville; Angie Keen, Earleton, Florida; and Chris (Leslie) Shepherd, Melrose, Florida. She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and former daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Bridges.  She is also survived by siblings: Hilda (Bob) Reynolds, Lyerly; Josephine Baggett, Rome, Georgia; and Paul Rosser, Summerville. Gratitude is expressed to her special friend and caregiver, Marie Henderson; caregiver, Bridget Iwens; caregiver, Carolyn Blackmon; caregiver, Sharon Hughes; and to the entire SolAmor Hospice Staff.

          The family will receive friends on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. The services will be conducted by Ben Bridges and the Reverend Ricky Studdard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Barry Bridges, Chantry Bridges, Joseph Frady, Haydn Hayes, Holden Hayes, Kevin Hayes, and Chris Shepherd. Kendrick, Mrs. Jo Ann

           MRS. JO ANN KENDRICK, age 72, of Orchard Hill Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.  A native of Bartow County, Georgia, she was born to the late Herman and Lola Smith Wilkey on May 12, 1940.  Along with her husband Mrs. Kendrick was former Owner and Operator of The Round Table Restaurant.

            Survivors include her husband-William Harold Kendrick; daughter-Cheryl Ann Mobbs; son-Thomas Harold Kendrick, all of Summerville; three Grandchildren- Allison Joanna Harris, Bianca Diane Mobbs, and Tylen Harold Kendrick; brother Troy Wilkey of Summerville; several Nieces and nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8^th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Sprayberry, Mrs. Opal Marie

MRS. OPAL MARIE SPRAYBERRY, age 94, of Ridgeway Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.  A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born to the late Roland and Gussie Johnson White on January 3, 1919.  Mrs. Sprayberry was retired from the Spinning department of Riegel Textile Corporation.

Surviving are daughter-Janice Strickland of Summerville; sons-Richard Peace of Trion and Frankie Peace of Summerville; 10 Grandchildren, a number of Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31^st, at 12 noon from the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Richardson, Rev. Jack H.

REV. JACK H. RICHARDSON, age 88, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at his residence.  Born in Gillette, Wyoming on January 14, 1925, He was a son of the late Bert E. and Johnnie Eugenia Hair Richardson.

At an early age Rev. Richardson moved to Dalton, Georgia, attended Whitfield County Schools, and served in the U. S. Navy during WW II.  He was graduated from Truitt-McConnell College and Mercer University in Georgia, and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky.  He was a Minister of the Gospel having pastored the following Baptist Churches Mountaintown in Ellijay, Hill City in Calhoun, Dug Gap in Dalton, Tunnel Hill in Tunnell Hill, McConnell Memorial in Hiawassee, and Elk Creek in Taylorsville, KY.  Rev. Richardson retired from the Georgia Baptist Convention, in 1992, having served Chattooga, Gordon, and Memorial Associations as Missionary for 20 years.  He was a member, Deacon, choir member, and teacher/organizer of the Seekers Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church.

            Surviving are His wife, Jean E. Richardson; daughters & spouses-Amy and Dale Cruse of Dalton and Ann Marie and Chet Hollomon of Rome; grandchildren-Tyler Cruse, Richard Lewis, Amy Sarah Lewis; great grandchildren-William Lewis and Piper Lewis; sisters-Jean Hogsehead of Dalton, Frances Silvey of Ringgold, Carol Hammond, Decatur, TN, and Pat Toland of Sanford, FL; brother-Harold Richardson of Jacksonville, FL; several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. from the Trion First Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Deacons and the Seekers Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. at the Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the Family request contributions to the Building Fund of Trion First Baptist Church, #95 Church St.-Trion, Georgia-30753.

Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Myrtis Martha Shipp

MRS. MYRTIS MARTHA SHIPP FITZPATRICK, age 89, of Ramsey Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday evening in the local nursing home.  A native of LaFayette, Georgia She was born to the late Rev. W. H. Swift and Effie Greer Swift on October 2, 1923.  Mrs. Fitzpatrick was retired from the weaving department of Pepperell Mills and a member of Berryton Church of God.  She was preceded in death by first husband-the late Ray Shipp and second husband the late Shields Fitzpatrick, a daughter-the late Terresa Green, grandson-the late Joey Green, three Brothers and two Sisters also preceded Her.

Surviving are daughter-Anita Johnston; granddaughters-Rhonda Wofford & Pam Green; sisters-Gladys Crowe of Rossville and Margie Oaks of Rome; grandson-Marty Green; great granddaughters-Brittany Rhinehart & Marti Green; great grandson-Brody Lathem; several Nieces and Nephews.

Gladney, Mrs. Louise Nelson

MRS. LOUISE NELSON GLADNEY, age 97, of Hwy. #48-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 25, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.  A native of Berryton, Georgia, She was born to the late Robert Lee and Vashti Bailey Nelson on November 1, 1915.  Mrs. Gladney attended the Berryton Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ben F.-“Brownie” Gladney, son, the late Lamar Gladney, daughter, the late Joyce Virginia Haygood, and sisters, the late Roberta McGraw and Opal Wilson.

Surviving are daughter-in-law-Montez Wilson Gladney; granddaughter and spouse, Kaye & Preston Greer; great grandchildren, Will Greer and Kailen Greer all of Summerville; special nieces, who helped care for Mrs. Gladney, Mildred Cordle and Mildred McGraw; nephew, Ollie (John) McGraw; several Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

Broome, Jerrie Ann Henderson Watson

JERRIE ANN HENDERSON WATSON BROOME of Trion, Georgia died January 15, 2013.  At the time of her death she was a resident of Our Country Home, a private care facility in Lafayette, Georgia. She was born in Trion Hospital on October 13, 1938, oldest daughter of the late Berry Gordon and Mabel Henderson. Survivors include her four children, Leisha Dawn Watson Ehrenhalt of Atlanta, Dana Lynn Watson Young and son-in-law Adam of Lafayette, Georgia, Bradley Eugene Watson of Boulder, Colorado and Hugh Taylor Watson of Asheville, North Carolina, in  addition to a brother, Johnny Clarence Henderson of Lafayette, Georgia and a sister Billie Jean Henderson Stovall of Woodbury, Georgia, 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, along with several nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 19^th at 1:30 PM at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home in Summerville, Georgia, conducted by Dr. Warren Morehead, followed by a graveside service at the Chattooga Baptist Church Cemetery.
