Mr. Richard L. Bice

MR. RICHARD L. BICE, age 62, of Old River Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday morning, June 16, 2019, in a Rome hospital.  He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on November 26, 1956 to the late Frank and Vera Bundrum Bice; he was a logger by occupation.  In addition to His Parents, Mr. Bice was preceded in death by two bothers the late Leonard Bice and Frank Bice, Jr.

            Surviving are sons, Stevie Bice, Paul Bice, and Aaron Bice; sister, Cindy Williams; brothers, Roland Bice, Danny Bice, Terry Bice, Billy Bice; and also special friend Bonnie Woodfin.  Seven Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19^th, at 12:00 noon, from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends Wednesday at the Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until noon.

MILLER

Evelyn Pauline Miller, age 74, of Rome, formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at her residence.  She was born in Dekalb County Alabama on December 28, 1944, a daughter of the late Ollie Reed and Willie D. Wooten Miller. She was a waitress at the former Western Sizzlin Restaurant in Rome, Georgia.  In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Miller and also a sister, Rosie Murdock.

         Surviving are her daughter, Hazel Burgess, brothers, G. W. Miller and William Miller; grandchildren, Jason Hamilton, Steven Hamilton, and Kandi Stanford; great grandchildren, Jordon, Levi, Johnna, Emma, and Jacob Hamilton; great great granddaughter, Josie Hamilton; several Nieces and Nephews.

         Funeral services will be held Saturday, June15th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Gillespy officiating, interment in Town Creek Cemetery.  Pallbearers Steven, Hamilton, Levi Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Craig Carter, Cody Carter, and Cedric Carter; Honorary Pallbearers Carlos Carter, Clyde Carter, Charles Carter, and Carlton Carter.  The Family will receive friends Saturday from 11 A.M. until1:00 P.M. at the funeral Home.

HAWKINS

MR. WILLIAM R. (BILL) HAWKINS, 93, of Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was Baptist by faith and a member of Little Sand Mountain Church.  Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lizzie Mae Ward Hawkins, parents, Roy and Lizzie Owens Hawkins; sons-in-law Norman Early and John Crane; brothers, J. R., Shorty, Carlton, and Leon Hawkins all died earlier.  He was a retired textile worker and farmer.  Prior to this, Mr. Hawkins served his country as PFC 2^nd class in the U. S. Army Infantry during WW II; suffering life threatening injuries for which he received the Purple Heart Medal.  He has been gifted with the Quilt of Valor from the local VFW Ladies Aux., who gave their time and talent to make handmade quilts for our Veterans; and also a handmade Throw, from Hospice of Chattanooga , to show their appreciation for our service men and women. 

           

            Surviving are His daughters, Sandra Early and Joyce Crane; grandchildren, Stacey Tudor, Lisa (Craig) Sanford, Leigh Ann (Nick) Smith, Tasha (Lester) Jenkins, and Kaela Hayes; great grandchildren, Whitney, Garrett, Austin, Ansley, Breanna, Coleson, Brady, and Emery; sister, Vernice Stoner; brother, Bobby Hawkins; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.  We, as a Family, want to thank: Floyd Home Health of Summerville, Floyd Heart Failure Clinic, and Hospice of Chattanooga for taking such good care of Daddy; with special thank you to His nurse, Tiffany and bath aide, Charmanee; they are all kind and wonderful Ladies.

            Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 9^th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. David Romine officiating, interment in Little Sand Mountain Cemetery, with the American Legion Post #5 Shanklin-Attaway Honor Guard rendering Military Honors.  Active Pallbearers Stacey Tudor, Craig Sanford, Lester Jenkins, Ron Carter, Jerry Mixon, and Gene Gilbreath; Honorary Pallbearers Friends from Dirt Town Deli and Special Friend, Charles (Wormy) Payne.  The Family will receive friends Sunday at the Funeral Home from 2 until 4 P.M.

Mary Espy McCollum

         Mary Espy McCollum, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Shelby, North Carolina.  Mrs. McCollum was born on February 23, 1930, daughter of late DT Espy and Lucille Espy.  Mrs. McCollum was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Shelby, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her husband William A. McCollum.

         Survivors include, daughter, Norma McCollum (George) Overcash  and son, William Michael McCollum both of North Carolina; sister, Carol Selman and brother, Gene Espy; four Grandchildren and six Great-grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

         Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 4^th  at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Pastor Tracy Espy officiating, interment in Alexander Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Jason Espy, Jimmy Espy, Tommy Espy, Greg Espy, Brian Salmon, Matthew Salmon, Garrett Salmon, and Tip Allen.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 1p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.
