MRS. NELLIE CARTER of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday (August 11, 2010) afternoon at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Carter was born in Chattooga County on December 12, 1920, a daughter of the late Josh Lee and Mary Lou Busby Bennett, a retired textile worker with Best Mfg. Co., and was a member of South Commerce Church of Christ. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband the late Simon David Carter; two daughters- Caroline Carter and Linda Williamson; granddaughter, Heather Carter; great granddaughters, Brianna Carter and Mariah Carter; sister, Olene Bennett; brothers, Oscar Bennett and Buddy Bennett. To her children and all Family, she was the most loving and caring mother in all the world. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful mother who was always there for us. She gave of herself not only to family, but to anyone she could be a help to. We thank God for letting her stay here almost 90 years and then taking her to her mansion in heaven.

Surviving are daughters: Ilene Sweet of Augusta, GA; Carol Sue Stiefel of Summerville; Debbie Carter and Mary Duke both of Rome; sons: David Henry Carter of Lavonia, GA; Willard Carter of Collinsville, AL; Jerry Johnston Carter and Paul Lee Carter both of Summerville; brother: Gene Bennett of Rome. Twenty One Grandchildren, Twenty Eight Great Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (August 14) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Chaplin Neal Smith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Casey Christol, Jerry L. Carter, Jeff Carter, Chris Carter, Steve Duke and Taylor Duke. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Earle Rainwater Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
