Mr. Norman E. Bryant

MR. NORMAN E. BRYANT, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, in a Rome hospital.  He was born in Lyerly, Georgia, on October 24, 1933, a Son of the late Alfred Monroe and Marian Elizabeth Gardner Bryant.  Mr. Bryant was the owner-operator of Bryant and Sons Lumber Company and member of the South Summerville Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by three Sisters and six Brothers.

            Surviving are his wife, Calla Mae Bryant; sons and spouses, Dennis and Lisa Bryant, Anthony and Cindy Bryant, and Alan and Lynn Bryant; grandchildren, Stephanie Herring, Landon (Holly) Bryant, Virginia Bryant, Alex Bryant, Hunter Bryant, Hensley Bryant, Calen (Clancey) Cooper; great grandchildren, Ava Herring, Brody Bryant, Branson Bryant; several Nieces and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 15th, at 3:00 P.M. from the South Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Bryant, Rev. Doyle Waters, and Rev. Gene Greer officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Gardens.   Active Pallbearers Landon Bryant, Calen Cooper, Alex Bryant, O. W. Carpenter, Tommy Alexander, Roger Bryant, Bart Bryant, Bill McConnell; Honorary Pallbearers Dr. Joseph N. Herren, Bill Greer, Bobby Hawkins, Don Hayes, Jimmy Barron, John Sterner, Barry Duke, the Friendship Sunday School Class of South Summerville Baptist Church, Floyd County Home Health, and Heyman Hospice.  Visitation will be Saturday from 5 til 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.  Mr. Bryant will also be in state at the Church from 2 until service hour Sunday.   In lieu of flowers the Family suggest contributions to the South Summerville Baptist Church Adult Choir Ministry Fund.

Mr. Aubrey Gene "Gomer" Newton, Sr.

     MR. AUBREY GENE “GOMER” NEWTON, Sr., 66, of Holland, Georgia passed away Friday, January 6, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his Family.  He was born May 27, 1950 in Lynchburg, VA., one of 14 children.  He moved to Chattooga County, in 1970, eventually establishing Gomer’s Home Improvement in 2000.  Gomer was well known for his sense of humor and dedication to hard work.  He enjoyed spending time with family & friends and helping anyone in need; he was also an avid NASCAR fan.  He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Pistol Bar, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Combat Infantryman Badge, RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, RVN Civil Actions Honor Medal 1st Class Unit Citation.  

     He is preceded in death by parents, Evelyn Mae Newton & James Alfred Newton, Sr., 4 brothers, Donald Newton, Bobby Newton, Roy Rogers Newton, James Alfred Newton, Jr., & 3 sisters, Bonnie Sue Londeree, Nancy Newton, and Celia Dorsey.  Surviving are 4 brothers, Clyde (Sandra) Newton, Steve (Kathy) Newton, Sr., VA., Dell (Eva) Newton, Orlando, FL., & Ben Lang, VA; 3 sisters, Brenda (Larry) Lindberg, CA., Trudy Sanzere, VA, Margie (Red) Bryant, VA, sister-in-law Petty Newton, VA; 5 children, Aubrey (Butch) Newton, Jr. (Emilee), Holland, Jillian (Shannon) Bartlett, Trion, Jason Newton, Holland, Rebekeh DyAnn (Kevin) Henderson, & Audrey Mae Newton, All of Lyerly; mothers of His children, Nancy Newton, Trion & Joyce Cook Lyerly; 11 grandchildren, Victoria Newton (Justin) Ashworth, Levi Brown, Melina Bartlett, Phoenix Bartlett, Amelia Partch,  John Henry Newton, Olivia Newton, Gunner Wayne Henderson, Tinlee Sage Henderson, Madlyn Claire Henderson, Maelee Tayte Henderson; great grandchildren, Peyton Ashworth & Keelan Ashworth.

     Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 11th, at 1 P.M. from the Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev.’s Barry Peppers, James Baird, Greg King and Mr. Steve Baker officiating, interment in Johnson Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Sam Johnson, Steve Baker, Albert Palmer, Kevin Henderson, Stanley Johnson, and Dave (Frog) Mosteller; Honorary Pallbearers Gary McConnell, Roger Thomas,     Dwayne Thomas, Donnie Collins, and Alan Bryant.  Visitation, 2 until 4 PM Sunday, at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Jack M. Smith

MR. JACK M. SMITH, age 81, of Oak Hill Drive, Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017, in a Rome hospital.  Born on July 4, 1935 in Lindale, Georgia; He was a son of the late John Marvin and Gladys Martin Smith.  He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from the Rome General Electric Plant.  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, the late Clara Lee Hammett Smith; sisters, the late Mary J. Smith & Betty S. Black; step children, the late Charlotte Todd & Robert Alvin Johnson, Jr.; grandson, the late Danny Ray Johnson; great grandson, the late Jeremiah Johnson.

            Surviving are sister & spouse, Jane & Gary Henderson of Dalton; step children, Jackie Cane of Cloudland, Rita Brown of Cartersville, Terry Lee Johnson of Summerville, & Tony Johnson of Trion; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren,  Nieces, and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Ministers Hugh Glaze and Robby Eversole officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Tony Johnson, Mikie Jones, Mike Bridges, Jacob Hammitt, Dakota Jones, Lane Bridges, Brad Henderson, and Rock Harden.  Visitation will be Saturday from noon til 2 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. James C. (Buddy) Reed, Jr.

MR. JAMES C. (BUDDY) REED, JR., age 75, of Plum Street, Trion, Georgia passed away Monday, January 2, 2017, morning at his residence.  Born in Rockwood, Tennessee on April 1, 1941, He was a son of the late James C. Reed, Sr. and Charity Roark Reed.  Mr. Reed was retired from the finishing plant of Mount Vernon Mills, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Linda Collins Reed and a daughter, the late Susan Reed.

            Surviving are daughters, Mary Nell Reed of Atlanta, Allison Johnson of Armuchee, and Angela Parham of Trion; sons, Jimmy Reed of Oklahoma, Ronnie Reed of Coosa, and Corbitt Reed of Trion; sister, Margaret Langford; several Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4th, at 2:00 P. M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Junior Beech, Ron Lankford, Shawn Parham, Josh Swinford, Jonathan Swinford, and Dustin Rosser.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Tuesday, from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Nellie Beatrice Morgan

MRS. NELLIE BEATRICE MORGAN, age 83, of Piedmont Avenue, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in a Rome health care.  She was born on August 10, 1933, in Trion, Georgia, a daughter of the late Joseph Eugene and Eunice Estelle Fomby Peterson.  Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Walter L. Morgan, on November 17, 2013..

            Survivors include daughters & sons-in-law, Cheryl J. & Donald R. Thedford, Jr. and Janice L. & Randy C. Jennings; son & daughter-in-law, Rickey M. & Brenda Morgan; granddaughters & spouses, Stacy L. & Jeffrey S. Kirby, Amy L. & Jeremie D. Wallin, Tiffany N. Jennings; grandsons & spouses, Clayton J. Madison, Jr. & Terra J. Madison & Adam & Alaina McGuire; great granddaughters, Kelsey J. Johnson Freeman, Abigail Madison, Allison Madison, Ashley Kirby, Adalynn McGuire; great grandsons, Bradley S.
