MR. WILLIAM R. “BILL” SHAMBLIN, age 80, of Highway #337-Summerville, Georgia, Teloga Community, passed away Monday afternoon at his residence following an extended illness, he was born on April 23, 1930, a son of the late Luther A. and Georgia Carver Shamblin. He was preceded in death by brothers Mack A., James L., Guy A., Robert L., and Charles C. Shamblin and sister Annie M. Shamblin. Mr. Shamblin was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church, where he served as Trustee, and an ordained Elder. He was presented the honor of Elder Emeritus. He organized a Boy Scout Troop in the Teloga Community and served as Scout Master for a number of years. He retired from Mount Vernon Mills, Trion, GA in 1995.

Surviving are His wife of 60 years Ruby Jo Keen Shamblin; son and daughter-in-law William Douglas and Keitha Cash Shamblin, Sr. Grandchildren and spouses, Tonya R. and Kevin Woods, and William Douglas and Beverly Shamblin, Jr.; Great Grandchildren: Brianna, Billy and Ben Woods.

MS. MARTHA SUE HENSLEY, age 72, of Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 23, 2011, in a Rome hospital. A daughter of the late Sam and Lois Golden Westbrook, Ms. Hensley was born September 10, 1938, was Baptist by faith and retired from Mohawk Industries and Walmart. Ms. Hensley was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas Westbrook and Freddie Westbrook.

Survivors include one Son and Daughter-in-law, David and Doris Wilson of Menlo; Two Brothers, Dartey Westbrook of Trion, and Phillip Westbrook of Armuchee. A native Chattooga Countian She was born to the late Roy and Ethel Roberts Burke on April 22, 1928. Ms. Wilma was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ, was retired clerk for Golden Gallon, and was preceded in death by husbands Ray Lively and Ed Bryant, son-Jack Lively, sister-Daisy Ellenburg, and stepson-David Hunter.

A native of Chattooga County, Georgia He was born on July 29, 1955, and was the only child of the late Ralph W. and Ada Margaret Duff Elrod. Mr. Elrod was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia and a real estate agent for the ERA Sunrise Group.

Mr. Wooten attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Best Mfg. Company, Finishing Department. MR. JIMMY C. “BIG JIM” STRICKLIN, SR., age 69, of Wild Life Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning, February 24, 2011, in a Rome hospital. Mr. Stricklin was born January 3, 1942 in Savannah, Tennessee, a son of the late Sam C. and Frances Wisdom Stricklin. He was owner and operator of Jim’s Used Cars and was Baptist by faith. Besides his parents, Mr. Stricklin was preceded in death by three brothers- William Dewey Stricklin, Sammy J. Stricklin, Sr. and Grant J. Stricklin.

Surviving are his wife Janice Stricklin, two daughters- Jami Stricklin and Josette Stricklin Radford both of Summerville; Three sons and daughter-in-law- Jimmy C. Stricklin, Jr. of Summerville; Jonathan and Tonya Stricklin of Rock Spring, GA,; and Jason Stricklin of Summerville. Two Sisters- Molly Ragan and Shirley Willingham both of Summerville. MR. EVAN DEFORREST BOWMAN, age 82, of Whitley Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, evening at his residence. He was born on October 7, 1928 in Chattooga County, Georgia, a son of the late Robert Loren Bowman, Sr. and Mildred Foye Powell Bowman,. Mr. Bowman enjoyed Golf, played in the Textile League Softball, and for several years coached Little League Baseball. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Marines, and was retired District Accounting Supervisor for Georgia Power Company. Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his brother the late Robert L. Bowman, Jr. on October 9, 2010.

Born in Americus, Georgia on September 1, 1918 He was the son of the late John Thornton Stubbs, Sr. and Ann McWhorter Stubbs. Mr. Stubbs was an elder and member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church, graduated from Presbyterian College, was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army, and worked for the U.S. Postal Service serving as Summerville Post Master for thirty four years. He was preceded in death by his wife the late Jean Thomas Stubbs.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law-Ann Stubbs Maddux (Dennis) of Summerville; sons and daughter-in-law-Tom Stubbs of Woodstock and John Thornton Stubbs, III (Dawn) of Summerville; grandson-John Thomas Maddux of Summerville.

MRS. LUCILLE E. MANN, age 89, of Roberts Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday (December 22, 2010) night in the local nursing home. She was born in Packlett, S.C. on December 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Fred Reynolds. Mrs. Mann was a member of Teloga Baptist Church, was retired from the weave shop of Mt. Vernon Mills, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Arthur Mann.

Surviving are 2 sons-Larry Mann of Summerville and Wilson Mann of Trion; nine Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Graveside service will be held Sunday (December 26th) at 1:30 P.M. from Greenhills Memory Garden with Darwin Blansit officiating. Active Pallbearers Eric Mann, Casey Mann, Randy Burrage, Jason Burrage, Chris Burrage, and Joseph Burrage. The Family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

MRS. NELL M. MORRISON, age 91, of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Monday (December 20, 2010) night at the residence of a daughter in Chatsworth. A native of DeKalb County, Alabama She was born to the late John and Mary Holmes Keef on February 4,1919. Mrs. Morrison was a member of West Berryton Faith Temple and a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Hollis Morrison in 1983, sisters-the late Jo Kirby and Juanita Porter, brothers-the late Jess Keef, Tom Keef, and John B. Keef.

Surviving are daughters-Virginia Mobbs of Goose Creek, S.C. and Betty Bagley of Chatsworth; Grandchildren- Greg Echols, Terri Young, Dan Mobbs, Alana Collette and James Mobbs. Eleven Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Granddaughter, several Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (December 23rd) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann and Rev. James Stephens officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

MRS. ADA MARGARET ELROD, age 81, of Farrar Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, December 20, 2010, afternoon in a Rome hospital following an extended illness. Born on September 14, 1929 She was a daughter of the late James Alexander and Anna Hammer Duff. Mrs. Elrod was retired from the Georgia Rug Mill, a member of First Presbyterian Church, PCA, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Ralph W. Elrod on November 21, 1981 and a brother the late Jimmy W. Duff, Jr. on September 14, 2010.

Surviving are son-William D. & Martha Elrod of Fayetteville; sister-Jean & Wales Goebel of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren-Kimber Elrod of Jasper, Brandon Elrod of Summerville & fiance’ Erin White of Rome.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. from the First Presbyterian Church, PCA with Rev. Greg King and Rev. Wales Goebel, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mike Goebel, Steve Goebel, Stan Goebel, Jim Bagley, Ricky Stinson, and Wayne Ashley. The Family will receive friends Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, PCA from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service.
