MRS. MAUGHEE WILSON EVANS, age 85, of Pine Street, Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning, October 26, 2011, in a Rome hospital. Born in Jackson County Alabama on July 7, 1926, she was a daughter of the late James Aubrey, Sr. and Lina Ada Eva Gibson Wilson. Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and bookkeeper, a member of Pennville First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Billy Brice Evans on February 6, 2008, siblings: Ewart Quinton Wilson,Sr., James Aubrey Wilson, Jr., Lorenzo “Pete” Wilson and Claudine Fowler. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Cindy Evans of Trion and Rev. Tim and Dale Evans of Birmingham, AL; Grandchildren- Lauren Evans of Nashville, TN; Leigh Ann Evans of Auburn, AL; Kristen Evans of Columbia, S.C.; Marlie Payne of Trion; Zackary Brice Evans of Birmingham, Al; Katie Evans of Auburn, AL; two sisters- Montez Gladney and Joan Renslow, and a brother Charles B. MR. OTIS SHIVER, age 87, of Ridgewood Circle-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, October 24, 2011, in the local nursing home. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 7, 1924, a son of the late Jesse C. and Allie Mae- Williams Shiver. Mr. Shiver was a WW II Veteran serving in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers in the Philippians and New Guinea; also was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #129 and V.F.W. Post #6688. He was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and retired from retail sales. Surviving are wife Marion Shiver; sons and daughter-in-law-Nelson Shiver of Atlanta and Farrell & Kay Willingham Shiver of Woodstock; granddaughter-Sarah Shiver; sisters-Edna Helton of Summerville and Linda Green of Lyerly; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. MRS. FAYE WAITS OZMENT, age 76, of Rockmart, formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Rockmart, Georgia following an extended illness. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Stanley and Effie Coker Waits. Mrs. Ozment was retired from the Sample Department of Mohawk Industries and a member of Four Mile Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, the late Billy Joe Ozment on January 4, 2003, a son, the late Terry Ozment on January 21, 2005, and a sister the late Carol Baker. Surviving are son-Joel Ozment of Rockmart; sisters-Eddie Tinney of Rome, Ruth Howell of Summerville, and Edith McGraw of Cedartown; brother-Dudley Waits of Rockmart; Five Grandchildren, Seven Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. MR. ERNEST LEE JACKSON, age 80, of Harrisburg Road (Teloga Community) Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday , October 8, 2011, evening at his residence. He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on February 27, 1931, a son of the late Rufus and Velma Simmons Jackson. Mr. Jackson was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years serving during Korea and Viet Nam and retired from Roper Corporation after 21 plus years of service. He was a member of the Beersheba Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Joyce Elaine Jackson on July 1, 2011. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 10, 1955, She was a daughter of the late Troy Lawrence and Mary Elaine Cantrell Hodges. MRS. BRENDA KAY KELLETT, age 71, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2011, in a Rome hospital. A native Chattooga Countian she was born to the late Daniel J. and Katie Floyd Grimes on May 26, 1940. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Guy Earl Kellett, Sr. on September 24, 1992 and siblings Janet Shull, Billy Grimes, and Randy Grimes. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law-Beth Kellett of Rome, Tina (Bryan) Sitton of Rome, Sandra (Ralph) Wilson of Summerville, and Mary Ann McDonald of Alabama; son and daughter-in-law-Dr. Earl (Teresa) Kellett, Jr. of Rome; sister-Roxie Jones of Ft. A native of Chattooga County, She was born on April 13, 1931 to the late Charles E. and Grace Jackson Massey. Mrs. Martinez was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a son the late Billy Gentry on April 29, 2001, and brothers-the late Leroy Massey, Robert Massey, Pat Massey, and J.D. Massey. Surviving husband-John Martinez; daughters-Carolyn Gentry and Anna Gentry; son-Donnie Gentry all of Rome; sister-Frances Seymore of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. MRS. JIMMIE FRANCES FOWLER, age 84, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning (August 31, 2011) in the local nursing home. A Daughter of the late Frank and Della Wofford Wooten, she was born July 11, 1927 in Chattooga County. Mrs. Fowler was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband the late Charlie Lee Fowler.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Lee & Martha Fowler of Summerville. Grandchildren- Karen Fowler Adams, Keitha Fowler Zuniga and Tim. Brother and sister-in-law Alfred & Virginia Wooten of Tacoma, WA; Great Grandchildren- Kendal Zuniga and Lucas Adams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Sam Bible, age 88, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away August 30, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Summerville, only 3 weeks away from his 89th birthday. Mr. Bible was born in Estill Springs, Tennessee, in 1922 to George C. Bible and Eliza Martin Bible. His spent his early life in Winchester, Tennessee, where he attended school, was king of the Crimson Clover Festival, and owned a farm and feed store. He met his wife Willie Swafford Bible in Winchester, where she was a home extension agent.

Mr. Bible and his late brother, George W. Bible, owned and operated Mountain Cove Farms in Kensington, Georgia for many years. After selling the farm, Mr. Bible worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock Life, and was also a builder and an inventor. He was very active in the Summerville First United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He was also active in the local Chattooga County Democratic Party.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Kathy Bible Mullen and Peter Mullen of Tallahassee, Florida and grandson Dr. Matthew Mullen of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are sister-in-law Mary Hembree of Knoxville, Tennessee, cousins Martha Bible Wade of The Villages, Florida and Margaret Montgomery Mefford of Brentwood, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bible was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, George W. Bible, and his wife, Willie S. Bible.

A memorial service will be held 11 A.M. (EST)Sat., Sept. 10, from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Pinson officiating. MRS. ESSIE BROWN GRIGSBY, age 89, of Sloppy Floyd Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia, Wayside Community, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2011)evening at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, She was born to the late John L. and Venice Dodd Brown on October 14, 1921. Mrs. Grigsby was a Charter member of Wayside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and led singing. She was a Summerville High School Graduate where she played basketball; was preceded in death by her husband the late Fay Grigsby in 1978, brothers-David and Pete Brown, sisters-Inez Bramlett and Frances Perrin, and a grandson-Jason Howell.

Surviving are daughter & son-in-law-Phyllis Trena and Gary Howell of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Morris and Jo Grigsby of Acworth; grandchildren-Lane Grigsby, Justin Howell, and Miranda Morgan; great grandchildren-Gavin Morgan, Alexis Morgan, Brodie Morgan, Alyssa Katelyn Morgan, Steven Grigsby & Jacob Grigsby; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

DR. JACK REEVES MEACHAM, age 78, prominent Summerville, Georgia physician passed away Wednesday (August 17, 2011) in a Rome hospital. Born in Roanoke, Alabama on March 29, 1933, He was a son of the late William Curtis and Mattie Lou Reeves Meacham. A long-standing member of Summerville First Baptist Church, He served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. Dr. Meacham enjoyed music, singing, reading, teaching, Bible study, sang in quartet, and in Acapella Choir in college. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1950, earning his BS degree in Biology from Carson-Newman College and taught at Trion High School in 1956., then entered the Medical College of Georgia in 1958 and earned his M.D. in 1962, interning at Floyd County Hospital. From 1963 til 1968 was in General Practice in Chatsworth, Georgia, and 1968 until 2001 Family Practice in Summerville. Dr. Meacham was PFC in the U.S. Army during Korea serving as medical corpsman and x-ray technician. In 1954 married Lillie Jane Stephenson who preceded Him in death in 2000. The Family publicly thanks North Georgia Home Health, Arbutus Personal Care Home, ICU & CCU nurses in Redmond M.C., Specialty Hospital Personnel, and all the wonderful physicians and medical staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd Medical Center, and the Specialty Hospital.

MRS. ANITA RUBY DICKERSON, age 88, of University Circle-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, evening in a Rome hospital. A Missouri native She was born on January 28, 1923 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Blankenship Oelsen. Mrs. Dickerson was owner/operator of a grocery store and restaurant; had resided in Arkansas and Chicago, Illinois moving to Chattooga County, Georgia a few years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Bill J. Dickerson in 1985.

Surviving are Her daughter & spouse-Joyce & Charles Owens of Summerville; grandson-Michael E. Owens of Summerville; sisters & spouses-Olga & Jim Tiller of St. Louis, Mo. And Irene & Jay Neier of Memphis, Tn.; special friends-Geneva Morgan, Margaret Armstrong, and Cleo Conway; several Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. Betty Ann Tucker, age 71, of Denson Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia She was born to the late Russell and Myrtis Adams Lowry on January 22, 1940. Mrs. Tucker was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and was retired from the Lab at Mt. Vernon Mills and was also a cashier for Pay-N-Tote convenience store. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Harold Fred Tucker, Sr. on December 4, 2003, and siblings Mary Jo Treadaway, Jackie Mills, Harman Lowry, and Floyd Lowry.

Surviving are daughters-Lynne Tahamtan of Atlanta and Tammy Brown of Trion; sons-Harold Tucker, Jr. of Summerville and Rusty Tucker of Trion; grandchildren-Mandy Bennett-Lanham, Mack Burton, Drew Tucker, and Trey Tucker; sisters-Jeannie Henderson of Trion and Nancy Lowry of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Affectionately known as Ms. Helen, she was a member of the Chapel Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church, was retired from retail sales from K-Mart and Walmart, and was preceded by husbands the late Rev. W. H. Dean and the late Rev. Harley Reynolds; she was also predeceased by children-Sonny Dean, Jerry Dean, and Betty Norton, and siblings-Frances Maxey, Mattie Ruth Hickey, and Richard Garmany.

She was born on March 12, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Fred and Geneva Armstrong Powell. Mrs. Groce was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church, was retired secretary from Mann Mfg. Company, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Wayne Groce, brother-Earl Powell, 3 sisters-Tressie Drikard, Aileen Byram, and her twin-Maggie Powell.

Mrs. Molee “Mo” Hawkins, age 78, of Summerville, GA passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 in a Rome Hospital. She was born June 17, 1933 in Valley Head, Alabama, a daughter of the late Joel Brooks and Mae Atkins Clark. She was a Retail Sales Clerk and member of South Summerville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby F. Hawkins, Daughter and Son-in-law Leah and Darrell Skinner, Jr. of Summerville; Sons- Terry Q. Lewis of Buxton, N. C. and Scotty Lewis of Summerville. Grandchildren- Chalee’ Skinner, Trent Skinner, Chris Lewis. Great Grandchildren- Halle Chalee’ Lively. Special Friend Gary Floyd.

Funeral services will be Wednesday evening, July 6, at 8:00 P. M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor David Craven, Pastor Jimmy Bryant, Pastor Kenneth Summey, Pastor Joel Smith and Mr. Gary Floyd officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Anthony Bryant, Carlton Reynolds, Stan Reynolds, Phil McGuire, Arnold Kilgo, Mike Simpson, O. W. Carpenter and Windell Carver. MR. C. D. “TINY” LONG, JR., age 67, of Hammond Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011. Born in Cartersville, Georgia on November 16, 1943, He was the son of the late Charles Daniel Long Sr. and Frances Louise Howell Long. Mr. Long was a member of Harrell Street Church of God of Union Assembly. A Minister of the Gospel, He had taught heating/air conditioning and electrical at Northwestern Technical College, and was a member of Trion Lodge #160 F & AM. He was preceded in death by a son, the late Glenn Hester.

Surviving are wife-Judy Long; daughters-Gevetta Samples, Melissa Hamilton, and Retta Howard all of Summerville; sons-Danny Hester of Trion, Charles Daniel Long, III and LeBron Long both of Summerville; Grandchildren-Jodi, Charletta, D.J., Tanner, Morgan, Aaron, Sam, Natalie, Donovan, Hannah, Alyssa.

JACKSON, MRS. JOYCE ELAINE

MRS. JOYCE ELAINE JACKSON, age 79, of Harrisburg Road - Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 1st, 2011, at her home. She was born in Denver, Colorado on April 3rd, 1932, a daughter of the late Emile T. and Thelma Madison Gourdin. Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a local artist and craft person.

Surviving are her husband Ernest Lee Jackson, daughters Cristy & Danny Blackwell and Elaine & Richard Stowe all of Summerville, a son Jerry & Sue Jackson of Lander, Wyoming , Grandchildren Justin Stowe, Morgan Stowe and Adam Blackwell and Great Grandchildren, Jaxon Stowe, Claire Stowe, Peyton Stanton and Blayke Stanton.

Funeral services are Sunday, July 3rd, at 3:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. MR. EDWARD LEE TUDOR, age 66, of Dry Creek Road-Summerville, Georgia was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24, 2011. Born on December 26, 1944 He was a son of the late E. A. and Frances Cathleen Townsell Tudor. Mr. Tudor served in the United States Army earning the rank of SP4 as an MP, serving in Vietnam 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo) in Huntsville, AL. Before retirement Mr. Tudor was plant manager at Riyadi, Saudi Arabia for 7 years, and most recently worked with Mt. Vernon Mills in the dyeing department.

Precious memories will live on with His wife, Carolina Dingal Tudor; children & spouses, son-Stacey & Julie Tudor; daughters-Lisa & Craig Sanford, Leigh Ann & Nick Smith, and Raechelle Tudor; grandchildren-Garrett Tudor, Austin Long, Whitney Sanford, Ansley Smith, Breanna Fletcher, & Coleson Smith; sisters & spouses-Patricia & Roger Dawson and Rose & Greg Espy; all Family & Friends.

A celebration of His life will be held Monday, June 27th, at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Salvador Cayabyab and Rev. David Romine officiating, interment in Fisher’s Chapel Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Sunday at the Funeral Home from 6 until 9 P.M.
