REECE

MRS. LINDA RUTH REECE, age 81, of Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday afternoon, November 18, 2022, in a Rome hospital, following a sudden illness. She was born on March 6, 1941 in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Wayne Howard and Verna Viola Fannin Blake. Linda was an exceptional business woman, having started a variety of successful businesses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert Lee “Sonny” Reece on December 2, 2021, sisters, Martha Cooper and Wanda Edwards, and an Infant Brother.

Surviving are daughter, Marty and Jimmy Lowery; son, Robert B. and Susan Reece; grandchildren, Cory (Jessica) Reece and Mackenzie Reece; great grandson, Easton Reece; great granddaughter, Brylee Reece; sister, Janette Chadwick; several Nieces and Nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, November 22nd, at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Gary Howell officiating, from United Christian Fellowship, on Highway #114 in Summerville, inurnment in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Adamsburg, Alabama, following the service. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Church. The Family request no flowers or food, and suggest contributions to United Christian Fellowship.

MRS. FAYE CASH, age 70, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at her residence following an illness. Faye was born on May 15, 1952 in Trion, Georgia to the late Bob and Faye Nell McDowell. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from the District Attorney’s Office after many years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Twin sister and brother-in-law, Kaye and Jimmy Don Angles and brother, the late Bobby McDowell.

Surviving are husband, Andy Cash; daughter, Andrea Cash.

Funeral service and interment service will be held Wednesday, November 23rd, at 2:00 p.m.. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery.

McCLESKEY


MR. CARL MANNING McCLESKEY, age 86, passed away on November 15, 2022, at his Georgia residence. He was a well-known sculptor in wildlife subjects. His Work is enjoyed in private and public collections worldwide.

Traveling the creative path as a Blacksmith, Cartoonist, Painter, and Sculptor, Carl was an inspiration to many. He and his wife Betsy spent many rewarding years creating award-winning sculpture in their secluded studio, or at, as Carl liked to say, “The house that lions built” on Lookout Mountain, in Cloudland, Georgia. Their latest collaboration, “Sequoyah” may be seen at the Mentone Arts Center in Mentone, Alabama.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ford and Annabelle Harwell-McCleskey, his sister, Dianne Mayhew, and his son, Eric.

He is survived by his wife Betsy Scott, his son, Brian McCleskey, Brian’s wife, Susan Soto, grandchildren, Chelsey McCleskey, Travis McCleskey and Travis’s wife, Hayley, and one great grandchild, Finn McCleskey.

Father, Grandfather, Husband, friend to many, Carl McCleskey will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Life gathering will take place in the Spring of 2023.

LAURA BEATRICE FLETCHER WOODS, age 81, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at her residence.  She was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 21, 1941, a daughter of the late Elbert Emmett and Ollie Camelia Roberts Fletcher.  Ms. Laura was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, retired from the Weave Shop of Mount Vernon Mills and was preceded in death by a son, the late Barry Joseph Woods on May 3, 2022.

Surviving are Son, Gary and Melanie Woods; Grandchildren, Bryan McWhorter, Haley Woods, Jim Bo Woods, Rose Woods, Lauren Woods, and Matthew Woods; Great Grandchildren, Gage McWhorter and Gunnar McWhorter; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 9th, at 3:00 p.m. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dewayne Teague officiating. MRS. JUDY LOU STANSELL JENKINS, age 65, of Long Hollow Road, Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, in a Rome hospital following a brief illness. Judy was born in Menlo, Georgia on December 16, 1956 to the late John and Gussie M. Pettyjohn Stansell. She was a personal care assistant, having helped many people in this area and was active in the Tri State Relic Recovery Association.

Surviving are husband, John Jenkins; daughter, Crissy (Wolfgang) Geiger; sister, Debbie (Gene) Smith; brother, Randall (Drema) Spears; step children, Lynn (Steve) Bates and Adam Jenkins; Four Grandchildren, One Great Grandchild; niece and nephew, Missy (Mark) Hogan and Randy (Jill) Spears; several Great Nieces and Great Nephews also survive,

MRS. CAROLYN A. SPRAGGINS, age 79, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in a Rome Hospital. She was born in Trion, Georgia on February 21, 1943 a daughter of the late Johnnie and Gladys Searles Ivey. Mrs. Spraggins was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church, was retired from Best Manufacturing Company Sewing Department, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles W. Spraggins on December 9, 2014.

Surviving are daughter, Penny and Pat Headrick; son, Chad and Tara Spraggins; grandchildren, Ryan Headrick, Whitney and Wesley Dobbins, Sierra Campbell, and Jacob Spraggins; great grandchildren Ruby Dobbins and Rory Dobbins; sisters, Jane and Mike Floyd and Debbie and Arnold Kilgo; brothers, Dennis and Joan Ivey, Steve and Yvonne Ivey; special friend, John William Thomas; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

MRS. CAROLYN HOWELL DODD, age 78, of Red Leaf Lane, Summerville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her residence Tuesday, October 25, 2022. A native of Trion, She was born on February 22, 1944 to the late Earl and Bonnie Tidmore Howell. Carolyn was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church and prior to retirement was payroll clerk for Mount Vernon Mills.

Surviving are Her husband, Malcolm Dodd; sons, David and Darlene Lloyd, Wayne Lloyd and Cristy Blair, Barry and Ernie Dodd, Scott and Natalie Dodd; Eleven Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 27th, at 6:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. Doyle Kelley officiating. MR. CARL MARION HYDE, JR., age 89, formerly of Dunwoody, Georgia, moved to Summerville after the passing of his wife, Ann, in 2020; passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, He was born on May 28, 1933 to the late Carl Marion Hyde, Sr. and Ruby Mavity Hyde. Mr. Hyde was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Navy and member of Loganville American Legion Post #0233; later operated his own Insurance Agency for Nationwide Insurance. He was a Master Mason for 60 years and member of Chamblee-Sardis Lodge #444, F & A M, was a Shriner and member of Yaarab Shrine Temple, also a Wall of Fame Member of Yaarab Shrine. Mr. Hyde was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church of Dunwoody and was preceded in death by his wife the late Ann Wigley Hyde. A special THANK YOU, to the staff and residents of Brookdale Senior Living , in Rome, for their love and care during the past seventeen months.

Surviving are daughter, Teresa Hyde Groce (Don); son, Richard Lee Hyde; sisters-in-law, Cindy Bennett Hyde and Sally Hyde; grandchildren, Brad Groce (Kari), Natalie Williams (Jacob), Spencer Hyde, Jared Groce (Rachel), and Nathan Hyde (Cassandra); Ten Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

BALDWIN

MR. MAX RUSSELL BALDWIN, Sr., age 85, of Dry Valley Church Road Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday August 25th, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 5, 1937, son of the late Archie R. and Annie Ruth Baines Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin retired in 1980 as a Major in the United States Army serving in Vietnam two terms and achieved Master Senior Aviator. He was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, the late Gracie Ruth Hall.

Surviving are his loving Wife, Peggy Shamblin Baldwin; Daughter, Virginia Ruth Baldwin; Sons, Max Russell Baldwin II and Patrick S. Baldwin, M.D.; Grandchildren, Cassidy Shea Baldwin, M.D, Dylan Shamblin Baldwin, Catlin Rae Meredith, Max Edwin Kohl, James Ryan Kohl and Islay Ruth Kohl.

Entombment service will be held on Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, at 2:30 P.M. in Greenhills Memory Garden, with Military honors rendered by American Legion Post #5 Shanklin-Attaway Honor Guard.

MRS. VERNICE HAWKINS STONER, age 98, of Hickory Withe, Tennessee, formerly of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, she was born on January 26, 1924 to the late Roy Z. and Charlsey Elizabeth (Lizzie) Owens Hawkins of Little Sand Mountain, Georgia. Mrs. Stoner was a member of Pennville First Baptist Church and was retired from the packing department of Mount Vernon Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Melvin (PJ) Stoner; siblings the late J. R. Hawkins, J. V. “Shorty” Hawkins, William R. (Bill) Hawkins, Leon Hawkins, Bobby F. Hawkins and Carlton A. Hawkins.

Survivors include Son and daughter-in-law, Dr. M. Tod Stoner (Lynne); Grandchildren, Capt. Benjamin T (Kara) Stoner (USMC), Michael A. Stoner, Christopher N. (Leanne) Stoner, Maxwell J. (Valerie) Stoner, Hannah E. Stoner, Rebekah L. Stoner (Caleb) Coquat, Mary Catherine Stoner, and Daniel N. MRS. SUSIE MAE CRAIG EDGEWORTH, age 78, of Susie Lane, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at her residence.  A native of Chattooga County, she was born to the late Dillard and Daisy Hawkins Craig on October 8, 1943.  She was a member of Community Holiness Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the late Rev. Paul L. Edgeworth, daughter, the late Paula Gene Edgeworth, siblings, the late Tommy Craig, Johnny Craig, and Barbara Gene Craig.

 

            Surviving are daughters and spouses, Janice Marmet (Tony Prater), Patricia Corey (Bryon), Debbie Nance (Paul), and Jaycea Edgeworth; grandchildren, John Marmet, Jennifer Marmet, Nicole Corey, Joie Nance, Michael Marmet, Dakota Lively,  Jessie Savory, & Kourtney Marmet; great grandchildren, Memphis Marmet, Caleb “Boo” Bentley, Ryan Marmet, William Marmet, & Brody Marmet; brothers, R. SHIVER

MR. OTIS NELSON SHIVER, age 72, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, at his residence following a brief illness. Nelson was born in Trion, Georgia on November 12, 1949, a son of the late Otis and Marion Nelson Shiver. He was an educator, having taught School and coached girls basketball in the Chattooga County School system, later served as special needs Administrator for the Calhoun School system. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, the late Edna Shiver Helton (Buck) and uncle, the late Charles Nelson (Helen).

Surviving are brother, Farrell Shiver (Key); niece, Sarah Shiver; aunt, Linda Shiver Green (Alan).

In accordance with Mr. Nelson’s wishes, the body was cremated.

TINNEY

MRS. MARLENE TINNEY, age 82, of Allen Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Trion, Georgia on December 21, 1939 to the late Wilburn Cleo and Lucille Mildred Donald Dolquery. Mrs. Tinney was Baptist by Faith and attended the New Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class, directed Bible School several times, and helped with the Christmas play. She also served as pianist at the Frog Pond Baptist Church in earlier years. Mrs. Tinney worked for the Chattooga County Tax office for 35 years, retiring in 2013. She enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, and working puzzles in free time. In addition to Parents was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Sonny Tinney.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda (Dale) Bain and Phyllis (Mike) Odom; grandchildren, Bucky (Carla) Chisolm, Melissa (Paul) Chamlee, Chris Bain, and Kevin Bain; 10 great grandchildren, Lexi Craig, Kayleigh Byars, Jaci Cleveland, Avri Chamlee, Addi Belle Chamlee, Layton Chisolm, Harper Anne Chisolm, Ren Chamlee, Adalee Bain, and Scout Chisolm; several Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. SAMANTHA TAYLOR HUNTER, age 27, of Jamestown Road, Menlo, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 2, 2022, in a Rome hospital. , a daughter of Stacy Laney and Scott Dial. Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by grandparents and great grandparents, Charlie & Rachel Laney, Opal Molock, Deborah Fincher, Fred Hunter and Medford Gass, and uncles Walley Laney and Junior Laney.

MR. DANNY EDWARD SCOTT, JR., age 46, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in a Marietta hospital. Born in Great Lakes, Ill. on February 9, 1976, a son of Teresa Norton Scott and Danny Edward Scott, Sr., both surviving. Mr. Scott was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church and an auto parts deliveryman.

MRS. BURMAH NELL GREEN, age 77, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, September 3, 2022, at her residence. Mrs. Green was born on April 22, 1945 to the late Roscoe and Derotha Tommie McClung. She was a member and Elder of the Cloudland Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. Burmah enjoyed walking, sewing, crafting and was active in the Cloudland Yoga and Mentone Knitting Class. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a brother, the late Carlton McClung.

Surviving are Her loving husband of 57 years, Phil Green; daughter, Angie Pritchett (Jackie); granddaughter, Lindsey Hankins (Brian); great grandchildren, Reese Willingham, Kristen Hankins, Colton Hankins.

MS. FRANCES M. PALMOUR, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning September 3, 2022,  in the local nursing center.  A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born on February 19, 1930 to the late Samuel Grady Palmour, Sr. and Georgia Alice Weaver Palmour.   Ms. Palmour was a Charter Member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship  and was retired school teacher for the Chattooga County and Trion City School systems.  In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a sister, the late Maxine Palmour.

 

            Surviving are brothers, Grady and Ann Palmour and Jimmy and Judy Palmour; niece, Georgianna Palmour; nephews, Jay and Beth Palmour, Christopher Ward, and Mack Palmour.

 

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery at Trion, with Rev. MRS. ELIZABETH R. WILLIAMSON, age 93, of Espy Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Rustin, LA. on June 14, 1929, to the late Hubert and Irma Thacker Rogers. Mrs. Williamson was a retired Special Needs Nurse; in addition to Parents was preceded in death by her husband, the late Earl Williamson, a son the late William Bruce Taylor, and sister and brother-in-law, the late Trudy and Jim Ellett.

Surviving are Her sons, Russell Keith Taylor and Thomas Michael Taylor; several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, one Niece and one Nephew.

At Mrs. Williamson’s request she was cremated; a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Baldwin retired in 1980 as a Major of the United States Army serving in Vietnam two terms and achieved Master Senior Aviator. He was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, the late Gracie Ruth Hall.

Surviving are his loving Wife, Peggy Shamblin Baldwin; Daughter, Virginia Ruth Baldwin; Sons, Max Russell Baldwin II and Patrick S. Baldwin, M.D.; Grandchildren, Cassidy Shea Baldwin, M.D, Dylan Shamblin Baldwin, Catlin Rae Meredith, Max Edwin Kohl, James Ryan Kohl and Islay Ruth Kohl.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2022 from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Woods and Mr. John Shamblin officiating. Entombment will be at a later date. Pallbearers will be Lee Wilcox, Jeff Mitchell, Dylan Baldwin, Mark Woods, Terry Payne, and John Meredith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee and Caroline Meranic, John and Glendia Liddle, Ted and Gayle Goss, Debra Piper, Sue Bridges, Kevin and Betsy Hayes, Connie and Terry Payne, Pam and Spenser Hogg, Peggy and Harold Boyd, Joy and Dewayne Hampton, Libby and Mikey Worthington, Dr. Jeffery Blackmon, Jimmy Barron, Lisa and Buddy Hill, and Teresa Compton. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

WHITE

MRS. JANICE LEE (PATSY) WHITE, age 75, of Red Bird Lane, Summerville, Georgia, Teloga Community, passed away Sunday evening at her residence, following an extended illness. Born in North Carolina on April 25, 1947, She was a daughter of the late Raymond Deforest (Boog) Kirby and Josie Elizabeth Keef (Jo) Kirby. Mrs. White was former Director of Nutrition at Kennestone Hospital and a member of the Teloga Baptist Church. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by Her husband, the late Noland Dewayne White on July 4, 2021, and brothers, the late Steve Kirby and Michael Kirby.

Surviving are son, Jaylen White; sister-Linda (Bill) Powell; special friends and caregivers, Diane Venable, Vickie and Gene Brown, Peggy Mitchell, and Brandon Gurley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. from the Teloga Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Weaver officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Steve Rinehart, Johnny Gentry, Gene Brown, Ted Deberry, Gene Ellenburg, and Brandon Gurley. Honorary Pallbearers are the Ladies of Teloga Baptist Church and Arti Cherry, and Peggy Mitchell; special friends and caregivers Diane Venable, Vickie and Gene Brown, (Best Friend Ever) Kathy Gentry, Peggy Mitchell, and Brandon Gurley. The Family will receive friends Wednesday at the Teloga Baptist Church from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
