Joan Elizabeth Selman was born on August 6, 1953 in Rome, Georgia to James and Glenda Barton Selman. Joan was a 1971 graduate of Armuchee High School. She married DeJuan Jarrett in March 24, 1972 and moved to the Jarrett Farm in Summerville. She attended Berry College and obtained a degree in Elementary Education. She completed 32 years of teaching and retired in 2006 from Chattooga County Schools. She attended Summerville First United Methodist Church and was a member of Armuchee Baptist Church.
Joan spent her free time taking care of her family and friends and volunteering at her church. She was a devoted wife, Mama and Nana. When her children Lauren and Ryan were growing up, she spent her weekends, summers and holidays on the rodeo trail. She enjoyed also cooking and serving others. As a dairy farmer’s wife, she took special care of DeJuan. She loved to travel. Being Nana to Jurnee Rae was the highlight of her life for the last four years. She loved to tell Jurnee stories to her friends and family. Joan was so proud of Lauren and her accomplishments as an Agriculture Education Teacher in Chattooga County and of Ryan and his rodeo accomplishments. She was a devoted daughter and friend was even nicknamed by a special friend in Texas as “Nanny 911”.
Joan leaves behind her husband DeJuan and her daughter Lauren, both of Summerville, her son Ryan and his wife ShyAnne of Comanche, Oklahoma, and granddaughter, Jurnee Rae. She also leaves her mother Glenda Selman of Rome and her brother Steve Selman and his wife Sharon of Armuchee, aunt and uncle Delores and Ron Nance, in-laws Mike and Kathy Jarrett of Summerville, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of sweet friends. She was preceded in death by her father James Crawford Selman and grandparents Thomas Spurgeon Selman and Elise Crawford Selman and Thomas Leonard Barton and Idell Miller Barton.

Mrs. Barkley was a lifelong resident of Summerville until 2017 when she moved to Jasper to be with her son. She was born August 23, 1925 in Summerville, Georgia to the late John Samuel Johnson and the late Ruth May Blalock. She was a true Prayer Warrior and member of the Summerville First Baptist Church where she taught a Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. She retired in 1985 after 25 years of service from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Chattooga ASCS Office where she worked closely with the farmers of Chattooga County. In 2019, she became a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Robert “Bob” Barkley, Sr., (a decorated WWII Combat Veteran) and three Brothers, J.S. Johnson, Jr., Harold Johnson, and Arnold Johnson.
Surviving are her Son and very special Daughter in law, Robert “Robby” Barkley, Jr. & Mary Barkley; Two Grandsons, Paul Barkley (III) and Brandon Barkley, Three Great Granddaughters Dannin Rose Barkley, Liliana Barkley & Olivia Laurel Barkley. Several Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, February 20th, 2023 at the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Mason and Rev. Barry Peppers officiating. MR. William G. (BILL) DAVIDSON, age 92, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Mr. Davidson was born in Maysville, Georgia to the late Paul and Mahuldah Wilson Davidson, on December 14, 1939. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, was a Veteran of Korea, serving in the U. S. Air Force, was a businessman for many years in the Atlanta area. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Teddy, and Robert Davidson.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbye Jo Davidson; son, Michael Davidson; brother in law Doug (Beth) Wilson; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.

MRS. MARTHA BARTLETT GAINES, age 86, of Back Berryton Road, entered her Heavenly home Monday, February 6, 2023 at her residence. She was born August 12, 1936 in Chattoogaville, Georgia, daughter of the late Ellon Carr Bartlett and James Alfred Bartlett. She was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church. After raising her children, she was employed by Century Glove Company and later by Mount Vernon Mills before her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Joe B. Gaines whom she married July 2, 1953; brothers, Wesley, Roland, Gordon, Bill, James, and Dennis Bartlett, J.T. and Jim McAteer; sisters, infant, Barbara Lee Bartlett, Winola Brown, Ola Copeland, Lena Mae Nations, Mildred Gilreath, Bell Atkins, Sybil Hayes and Christine Bohannon and also great, great granddaughter, Joselyn Phibbs, and special friend, Helen Dean Reynolds.
Martha loved the Lord. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and always trusted in Him through all her difficulties. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother helping to raise and take care of all her children. She always has Sunday dinner all the way back to the beginning of her marriage when family would come to visit. After retirement, she began quilting, making numerous, all handmade, quilts for all her family. She never believed in being idle, work was the name of the game.
Survivors include her children, James Patrick (Pat) and Karen Gaines and Brenda Gail and Nelson Lee Wilson; grandchildren, Ethan Gaines, Cynthia and Nick Swords, April and Derek Adams; great grandchildren, Dylan and Levi Adams, Kayla, Caitlin, Aleigha and Scottie Satterfield; great, great grandchildren, Lilah Marie Gazaway, Parker Phibbs, and on the way Paxton Phibbs.

David Lee Lowrance, age 59 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, unexpectedly. David was born in New Boston, Texas on January 14,1964. He was employed at Shaw Industries, had recently retired from 20-plus years as a truck driver and proudly served in the U.S. Army.
David is preceded in death by his parents Marie Lancaster and Don Lowrance and his brothers Tony Lowrance and Davey Lowrance.
David is survived by his wife Kris Lowrance of Summerville. He is also survived by his children Jeff Lowrance, Michael Lowrance, Bridgette (Caleb) Adelstein; Chassity (Jordan) Fowler; his stepchildren Amber(David)Tapp and Michael Hammond; his brothers Donnie (Savanna) Lowrance; Todd (Heidi) Lowrance; his sisters Amanda (Colby) Smith; Mara Rhinehardt; his uncles Dennis Lowrance; Wilbur(Mary) Lancaster; and Sebastain (Kelly) Attaway. David was blessed with 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
David enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially fishing with his father–in–law Don Smith. He was a loving husband, father and loyal friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2p.m. at Rising Fawn Church of God, located at 3425 US Hwy 11 in Rising Fawn, Georgia. All who knew David are welcome to join the family in celebrating his life.

MRS. MARGARET PARKER, age 72, of Campbell Crescent Circle, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday morning, January 30, 2023 in the local nursing home. A native of Trion, Georgia , she was born to the late Robert G. and Elizabeth Jane Prickett Massey on December 2, 1950. Mrs. Parker was a member of the United Christian Fellowship and was owner-operator of Parker Screen Printing.
Surviving are her husband, Larry Parker; daughters and spouses, Beth Hamilton (Shannon) and Amanda Coggins (Josh); grandchildren, Brylee Coggins, Lauren Hamilton (Alex), Peyton Hamilton, and Kristen Hamilton; sister, Mary Treadwell (Barry); special friend and roommate, Ann King; several Nieces and Nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister the late Tammy Boyd and a brother the late Bill Walker.

MRS. MARY Z. JACKSON HIGH, age 95, of the Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 22, 2023, at her home. Mrs. High was born on July 20, 1927 in Chattooga County, the daughter of Brunette Brewer Jackson and Robert Gaines Jackson. She was a 1943 graduate of Lyerly High School. She retired from the Chattooga County Board of Education in 1992, serving as secretary and bookkeeper for 26 years. Mary married Weyman Wright High in 1947; they were married for 67 years. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church; she was currently a member of Summerville First United Methodist Church. Other than Her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Robertine Jackson of McDonough, Georgia.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and William Crouch; three granddaughters and spouses; , Lindsey and Lance Brown, Whitney and Nate Rupp, and Christine Crouch; three great grandsons, Zeke Brown, Andrew Rupp, and Logan Brown.

LEE
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Latricia Pettyjohn Lee, daughter Lori Lee Sanders (Brian), son Kevin Ray Lee (Marina), grandchildren Bryn Lee, Jacob Lee (Sunny), Patric Sanders and Meredith Sanders and great grandson Beckham Ray Lee, brothers Fay Lee and Billy Joe Lee and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2 PM at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 until the service hour with Rev. Robert Pettyjohn and Dr. Gene Greer officiating. Entombment will be at Greenhill Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers are Bryn Lee, Jacob Lee, Patric Sanders, Rob Jacobs, Bradley Lee and Mike Lee.
Honorary pallbearers are Deacons and Friendship class of South Summerville Baptist Church, Arnold and Debbie Kilgo, Jerry and Annette Wright, Ronnie and Joan Dunn, David and Teresa Reynolds, Tommy Grimes, David Owens, and Mark Griffith.

KEENE
Mrs. Keene was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut on August 4, 1926. She was the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Coburn) Knapp. She was one of 10 children and grew up on the Knapp Family homestead on Florida Hill Road. Mrs. Keene attended Ridgefield High School. She is retired from the State of Florida as a teacher's aid for the special needs classes to whom she shared her love, compassion and understanding.
Mrs. Keene is survived by her Sons, Jeffrey Keene and his wife Anna, Joel Keene and his wife Cynthia; her Daughter, Joy Hendricks and her husband Zen. Grandsons, Justin Quillen and his wife Amy, Joe Stephenson and his wife Jackie, Drew Hendricks and his wife Brandi, William Hendricks, John A. Keene and his wife Morghan.; Granddaughters, Shannon Chase and her husband Erick, Samantha Braun and her husband Kevin, Jennifer Keene, Charlotte Merwin and her husband Scott, Darla Cox and her husband Ottis, Jessica Quillen, Carla Wallin and her husband Josh, Jodie Vergara and her husband Albert.; One sister, Marjorie Evans; two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Knapp and Patti Knapp; Great grandchildren, Jesse, Liv, Kaja, Josephine, Timmy, Layla, Skylar, Tessa, Nicole, Alex, Zachary, Freddy, April, Mia, and Andrew.
In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years, Mrs. Keene was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph "Sonny" Knapp, Richard "Bob" Knapp, Edward "Teddy" Knapp, Charles "Mickey" Knapp and four sisters, Florence Hayes, Helen "Tiny" Spadaccino, Dorothy Jacobellis, and Mildred "Plum" Molinaro.
Mrs. Keene, "Franny", was the most amazing mother and grandmother. She put others before herself and helped out in any way she could. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her family. She was such a vital part of our lives it is inconceivable to imagine life without her. She will be missed terribly.
The Keene Family would like to thank the staff of Oakview Rest and Rehab for their loving care and concern for Josephine while she was with them.
Memorial service and interment will be at a later date in Connecticut.
