Rodgers, Mrs. Willie Bell

MRS. WILLIE BELL RODGERS, age 88, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, in the local nursing home. Mrs. Rodgers was born on September 11, 1923, in Ackerman, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Lee Boyce and Clara Reid Bruce. She was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church, a retired sales clerk for Bohannon’s clothing store, and was preceded in death by her husbands’ the late Odell Minor on March 24, 1967 and the late John Grady Rodgers on February 3, 2012. Surviving are Her sisters-Melba Gammill of Louisville, Miss. and Nella Dean Melton of Atlanta; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29th, at 3 P.M. from Graveside in Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. The Family will receive friends from 1 until 2:45 P.M. MISS MARGARET FRANCES OWENS, 92, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday in a Rome nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on February 25, 1920 to the late Parks and Elsie Ward Owens. Miss Owens was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired knitting mill hand and school lunchroom service. She was preceded in death by sisters-Agnes Rosser and Myrtle Presley, niece-Virginia Johnston, nephews-Lamar Rosser & Vernon Rosser, and great nephew-Geoff Rosser. Surviving are niece -Brenda (Windle) Bishop of Kingston; nephew-Winston (Sharon) Pressley of Albany; great niece-Jan (Mark) Sams of Lindale, Lauren Denning of Roswell, Patricia Pressley of Albany; great nephew-Alan (Candie) Rosser of Heflin, AL, Walter Pressley of Birmingham, AL; 1 great great niece; 3 great great nephews; 1 great great great niece; 3 great great great nephews. MRS. DOROTHY ANN “DOT” JOHNSON, age 73, of Dickeyville Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital. She was born in Trion, Georgia on August 28, 1938, a daughter of the late John Wesley Kitchens and Gladys Sitton Kitchens Martin. Mrs. Johnson was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church, a long established hair dresser, and had served on the Chattooga County School Board of Eduaction for 20 plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Tom Johnson and brother, the late Bill Kitchens. Surviving are daughters and spouse-Pamela Guthrie of Sarasota, FL. and Amy & Jonathan Parker of Calhoun; son and spouse-Jimmy & Jill Nicholson of Summerville; step children-Kathi Peck of Knoxville, TN., Sandra Bockley and Randy Johnson of Atlanta; grandchildren-Sarah Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Brandon Garner, Ashley Garner, Alecia Garner, Madison Bockley, Molly Bockley, Alex Johnson, Nicole’ Johnson, and Anna Caroline Parker; great granddaughter-Molly Nicholson; several Nieces and Nephews. A native of Cobb County, Georgia She was born to the late Clayton and Villa Castile Brown on January 12, 1934. Mrs. Henderson was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church, retired from Bigelow-Sanford Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Olin Curtis Henderson, Jr. and a son the late Wayne Henderson. Surviving daughter-Patsy Gottwald of Naples, FL.; son-Donald Henderson of Commerce; sisters-Jean Welch of Kennesaw, Fleasha Gomez of Dawsonville, Peggy Jenkins of Dahlonega, and Bunzie Simpson of Marietta; brother-Kenny Brown of Marietta; twelve Grandchildren, fourteen Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews. MRS. KATHY CARROLL MITCHELL, age 51, of Old Highway #27 –Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday morning, June 14, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late William and Mattie Harris Carroll on January 12, 1961. Mrs. Mitchell was a former employee of Roper Corporation in the assembly department Line #2. Sarafrances Boyd Strickland, 93, of Trion, died June 13, 2012. Memorial Service, after a brief illness, was Saturday (June 15th) in Trion at 11:00 A.M. from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rob Pierce officiating. Sadie was born July 18, 1918, in Augusta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Randolph Bradford Boyd and Lena Godbee Boyd. She graduated from The University of Georgia and was a life time teacher of young children. She was incredibly active in her family, friendships and community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 glorious years A.J. (Strick) Strickland. Survivors include two children Lonnie Strickland and daughter in law Kitty Strickland of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Brad Strickland and daughter in law Barbara Strickland of Dothan, Alabama. She had three grandchildren; Matthew Strickland of Mobile, Alabama; Lena Levendoski and Grandson in law Geoff of Nashville, Tennessee, and Glenn David Strickland of Biloxi, Mississippi. She also had two great grand children, Henry Langston Levendoski and Katharine Parker Levendoski of Nashville, and countless cousins and friends. Sadie as it turns out is hard to describe in a short space or a few lines. She loved many and many loved her. She was the eternal optimist. She was delighted in her friendships, books, bridge, her church and laughter. She enjoyed everything from traveling around the world to fishing on Weiss Lake. Teaching was one of her great loves and anyone who encountered her was more than likely taught something new. She captivated her family and her friends with her charm, her grace and her outlook on life. The legacy that she leaves behind is one of education, understanding heritage, family, friendships and joy. Her very long life was a blessing to us all. MRS. TERRESA D. GREEN, age 63, of Smith Rail Road, Summerville, Georgia , Perennial Springs Community, passed away Friday at Her residence. Born in LaFayette, Georgia on June 27, 1948, She was a daughter of the late Ray H. Shipp. Mrs. Green was a member of Berryton Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband the late Ray Green and son, the late Joey Green. Surviving are son-Marty Green and Cheryl McGuire; granddaughter-Marti Green all of Summerville; mother-Myrtis Swift Fitzpatrick of LaFayette; sister-Anita Johnston of Summerville; goddaughter & great godson, Shelby Williams and Gabriel Dooley of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. MR. BILLY JOE CROY, SR., age 74, of Espy Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, afternoon following an extended illness. A native of Trion, Georgia, He was born to the late Allen Lester and Mary Frances Bailey Croy on June 12, 1937. Mr. Croy was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church , a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Korean Conflict, and was a retired truck driver. He was preceded in death by a son the late Billy Joe Croy, Jr. Surviving are His wife, Betty Jo Croy; sons & daughters-in-law, Randy & Wanda Croy of Trion and James & Lucy Croy of Calhoun; sister-Maggie Fox of Trion; brother-Earl Croy of Summerville; grandchildren-Joseph Croy, Kevin Croy, and Amanda & Justin Brown; great granddaughter-Ella Brown. MRS. CORA I. TUCKER, age 88, of the Alpine Community, Menlo, Georgia passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, afternoon at Her home. She was born in Trion, Georgia February 13, 1924, daughter of the late W.H. and Dora Rape Spraggins. She was a lifetime member of the Alpine Community Church graduating from Menlo High School in 1942, where she played on the girls basketball team. She was a retiree of the sample department of Best Mfg. Company. Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy Lesley Tucker; a grandson, Brian Avery Tucker; sisters, Ruth Della Monica, Charlsie Mae (Charlie) Miller, Louise (Shug) Martin, Beatrice (Pete) Hall; brothers, Julius (Duke) Spraggins, D.W. (Bawdy) Spraggins, Andrew (Snowball) Spraggins, and D.F. (Sike) Spraggins. 

 Surviving are sons & daughters-in-law-Dennis & Jeannie Tucker and Ralph & Martha Tucker all of Menlo; grandsons-Shane Tucker, Jason & Rebecca Tucker all of Menlo; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

A Chattooga County native, She was born to the late William Taylor and Birdie Cox Scruggs on May 5, 1921. Mrs. Rhinehart was a Homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Walter “Dub” Rhinehart, on April 22, 1992, and two daughters-the late Beverly Ann Rhinehart and Glenda Sue Rhinehart. Surviving are brother & sister-in-law-James N. and Effie Scruggs; niece-Peggy Marie Busby; nephew-James N. A Trion, Georgia native, Mrs. Guinn was born to the late Katie Baggett on April 30, 1931. She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church and was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation spinning department. Mrs. Guinn was preceded in death by her daughter, the late Deborah Ann Gill, a grandson, the late Casey Ray Gill, and a brother, the late Jimmy Baggett. Surviving are Her husband, Edward Eugene Guinn; son & daughter-in-law, Danny & Beverly Guinn; grandchildren, Chris & Carolyn Gill, Stacy & Anjy Gill, Brian & Jerrilynn Gill, Jeremy Guinn, Kelia & Jim Purcell, and Danny & Nicole Guinn; eleven Great Grandchildren, two Great Great Grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. MRS. BETTY WILSON BROWN, age 71, of Rocky Hollow Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday evening, April 15, 2012, in a Rome hospital. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Clyde and Gussie Woody Hollingsworth on July 8, 1940. Mrs. Brown was retired from the spinning department of Carron Mills in LaFayette, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Jeff R. Brown. Surviving are children-Judy Pruitt of Dalton, Terry Wilson of Lyerly, Wayne Wilson of Trion, Cathy McCary of Summerville, and Larry Wilson of Menlo; sisters-Virginia Ragland of LaFayette, Ann Hampton of Cloudland, and Syble Ward of LaFayette; brother-G. MR. JAMES D. BAKER, age 78, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, in a Rome hospital. A native of Kingston, Georgia He was born to the late Gordon and Maggie Wright Baker on November 30, 1933. Mr. Baker served in the U. S. Army and was retired Quality Inspector from Ford Motor Company. He was preceded in death by a sister the late Edna Puryear and a brother the late Charles Baker.  
Surviving are son-Kevin Baker of Summerville; grandchildren-Blake Baker, Hailey Baker, and Kyle Baker; sister-Janie Nell Baker of Albany, Georgia; care givers-Martha and Jerry Strickland of Summerville. Mr. Jennings was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 2, 1960, a son of Hamilton Ralls and Billie Jean Burns Jennings of Trion, Georgia, who survive. Surviving are daughter-Holly Jennings of Mt. Vernon, KY; sons-Jesse Dylan Jennings and Matthew Ralls Jennings both of Summerville; Parents; sister-Luci Jennings of Trion; brother-Russ Jennings of Rome. Mrs. Bryant was Baptist by Faith, retired from Defenders Company, and was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Bryant, son, William Bryant, and daughter, Diane Bryant. MRS. MARIE SPEER, age 57, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a Rome hospital following an extended illness. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Doyle and Evelyn Boatman Yarbrough, on November 30, 1954. Marie was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, retired from Chattooga County D.F.C.S., and was preceded in death by her husband the late Steve Speer. Surviving are daughters & spouse, Lindsey Speer & Stacy Henderson of Summerville and Brittney (Colter) Sanford of Lyerly; grandchildren-Colton Daniel Sanford, Carlie Danielle Sanford, and Cason Bentley Sanford; mother-in-law-Martha Sue Speer of Summerville; sisters & spouses, Christine (Len) Chumbler of Gaylesville, AL. and Janice (Jimmy) Brown of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers & spouses, Duane (Debbie) Yarbrough of Lyerly and Byron (Kay) Yarbrough of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Don Knowles officiating, interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mike Alverson. John Sterner, Robert Floyd, Harold Gordon, Ronnie Winters, and Jason Winters; Honorary Pallbearers all friends. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Saturday from 1 until hour of service.
