MONEY

MRS. DORIS RUTH MONEY, age 80, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Wednesday evening September 27, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Born in Summerville, Georgia on December 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Edith Sams Sumner. Mrs. Money graduated in 1961 from the former Menlo High School, worked for Roper Corporation for 20 years, and together with her husband and son, owned and operated Travis Money Antiques and Auction Company, in Summerville, Georgia. She was Methodist by Faith; in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Travis Earl Money and daughter, the late Renee Money.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Nicole Money; grandchildren, Austin Money and Tatum Money; sister, Peggy Herod; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive,

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel with the Honorable John Dennis officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers, Danny Parrish, Derrick Parrish, Barry Money, Richard Sumner, Rocky Hatfield, and Tim Hayes; Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the 1961 graduating Class of Menlo High School. MR. CHARLES E. BROWN, SR., age 67, of Trenton, Georgia formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Monday morning, September 25, 2023, at His residence. Mr. Brown was born in Summerville, Georgia to the late J. T. and Leola Hill Brown on May 9, 1956. For several years, he worked for Bryant and Sons Lumber and served in the U.S. Army for a short time. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by a son, the late Joe Brown.

Surviving are son, C. J. Brown, Jr.; sisters, Judy (Leonard) Tatum,  Peggy (Tommy) Rosson; brother, Ricky (Sandra) Brown; granddaughter, Sarah Brown; great grandson, Elijah Brown; several Nieces and Nephews.

A celebration of Life, will be held at a later date.

CATHERINE JEAN WILSON, age 59, of Old Hix Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly at her residence.  She was born in Rome, Georgia on January 16, 1964 to the late Clifford and Ava Morton Mountain.  Ms. Wilson attended the Four Mile Baptist Church and was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother the late Phillip Mountain.

Surviving are daughter, Brittany Hewitt; sons, Brandon Wilson and Brian Wilson; grandchildren, Catie Beth Hewitt and Maddux Hewitt; Jerry Wilson also survives.

Memorial funeral service will be held Friday, September 29th, at 1:00 P.M. from the Four Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Smith officiating, inurnment in Summerville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. until 1 P.M. at the Church.

EDGEWORTH

MR. JOHNNY AMOS EDGEWORTH, age 59, of Dry Valley Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon in a Rome hospital. A native Chattooga Countian, He was born to the late Kelley Amos Edgeworth and Betty Ann Siffles Edgeworth (who survives), on December 17, 1963. Prior to retirement, Johnny was employed by the Gyron Car Wash for 30 years. In addition to His Father, was preceded in death by a sister, the late Shirley Edgeworth.

Surviving are His, Mother, Betty Ann Edgeworth; nephew, Joseph Edgeworth; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 18th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. MRS. BETTY MAYES MOORE, age 89, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, September 15, 2023, in the local nursing home. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, was born to the late Cecil and Lucy Lee Talton Mayes, on March 5, 1934. Mrs. Moore was a member of Howard Chapel Baptist Church, was retired from Lockheed Corporation security department, and in addition to Parents was preceded in death by a sister, the late Miriam Powers.

Surviving are Her husband, James Thomas Moore; son, Jerry Haney; nieces, Brenda Paladino and Debbie Verner; Four Grandchildren also survive,

MRS. CHERYL GREEN, age 61, of Smith Rail Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness.  A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born to the late Robert and Jeanette Dollar Wood on June 19, 1962.  For many years Cheryl worked in the health care field, at Chattooga County Hospital and Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, as a X-ray and Laboratory Technician and Emergency Medical Technician.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, the late Marty Ray Green and brother, the late Tony Wood.

Surviving are daughter, Erica and Brandon Fountain; son, Heath and Savannah McGuire; stepdaughter, Marti Green; brother, Roger and Kerry Wood; granddaughters, Ansley Ratliff, Isabella McGuire, Olivia McGuire, Gabbie McGuire, and Annie Fountain; several Nieces and Nephews.

WEAVER

MS. DEBBIE DEAN WEAVER, age 63, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in a Rome Hospital. She was born in Summerville, Georgia to the late Rev. W. H. Dean and Helen Garmany Dean Reynolds, on June 5, 1960. Debbie was a member of the Chattooga High School class of 1978, a member of Chapel Hill Full Gospel Church, was retired from the Weave Shop of Mount Vernon Mills and loved her Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Betty Dean Norton, brothers, Jerry Dean and Sonny Dean, and stepfather Harley Reynolds.

Surviving are daughter, Tracie (Shane) Smith; son, Kevin (Amanda) Bailey; grandchildren, Bailey Rowlls (Hunter Teems) and Isabella Bailey; sister, Cecelia (Cecil) Laney; several Nieces and Nephews; special friend, Benny Humphreys.

MR. SAMMY LEON WHITE, age 64, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday afternoon. A native of Chattooga County, He was born to the late Aubrey and Martha Jean Tidmore White on October 27, 1957. Mr. White was a heavy equipment operator. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Nora Jean Ledford White on September 11, 1990.

Surviving are sons, Jeffery (Todd) White and Michael White; grandchildren, Daisy White, Shay White, Austin White, Bryce Blackmon, Kaitlyn Bowman, Kristin Copenhaver; great-grandchildren, Shamieyan Smith, Leighton Bowman, Rosalee Bowman, Depharrah Smith, and Braxton Copenhaver.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Harold Helton officiating. The Family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

 MRS. DORIS FAYE TAPP, age 76, of Cedar Bluff Alabama passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Trion, Georgia April 13, 1947, a daughter of the late Charlie Marvin and Irene Mae Ellison Caldwell. Mrs. Tapp attended West Berryton Faith Temple. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny W. Tapp; sisters, Barbara Hartline, Linda Jones, Pamela Caldwell and brothers, Charles Caldwell and Dewayne Caldwell.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Hall and Faye (Ron) DeBerry; sister, Rachel Kilgore; brothers, Jerry Caldwell and Ray Caldwell; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

MR. JOHN FRANK KELLETT, JR., age 71 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023. He was born August 20, 1951, son of the late John Frank Kellett, Sr. and Myra Geraldine Fletcher Kellett. Mr. Kellett was a U. S. Army Veteran of Viet Nam, Desert Storm, 911 and was retired from Hayes State Prison. Mr. Kellett attended Mount Bethel Baptist Church.

MRS. LUDAIN PRUITT GILREATH, age 83 of Teloga Community passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, in a Chattanooga Hospital. Mrs. Gilreath was born, September 24, 1939, in Fort Payne, Alabama to the late General Filmore Pruitt and Gladys Cavin Pruitt. She was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church and was retired from Roper Corporation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Deforrest Gilreath, brothers, General Leon Pruitt, Hubert “Sam” Pruitt, and sister, Eloise Pruitt Magnusson.

Surviving are, daughters, Becky (Donnie) Gerrin and Sherri (Richard) Selby; sons, Calvin (Rachel) Gilreath and Jerry Gilreath; granddaughters, Lisa Gilreath, Lacey Gilreath, Michelle Pollard Causey, Emily (Michael) Kobito, and Grace Gilreath; grandson, Justin Pollard (Dana); great grandchildren, Ansley Causey, Caden Causey, Brooklyn Causey, and Mack Pollard; great great grandchild, Maisley Causey; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

MCCONNELL

 MR. GARY WALLACE MCCONNELL, age 78, a lifelong resident of Chattooga County, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023, in a Rome Hospital.  He was the son of the late John Frank McConnell and Margueritt Rea McConnell.  Gary started his career in law enforcement working with his father, then Sheriff of Chattooga County.  At the age of 21, while attending Mississippi State University, Gary’s Father died while serving as Sheriff and Gary took over the Sheriff’s position, he was the youngest sheriff in Georgia history.  He was Sheriff of Chattooga County for 20 years and in 1991 was appointed Head of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, GEMA, and was Head of the Georgia Olympic Law Enforcement Command. After retirement, he went into private emergency management, where he helped other states with their emergency management agencies and emergencies.

Surviving are His wife, Lyndell Diane McConnell; daughter and companion, Rebecca Rea and Fox Carrasquillo; and grandson, Levi Cobb.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13th, at 3:00 p.m.. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. J. Wesley Privett and Rev. Surviving are daughter, Jennifer Medlin (Grady); brothers, Billy Wood (Tracy and David Wood; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

MS. WENDY ANN SIFFLES, age 56, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, in a Rome hospital. She was born in Oneonta, Alabama on December 27, 1966 to the late Mary Alice Siffles and Donald Jack Siffles, Sr. who survives. Ms. Siffles was a homemaker. In addition to Her Mother, she was preceded in death by a son, the late Tony Dewayne Eller.

MR. JOHNNY WAYNE LINDSEY, age 72 of Summerville, Georgia passed away, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at his residence. Mr. Lindsey was born in Rome, Georgia, November 15, 1950, son of the late Elbert and Ruth Abrams Lindsey. Johnny served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was retired from Roper Corporation as a Forklift Operator and a member of New Generation Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Lindsey; sons, Mark Lindsey and David Lindsey; brother, Jimmy Lindsey; grandchildren, Brandon Lindsey, Brianna Lindsey, Claire Lindsey and Chasity Fletcher; 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

HURLEY


Mrs. Marceline Hurley, age 94, of Alcoa, Tennessee, formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning, June 28, 2023, in a Maryville, Tennessee Hospital.  She was born April 15, 1929, in Summerville, Georgia, daughter of the late Marion and Lucille Doster Mobbs.  She along with her husband Gene owned and operated the Hurley’s Grocery Stores in Summerville, Trion, and Fort Payne, Alabama, for many years.  Mrs. Hurley was the oldest member of the South Summerville Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Brown.

Surviving are her husband, Gene Hurley; daughters, Sherry Reeves and Cecelia Berry and son, David Hurley; grandchildren, Sean Reeves, Tisha Cox, Carrie Daniels, Marta Bridges; 3 great grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 3 p.m. from the South Summerville Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Mahan and Dr. Gene Greer officiating, interment in the Summerville Cemetery. NICHOLSON


MR. RONALD (RON) NICHOLSON, age 80, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 31, 1943, He was a son of the late Robert and Shirley Hickman Nicholson. He was graduated from Trion High School in 1961, where He was the first band Drum Major for the Trion High Band. After graduation, He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and attended the Naval Conservatory of Music in Washington, D.C. After successfully completing His music studies was selected for the Admiral’s Tours in Central and South America. Due to the Cuban Missile crisis He was temporarily assigned to man the USS Canaberra, off the coast of Miami, 90 miles from Cuba. After being honorably discharged, Ron returned to Rome, Georgia, where he was the co-founder of The Gospel Brass. They traveled extensively, headlining with many famous gospel groups. After making many albums, they were regularly on Pat Robertson’s PTL 700 Club. He received a standing ovation, at the Grand Ole Opry, for His saxophone solo of How Great Thou Art. Most of Ron’s adult life was spent as a successful Grand Piano salesman for Yamaha Piano of California. He was well known in the industry, winning many awards, including trips to Italy, Hong Kong, China, New York, and California. After 43 years, Ron retired, in 2016, moving from Sarasota, Fl. to Summerville, Ga., with his wife, Jimmie Ann. He was Methodist by Faith and deeply loved his wife, children, and Family. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Victoria Lynn Tudor, grandparents, Henry & Eulalee Hickman, and brother-in-law, Bill Pierce.

Surviving are His wife, Jimmie Ann Bennett Nicholson; daughter, Angie R. Belsoe; sons, Ronald Adam Nicholson and Ronald Allen (Rusty) Nicholson, Jr.; sisters & brother-in-law, Patricia Nicholson Pierce and Frances Nicholson Pence (Frank); many Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

Active Pallbearers are John Riley, Jimmy Riley, David Pence, Bob Wesson, Britt Carpenter, and Cody Young; Honorary Pallbearer, Nickolas Young. BATTLES


Mr. Gary Eugene Battles, age 61 of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on April, 10, 1962, a son of the late Claude and Martha Ann Fuller Battles. Mr. Battles was employed with Patty Paving. He was preceded in death by a sister, the late Brenda Battles and brother, Jerry Battles.

Surviving are his companion, Jacqueline Newsome; step daughter, Shelly Maxey; brothers, Earl Battles, Terry Battles, Carlton Battles, and Bob Battles; sisters, Tina Battles, Doris Battles and Dorothy Battles; several Nieces and Nephews.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24th, from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Howell officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Saturday from 10 until 11 A.M.
