She was born on February 16, 1972 to Richard and Sammye Smallan Brock who survive. She was preceded in death by Grandparents Cecil Brock, H. M. Smallan and Louise Smallan. Mrs. Tucker was a member of Trion First Baptist Church, a clinical nurse and a lifetime member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Rodgers was born on September 11, 1923, in Ackerman, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Lee Boyce and Clara Reid Bruce. She was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church, a retired sales clerk for Bohannon’s clothing store, and was preceded in death by her husbands’ the late Odell Minor on March 24, 1967 and the late John Grady Rodgers on February 3, 2012. Surviving are Her sisters-Melba Gammill of Louisville, Miss. and Nella Dean Melton of Atlanta; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Sarafrances Boyd Strickland, 93, of Trion, died June 13, 2012. Memorial Service, after a brief illness, was Saturday (June 15th) in Trion at 11:00 A.M. from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rob Pierce officiating. Sadie was born July 18, 1918, in Augusta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Randolph Bradford Boyd and Lena Godbee Boyd. She graduated from The University of Georgia and was a life time teacher of young children. She was incredibly active in her family, friendships and community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 glorious years A.J. (Strick) Strickland. Survivors include two children Lonnie Strickland and daughter in law Kitty Strickland of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Brad Strickland and daughter in law Barbara Strickland of Dothan, Alabama. She had three grandchildren; Matthew Strickland of Mobile, Alabama; Lena Levendoski and Grandson in law Geoff of Nashville, Tennessee, and Glenn David Strickland of Biloxi, Mississippi. She also had two great grand children, Henry Langston Levendoski and Katharine Parker Levendoski of Nashville, and countless cousins and friends. Sadie as it turns out is hard to describe in a short space or a few lines. She loved many and many loved her. She was the eternal optimist. She was delighted in her friendships, books, bridge, her church and laughter. She enjoyed everything from traveling around the world to fishing on Weiss Lake. Teaching was one of her great loves and anyone who encountered her was more than likely taught something new. She captivated her family and her friends with her charm, her grace and her outlook on life. The legacy that she leaves behind is one of education, understanding heritage, family, friendships and joy. Her very long life was a blessing to us all. She was born in Trion, Georgia February 13, 1924, daughter of the late W.H. and Dora Rape Spraggins. She was a lifetime member of the Alpine Community Church graduating from Menlo High School in 1942, where she played on the girls basketball team. She was a retiree of the sample department of Best Mfg. Company. Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy Lesley Tucker; a grandson, Brian Avery Tucker; sisters, Ruth Della Monica, Charlsie Mae (Charlie) Miller, Louise (Shug) Martin, Beatrice (Pete) Hall; brothers, Julius (Duke) Spraggins, D.W. MRS. BETTY WILSON BROWN, age 71, of Rocky Hollow Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday evening, April 15, 2012, in a Rome hospital. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Clyde and Gussie Woody Hollingsworth on July 8, 1940. Mrs. Brown was retired from the spinning department of Carron Mills in LaFayette, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Jeff R. Brown. MR. JAMES D. BAKER, age 78, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, in a Rome hospital. A native of Kingston, Georgia He was born to the late Gordon and Maggie Wright Baker on November 30, 1933. Mr. Baker served in the U. S. Army and was retired Quality Inspector from Ford Motor Company. He was preceded in death by a sister the late Edna Puryear and a brother the late Charles Baker.

MR. DON HAMILTON JENNINGS, age 51, of Richmond Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Richmond. Mr. Jennings was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 2, 1960, a son of Hamilton Ralls and Billie Jean Burns Jennings of Trion, Georgia, who survive. MRS. IRENE HUNTER BRYANT, age 77, of Marvin Avenue-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital. Born in Copperhill, Tennessee, She was a daughter of the late Lester C. and Lena Hunter Ledford. Mrs. Bryant was Baptist by Faith, retired from Defenders Company, and was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Bryant, son, William Bryant, and daughter, Diane Bryant. MR. JOHN GRADY RODGERS, age 85, of Trion, Ga. Passed away Friday afternoon in the local Nursing Home. Mr. Rodgers was born in Broometown, Alabama March 17, 1926, a son of the late John Newton and Verdie Beatrice Gardner Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was a Member and Deacon of Central Avenue Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy, and a retired self-employed Carpenter. MRS. STELLA MAE THOMAS, age 88, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Wednesday evening in a Rome hospital. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late William P. and Zora Mae King Oliver on September 5, 1923. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was retired from sewing department of Best Mfg., and was preceded in death by her husband the late Rev. Hugh C. Thomas, a daughter the late Sandra Annette Thomas, and a number of Siblings. MR. PAUL E. KING, SR., 87, passed away the evening of January 30, 2012 after a short illness. He was married to Betty Hopkins King for 51 years who passed away in 2004. They are the parents of three children, Karen King Driskell of Alpharetta, Georgia, Jill King Riggs of Longwood, Florida, and Paul E. King, Jr. of Johns Creek, Georgia; they have five grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth King Abney of Rome also survive. Mr. King was a native of Menlo, Georgia. He came from humble beginnings being brought up by his mother after his father passed away when he was five years old. He attended North Georgia Military College and served in the Air Force as a Lieutenant during World War II. After returning home from Europe, he graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens, and began a long career in the life insurance industry in Atlanta. Later, his career took him to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he rose to the rank of President of Minister’s Life Insurance Marketing Group. In 1976 he relocated to Orlando, Florida with his family to start his own insurance agency, which he successfully ran for the balance of his career. Mr. King was a member of the Wekiva Presbyterian Church in Longwood, Florida for many years. MRS. ERNESTINE V. BLEDSOE, age 91, of Summerville, Georgia, formerly of Pinehurst, Georgia passed away Thursday, January19, 2012, in Summerville. A native of Vienna, Georgia, She was born to the late Ernest L. and Bertie Walden Christmas on January 29, 1920. Before retirement Mrs. Bledsoe was City Clerk for the City of Pinehurst, Georgia and was a member of the Pinehurst Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Thomas J. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Gordon Lee Bridges, and a son, the late Bobby Leon Bridges. Mrs. Bridges was Baptist by faith and was a retired Delta Airlines Accountant. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Marines during Korea, and was a retired attorney-at-law. MRS. JIMMIE FRANCES FOWLER, age 84, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning (August 31, 2011) in the local nursing home. A Daughter of the late Frank and Della Wofford Wooten, she was born July 11, 1927 in Chattooga County. Mrs. Fowler was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband the late Charlie Lee Fowler.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Lee & Martha Fowler of Summerville. Grandchildren- Karen Fowler Adams, Keitha Fowler Zuniga and Tim. Brother and sister-in-law Alfred & Virginia Wooten of Tacoma, WA; Great Grandchildren- Kendal Zuniga and Lucas Adams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Sam Bible, age 88, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away August 30, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Summerville, only 3 weeks away from his 89th birthday. Mr. Bible was born in Estill Springs, Tennessee, in 1922 to George C. Bible and Eliza Martin Bible. His spent his early life in Winchester, Tennessee, where he attended school, was king of the Crimson Clover Festival, and owned a farm and feed store. He met his wife Willie Swafford Bible in Winchester, where she was a home extension agent.

Mr. Bible and his late brother, George W. Bible, owned and operated Mountain Cove Farms in Kensington, Georgia for many years. After selling the farm, Mr. Bible worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock Life, and was also a builder and an inventor. He was very active in the Summerville First United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He was also active in the local Chattooga County Democratic Party.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Kathy Bible Mullen and Peter Mullen of Tallahassee, Florida and grandson Dr. Matthew Mullen of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are sister-in-law Mary Hembree of Knoxville, Tennessee, cousins Martha Bible Wade of The Villages, Florida and Margaret Montgomery Mefford of Brentwood, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bible was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, George W. Bible, and his wife, Willie S. Bible.

Mrs. Grigsby was a Charter member of Wayside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and led singing. She was a Summerville High School Graduate where she played basketball; was preceded in death by her husband the late Fay Grigsby in 1978, brothers-David and Pete Brown, sisters-Inez Bramlett and Frances Perrin, and a grandson-Jason Howell.

DR. JACK REEVES MEACHAM, age 78, prominent Summerville, Georgia physician passed away Wednesday (August 17, 2011) in a Rome hospital. Born in Roanoke, Alabama on March 29, 1933, He was a son of the late William Curtis and Mattie Lou Reeves Meacham. A long-standing member of Summerville First Baptist Church, He served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. Dr. Meacham enjoyed music, singing, reading, teaching, Bible study, sang in quartet, and in Acapella Choir in college. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1950, earning his BS degree in Biology from Carson-Newman College and taught at Trion High School in 1956., then entered the Medical College of Georgia in 1958 and earned his M.D. in 1962, interning at Floyd County Hospital. From 1963 til 1968 was in General Practice in Chatsworth, Georgia, and 1968 until 2001 Family Practice in Summerville. Dr. Meacham was PFC in the U.S. Army during Korea serving as medical corpsman and x-ray technician. In 1954 married Lillie Jane Stephenson who preceded Him in death in 2000. The Family publicly thanks North Georgia Home Health, Arbutus Personal Care Home, ICU & CCU nurses in Redmond M.C., Specialty Hospital Personnel, and all the wonderful physicians and medical staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd Medical Center, and the Specialty Hospital.

A Missouri native She was born on January 28, 1923 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Blankenship Oelsen. Mrs. Dickerson was owner/operator of a grocery store and restaurant; had resided in Arkansas and Chicago, Illinois moving to Chattooga County, Georgia a few years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Bill J. Dickerson in 1985.

She was preceded in death by her husband the late Harold Fred Tucker, Sr. on December 4, 2003, and siblings Mary Jo Treadaway, Jackie Mills, Harman Lowry, and Floyd Lowry.

H. Dean and the late Rev. Harley Reynolds; she was also predeceased by children-Sonny Dean, Jerry Dean, and Betty Norton, and siblings-Frances Maxey, Mattie Ruth Hickey, and Richard Garmany.

MRS. JOYCE ELAINE JACKSON, age 79, of Harrisburg Road - Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 1st, 2011, at her home. She was born in Denver, Colorado on April 3rd, 1932, a daughter of the late Emile T. and Thelma Madison Gourdin. Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a local artist and craft person.

MR. EDWARD LEE TUDOR, age 66, of Dry Creek Road-Summerville, Georgia was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24, 2011. Born on December 26, 1944 He was a son of the late E. A. and Frances Cathleen Townsell Tudor. Mr. Tudor served in the United States Army earning the rank of SP4 as an MP, serving in Vietnam 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo) in Huntsville, AL. Before retirement Mr. Tudor was plant manager at Riyadi, Saudi Arabia for 7 years, and most recently worked with Mt. Vernon Mills in the dyeing department.

Duvall and Eugene Duvall, and sisters Bonnie Woods and Elene King. Mrs. Warren was a member of Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from Barwick Mills.

MRS. WINIFRED MILLER DOSTER, age 100, of Summerville, Georgia died Friday, June 3, 2011, at Oak View Nursing Center in Summerville. Winifred was born April 7, 1911, in Ellijah, Georgia, to Margaret Elizabeth Holt (1872-1960) and Wesley Jones Miller (1865-1946). She was a 1936 graduate from the University of Georgia in Home Economics. She worked several years as a Home Economics teacher, then for the Farmers Home Administration until she married George Edward Doster (1900-1985) in 1946. She returned to work for the Department of Family and Children’s Services until retirement in 1965 at age 65.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Alice Parker, Summerville; two sons, George Doster, Jr., Kentucky, and Jim Doster, Carrollton, Georgia; five grandchildren-David Doster, Angie Doster, Jacob Doster, Desmond Parker, and Andrew Parker two great grandchildren-Tyler Doster and Drake Doster.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 5th, from Horizon Baptist Fellowship with the Reverend Jimmy Bryant and Doctor Jerry Mahan officiating, interment in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mark Gordon, Clint Hunter, Frank Ward, Benji Price, Greg Shaw, Todd Taylor. Visitation will be Saturday 5 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home, Mrs. Doster will also be in state at the Church, Sunday from 3 until 4 P.M.

MRS. JIMMIE DUKE JONES, age 72, of Lyerly, GA passed away Wednesday evening,(June 1, 2011), at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Jones was born July 9, 1938 in Trion, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clifford and Mary John Ellenburg Fowler. She was retired from Georgia Rug Mill Data Precessing and was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Her husband, Max Roland Jones, preceded her in death January 8, 2005.

Survivors include a Daughter and Son-in-law, Lynn and Mike Stull; Son and Daughter-in-law, Tony and Denise Jones; Grandchildren, Morgan Stull, Summer Jones and Rose Jones all of Lyerly.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 P.M. from Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Gillespie and Rev. Bill Adams officiating, interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Robert Beach, Kyle Kellett, Ronnie Winters, James Durham, Duane Yarbrough, Randy Elrod, Sam Hudsputh and Jason Winters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joyce McGraw, Bobbie Jean Ball, Naomi Lowery, Sue Spivey and Members of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 P. MR. LARRY JUNIOR GENTRY, age 61, of Gaylesville, Alabama formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the residence. Born in Summerville, Georgia on February 1, 1950 He was a son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Cochran Gentry. Mr. Gentry was retired from the Needling Department of Mohawk Mills.

Surviving are daughter-Susie Shaw of Lyerly; son-Wayne Gentry of Summerville; sister-Dorothy Basham of Nashville, TN., Elaine Webb of Boise, Idaho, & Diane Dotson of Summerville; brother-J. B. Gentry & Douglas Gentry of Gaylesville, AL.; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday (June 3rd) at 1:00 P.M. from the West Summerville Baptist Church, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. MRS. GUSSIE M. STANSELL, age 84, of Trion, Georgia, Teloga Community, passed away Wednesday morning at her residence. Born on March 5, 1927 in Walker County, She was a Daughter of the late N. J. Pettyjohn, Sr. and Julia Jones Pettyjohn. Mrs. Stansell was a member of Shattuck Blvd. Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her husband the late John Wesley Stansell.

Surviving are daughters and husbands-Debbie & Gene Smith and Judy & John Jenkins all of Teloga; son and wife-Randall & Dreama Spears of Dalton; brother-Nichols J. Pettyjohn, Jr. of Teloga; grandchildren-Missy Hogan, Crissy Geiger both of LaFayette and Randy Spears of Menlo; great grandchildren-Tyler Spears, Kaylan Hogan, and Julia Hogan; several Nieces and Nephews.
